Hello and thank you for your help will my question. I'm using the Firefox Browser 78.7.1esr on my laptop with LinuxMint 17.3 installed. This version of Firefox is the most up to date allowed with my current operating system. Everything is working fine. The laptop sits on my desk at home, connected to a secure internet server. I do all my work online and everything has been working great.

Now I receive messages from Mozilla regarding older Firefox Browser versions, including the 78.1.7esr that will no long support signing in to Firefox or the syncing function. I've never used the sync option, however I totally depend on being able to access the Firefox Browser multiple times each day.

If I am understanding this correctly, after March 31, 2024 I will be effectively locked out of my Firefox Browser installation. Is this true? Do I have any other options beyond an update (which is impossible on my current laptop). Any other ideas?

I assume I need to move to a completely new web browser of some sort, although Firefox is great. Anything you can offer by way of ideas or help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

We already can add a custom url for new windows, so why not for tabs.

Highlighting with the mouse is full of glitches. It never works right. It either stops highlighting or highlights opposite the direction I'm moving the mouse.

I need to summarize a recent medical encounter; the hospital's 234 pages are out of temporal order and have many repeats. I want to put it in time order and delete the repeats. It's a PDF, and since I can't use Acrobat anymore, I read PDFs in Firefox.

Not once have I been able to mark a section of text properly. There seem to be some forbidden areas: I highlight what I can, transfer it, then go back for the rest, but it won't highlight.

Ctl-A highlights it. I often do that and delete the excess, but that's inconvenient.

I can open the same file in xpdf and mark without trouble, but I don't like xpdf.

For this doc, I converted the PDF to text with pdf2text, but it's harder to read. I identify target text in Firefox, then find it in the text version, use emacs to copy from the original to my summary.

I've tried a fresh battery in the mouse. Every other app works.

I usually have firefox running. Sometimes I want to display a file on my computer in firefox. Until today (don't know what happened today) I could; firefox would add a new tab for display of that file. Now it gives me an error, reports, 'Firefox is already running, but not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile'. This is inconvenient.

With increasing frustration, I'm am trying top retain certain cookies when deleting other cookies and history. Instructions I read say use "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox closes" with exceptions noted, and do not toggle "clear history when Firefox closes." Except that in my Firefox settings, they work in tandem - the choices are both on or both off. I can't turn one on and the other off. Under manage exceptions, I am entering the entire website address with the https. Any suggestions? Thanks. Joe Markarian

4 3 24 Hello Novice here so apologies if confused. For years have been able to use NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH UK SITE to book travel, last successful use was 19.10.2023 but 9.2.2024 site would not allow me to enter my account nor clicking 'forgotten password' option failed. Seaching via FIREFOX/GOOGLE for ACCOUNT LOG IN does not load any pages, just this https://book.nationalexpress.com/my-account/#/profile/view or https://book.nationalexpress.com/my-account/ if the above pasted page 'headers' help. NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH UK SITE allows booking pages to load but refuses to allow anything related to Customer Account, where one would not have to pay booking fees. Their latest reply is below: 'With regard to the password reset function, from the home page, after clicking you wish to sign in, followed by selecting Existing Customer, when pressing Forgotten Password a new web page should load. In order to isolate this process, one method would be to use the Incognito private function of the web browser. It may be called InPrivate, Private or similar depending on the browser, Chrome, Bing, Safari, Firefox etc. If you can go through the National Express logging in procedure, this should work. Also, could you ensure your web browser is running the most current version too. 'Another option you could try is to use a different web browser to see if that alleviates the problem." Using FIREFOX PRIVATE does not solve the problem, my system shows MOZILLA FIREFOX FOR LINUX MINT mint-001 -1.0 is what the last MINT UPDATE has provided, so presume the most recent version, so the only remaining change would be to install CHROME but why would FIREFOX suddenly fail to show such pages related to the COACH ACCOUNT LOG-IN in Feb 2024 when Oct 2023, no problems occurred? Have never had CHROME installed, as used FIREFOX since 2011. Anyone else experienced this problem OR could advise on the matters. Thanks in advance.

I'm using i3 window manager and normally popups would have some id or class that can be used to latch on and prevent the focus stealing but the windows created now do not have any such marker.

