FF was acting normally all day, including YouTube. I viewed some instructional videos, and they played fine. Then in the evening, I went to YouTube, and FF started crashing constantly. Sometimes a video would play for a few seconds before crashing, other times FF would crash as soon as I clicked on something. I changed absolutely nothing, no settings, nothing since when it was working fine earlier in the day. Sometimes it crashes even when I'm not playing any video. I assume that some video on the site I'm on probably started automatically (ads).

I've been looking through tons of questions, threads, etc. The only thing I can find is that it's probably related to Flash. I've uninstalled it (v17), reinstalled v18, hardware acceleration is off, Windows updated, etc. I can't find anything else to try.

Below are the crash reports. There's only four because usually when FF crashes I usually don't take the time to submit the report, so these are all from today:

bp-21329c08-0ba9-4ded-b9bf-bb19e2150612 bp-1dd0fd8d-d04b-48d8-8d17-3c1a32150612 bp-141d79d4-8e59-4d81-96e0-3dd252150612 bp-c7dc4c7f-c7eb-46a9-87a7-e8b222150612

One of the crash reports noted this: Related Bugs

723133 VERIFIED FIXED Crash Report [@ PluginWndProcInternal ] stack overflow from infinite recursion

But I can't figure out what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

I downloaded the Ad-Aware Security toolbar about a year ago. Firefox accepted it. It showed. And it functioned, correctly. Then, suddenly, it disappeared. It did not show on my homepage or any page. It disappeared also from the list of extensions.

I uninstalled it and re-loaded it. Firefox accepted it. But again it did not show, though Firefox said it showed. I repeated the process twice more. Still the same problem recurred.

Then I uninstalled Ad-Aware itself and the Ad-Aware toolbar and reloaded a newer version and also loaded the Ad-Aware toolbar again. And again Firefox accepted the toolbar and said it was active, but the toolbar did not show. Where I say Firefox said the toolbar was active or that Firefox said it showed, I mean this: When I right-click on the toolbar area at the top of my home page or any page, I see Ad-Aware toolbar checked, just as I see checked my AVG safe search toolbar. The AVG toolbars actually shows as a working toolbar. The Ad-Aware does not show.

This is the second time I have reported this problem. Firefox did not respond the first time.

I have upgraded a few times recently to 37 and now to 39 but the firefox homepage search bar has lost all of my history and more importantl, I used to be able to double-click on it to bring up a list of recent searches. Oh yeah, and the font has been changed and is now too big :(

Is there anything I can do to import / get back my list of old searches and change the other bits? If not I will be stuck on 32 / 33 for ever!

Cheers, Jason.

We are building a web based application where you can download different kinds of files, e.g. PDF and DOCX files. Direct links are provided to these.

In Chrome, IE, Opera - all of the files download as expected (or open up if there is a specific setting for that type of file). Not so with Firefox.

Upon clicking, a dialogue opens and asks if the file should be downloaded or opened. In this dialoge, no file extension is displayed. Opening the file works both for docx and pdf with MS word and Acrobat Reader installed. Fine.

But downloading is strange: the file is downloaded, but in case of the PDF, the file extension is cut off (missing completely!). In case of the docx file, firefox downloads the file with a .doc extension! If I manually correct the extensions, all is OK. Why does Firefox mess around with the file extensions of downloaded files? Can it be turned off or fixed without losing compatibility to other browsers? Using Win7 and ffx 38.0.5

Hello,

Every time I reinstalled Windows, downloaded and installed Firefox, I would sign in with my email and password and the sync would start and be done quite fast.

I did that just now with a fresh install of Win 8.1 a legal copy, downloaded and installed Firefox, signed in, but nothing is synced from my old data, only the new ones I created today.

What happened with all of my browsing history data which always synced before?

Please help!

Good morning,

In Iceweasel 38.01 I cannot permanently deactivate the extensions toolbar. There is not a single button on it and the option from the context-menu operates normally. But the toolbar reappears each time upon starting up the browser. I cannot locate a second configuration- or customization option, nor the pertinent help-text, if there is one, which allowed me to permanently get rid of the useless toolbar.

Thank you for any hints.

After installing version 39.0, FF locks up once I open one or more tabs. Then it no longer responds although sometimes it takes it a couple of minutes to respond. After about 4 of this little mishaps, it produces the script error above. Then, goes into permanent lock mode of not responding. I've also noticed that when entering anything into an editor, such as this one, for every 6-10 characters entered, it pauses for about 3 minutes before responding with what was typed. Like it has a buffering issue. I don't get this in Chrome or any other browser and never got it in prior versions of FF. Eventually, it doesn't respond at all and totally locks up.

The only work around I've noticed which works is to open Win 8.1 Task Manager and delete FF from the open programs. Then I rerun FF and, fortunately, all the tabs come back including the editor forms with the content intact. Wow, that's quite dangerous as their is no guarantee that 100% recovery will ever take place.

Below is the content of the Script which keeps crashing as well - following the script is some debugging info:

E10s is enabled, but I get the same results in a "New non-e10s" window, or by starting with a new clean profile.

I have tried with Firefox 39 and it works fine. Can anyone else confirm the problem?

Thanks.

But when I'm done using the device, I have to sign out of that device, and I can't find an option to do that. When I sign out of sync, it doesn't remove my bookmarks, passwords, or anything. I have to go and delete the bookmarks manually and clear search history. Which is VERY inconvenient. I do have a master password, but that only held with passwords, not with history or bookmarks. This is very troubling. I should be able to sign out of that device and have all my information removed. That's what Google Chrome offers and you don't! Where's the unlink device option?

A recent update has broken javascript sites which try to use localStorage or sessionStorage. I like to configure most sites to only keep cookies until the end of the session and sometimes want to grant sites the ability to persist cookies. To do this, I set "ask me every time" as the only change on the privacy tab of options. Changing this one setting to "they expire" or "I close Firefox" lets these web sites work properly. I get no prompts asking if I want to allow local storage.
