I recently updated Firefox (I don't know the update number, but for reference, the date is July 3rd 2015) and now, whenever I open a new tab and type in the address bar to go to a website, it doesn't register when I hit enter. Autofill seems to be disabled, too. Firefox also seems to not respond more frequently than usual. (My computer is slow and around 5 years old so I am used to Firefox not responding to me every now and then.)
I've already tried system restore, but it turns out my system was out of restore points. Restarting didn't help, either. I am able to navigate the web through links, and I currently have a Google tab open to get to the websites I need rather than using the address bar, but this is worrying me. Is it something with the Firefox update that didn't sit right with my computer, or could I have gotten a virus of some kind?
There is a known bug with Firefox affecting some people who have a certain type of corruption of a of a database file.
This causes errors that result in the address bar not working.
For such people the first step is to try to use the addon places maintenance to repair the database.
If that fails the file places.sqlite needs to be renamed.