I am using Bookworm 12.5.0 Debian with KDE current and Firefox 115.8.0esr long-term version. All appear current. Spiral Linux is the effective shortcut to the Debian loading in its simplified installation. Firefox opens fine, but the field of display cannot be controlled well. I can use Ctl + 0 to somewhat manage, but otherwise any cursor movement sees the display go crazy. Trying to get the cursor over any point is simply impossible. I am using a different computer now to post this with the virtually identical software. This Intel pad differs from the Beelink Ryzen unit which is the unit going berserk. Is there anything that you can tell me other than the Ctl+0 to modify the operation of the unit. I had swapped out the monitor on the Beelink though I have no idea that the monitor is the problem as I do not have the same issue withDiscover or the desktop or any of the other software. I can open up Konsole and use that or open up OpenOffice or OfficeLibre with no similar issue. Would a different monitor act like that?

I am running Firefox 119.0 on Linux and am unable to stream video on many sites. I have tested a few sites, and the only site that actually works for streaming video is YouTube. The others either say 'Source Error' or just load forever.

Things I have tried:

  • Accepting cookies (via site exception)
  • Turned off Enhanced Tracking Protection for the site that won't stream video
  • Turned off pop-up blocker
  • Enabled auto-play of video and audio on the site
  • Checked for updates of Firefox (but there are none available)
  • Launched Firefox in Troubleshooting mode with all extensions and customizations disabled, but this makes no difference

At this point, after doing some online research and trying everything I can think of, I'm really out of ideas.

I would appreciate any suggestions or information anybody has.

Thank you

For now one week, I cannot sync my browser using Firefox sync. When checking the logs, I always see :

Sync.Resource WARN GET request to https://sync-788-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com/1.5/208380794/info/collections failed: [Exception... "The connection was refused" nsresult: "0x804b000d (NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED)" location: "<unknown>" data: no] No traceback available

I have tested on multiples wifi network and mobile data and still the same error. After checking, it seem that this server is down, and I don't know were to report this.

Is this the right place to report this or is it a thing I can do to fix that ?

Thanks

On bootup firefox opens a single window which says the following:

Sorry. We’re having trouble getting your pages back." We are having trouble restoring your last browsing session. Select Restore Session to try again.

The restore function succeeds in restoring 6 windows from the prior session, but this notice keeps appearing on every bootup.

Here are a few relevant details from about: config

  • browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes (is set to 1)
  • browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash (is set to true)
  • No 3rd party third party cleaning software
  • Two extensions, tab stash and tree tabs
  • There are no entries in about:crash for this event

Have been using Firefox from 2004 with 5-10 open windows which appear on bootup as they existed from the prior session. This is the first occurance of this error. Appreciate your support. Here are a few system details:

1.) 28gb ram 2.) Linux ~ LMDE 5 (Elsie) 3.) Firefox ESR 115.8 (oesr) 64 bit.

FF version Extended Support 115.70esr (64bit) I have set /General/Startup/"Open previous windows and tab" - FF does not restore. It worked as expect before I upgraded opsys (Opensuse15.4 to Opensuse15.5).

Please note: I AM NOT TRYING TO RECOVER FROM BEFORE THE UPGRADE! I am trying to get FF working normally (for me) with my usage and history SINCE the upgrade.

After reading https://support.mozilla.org/mk/questions/1407888 I believe I have tried everything there. FF sometimes restores one single historic tab, sometimes it comes with with one single tab opened to my default page.

1) "sessionstore.jsonlz4" did not exist in the main profile dir. (It does not because I followed instructions in the link above to copy it there and try again).

2) I do have a session file, found in sessionstore-backups dir , displayed with this recommended online converter/translater "https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/scrounger.html"; it shows the expected windows and tabs.

3) Starting after copying the "sess...jsoniz4" file into the main profile dir, I get one window with one tab displayed; I had about 4-5 windows and 15-20 tabs open when I last closed FF, although when doing research, I often have a 10-dozen windows with 100+ tabs.

4) The History menu does not show a "Restore..." option at all. In the window that did open with a historic tab, the History/RecentlyClosedTabs contains a list of plausible sites, about 10, which may be correct for that window. But there were certainly many that were actually open at the time I shut down FF and the window has only opened one.

Thank you for any help here. Rufus

Tomorrow I will help a friend update their unsupported Linux OS to the most current version of the OS. The present version of Firefox is 88. Firefox could not update I assume because of the age of the OS.

My concern is porting everything correctly from the old to the new version of Firefox. If I setup sync, will it restore his passwords and add-ons in addition to his bookmarks?

If not is there a good way to do it?
