I want that little star back that opens the bookmarks sidebar. It's just to the left of the address field on XP in FP 25. But on Windows 8 in FP 25.0.1 it's not there. Instead there's a star that sometimes appears on the right of the address bar. But the star on the right does not open the bookmarks sidebar. It only displays a list of bookmarks and options, which do not include opening the sidebar. Has this option been removed and replaced with Ctrl B?

Hi, I've just accidentally deleted my whole partition which I save the back up bookmark (.json). I did manage to recovered it from a program but it seem like Firefox unable to process it. And my Sync Data seem to be gone too. And I know nothing about json file (yeah, I did some research but it seem it's out of my range.) I guess anyone can help me?

I have a new computer. I downloaded Mozilla, we t to the internet, and saved a url in "unsorted bookmarks". I then imported my bookmarks from my other computer. They also show in a version of "unsorted", but it appears to be a different unsorted library. They seem to be in two different locations, both labeled "unsorted".

What is going on?

Background Information: I use the old client version 3.6 as there's an old utility addon that the author stopped updating and will not work with the newer revisions. Despite disabling the update feature both in about:config and in preferences, the browser still eventually updates (Originally I was using 3.4, and would prefer to use that, but no matter how much I try I can no longer roll it back from 3.6 to 3.4 even if I reinstall using a 3.4 installer). As a result I've had a habit of keeping a copy of my firefox directory in case it updates itself again without asking, which it has. This might help you guys out in answering the countless people who have lost their bookmarks due to the upgrades released this year, and will hopefully someone to investigate and release a patch/utility to fix the issue.

Issue: I have verified that the newest clients from at least version 20 and onwards, are not compatible with the older bookmark JSON files. People who have been upgraded to the latest revision not only lose their bookmarks, but CANNOT restore them either, as Firefox will only return the error message: "Unable to Process the Backup File".

I have confirmed that the files themselves are perfectly intact with no sign of corruption, and are as intended. They restore ok to older browser revisions (In my case specifically 3.6), but will not restore to the newer client revisions. This is not a fault with the bookmark backups, but with the newer clients (I'm guessing they changed the way they store the information in the JSONs at some point. I note in the code for the JSONs that GUID was never used in the older revisions, but it is in the newer revisions. Perhaps this is causing an incompatibility issue? You just need to adjust the client so that it looks for the GUID and if none can be found to ignore it rather than decide the file is corrupt.

Old JSON Code snippet: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":1306666129870000,"lastModified":1306670152435000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"placesRoot","children":[{"title":"Bookmarks Menu","id":2,"parent":1,"dateAdded":1306666129870000,"lastModified":1381254048121000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"bookmarksMenuFolder","children":[{"title":"Recently Bookmarked","id":6,"parent":2,"annos":[{"name":"Places/SmartBookmark","flags":0,"expires":4,"mimeType":null,"type":3,"value":"RecentlyBookmarked"}],"type":"text/x-moz-place","uri":"place:folder=BOOKMARKS_MENU&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=TOOLBAR&sort=12&excludeQueries=1&excludeItemIfParentHasAnnotation=livemark%2FfeedURI&maxResults=10&queryType=1"},{"index":1,"title":"Recent Tags","id":7,"parent":2,"annos":[{"name":"Places/SmartBookmark","flags":0,"expires":4,"mimeType":null,"type":3,"value":"RecentTags"}],"type":"text/x-moz-place","uri":"place:sort=14&type=6&maxResults=10&queryType=1"},{"index":2,"title":"","id":8,"parent":2,"dateAdded":1294868015246000,"lastModified":1294868015246000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-separator"}

New JSON Code Snippet: {"title":"","guid":"5rkFafJ6AnRZ","id":1,"index":0,"dateAdded":1396387525168000,"lastModified":1396387525168000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"placesRoot","children":[{"title":"Bookmarks Menu","guid":"m7vLM41-lzQi","id":2,"index":0,"parent":1,"dateAdded":1396387525168000,"lastModified":1396387526173000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"bookmarksMenuFolder","children":[{"title":"Recently Bookmarked","guid":"BEffyw6xva93","id":13,"index":0,"parent":2,"dateAdded":1396387526172000,"lastModified":1396387526172000,"annos":[{"name":"Places/SmartBookmark","flags":0,"expires":4,"value":"RecentlyBookmarked"}],"type":"text/x-moz-place","uri":"place:folder=BOOKMARKS_MENU&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=TOOLBAR&queryType=1&sort=12&maxResults=10&excludeQueries=1"},{"title":"Recent Tags","guid":"WmnlbVv38Bjv","id":14,"index":1,"parent":2,"dateAdded":1396387526172000,"lastModified":1396387526172000,"annos":[{"name":"Places/SmartBookmark","flags":0,"expires":4,"value":"RecentTags"}],"type":"text/x-moz-place","uri":"place:type=6&sort=14&maxResults=10"}

Solution? Well in my case I had a backup copy of the old revision directory. To restore I opened the copy, and exported the bookmarks as an HTML, which I restored in the newer client. If you do not have a copy of the old client, the best thing would be to try and reinstall an older revision of the client and either make a copy of the program folder and use another copy of that so you can use both the new and old clients and not worry about the loss of an older revision since you'll always have 2 copies of the old client (One you're using, one you use to restore if it upgrades). Or you export the bookmarks as an HTML, then upgrade the client to the newest and import the HTML instead of the JSON files.

Please investigate and create an easier solution to a silly incompatibility issue. ^_^

I even see this animation of a star moving to the list of bookmarks. But when I go into the bookmarks they are not listed. I have tried right clicking on the page and clicking the star and I have tried it form the tool bar. Neither works. I have also renamed the places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old and that doesn't seem to do a thing.

As you can see in my screenshot of my desktop. I have a folder of my retrieved firefox bookmarks

I want to get this folder off of the desktop and drag it back into it's proper living space within the indexed folders in my hard drive icon.

What is the file path directions (from folder to folder) I need to into to drag and drop this retrieved folder back to where it should be??

Will doing this make me lose my bookmarks? As I browse with this retrieved folder on my desktop, all my favorite and bookmarks are in place as they should be in firefox.... Will I need to rename this folder or something in order to make sure once it is moved back to it's proper place that is will be talking properly to firefox now in it's new/permanent and proper location?

Everything was hunky dory until the awful v48 update. With no other changes to the system, bookmarks are now annoyingly slow to use. If I try to bookmark this page for example, FF has to think for 2-5 seconds before I can enter tags. After saving the bookmark it freezes for another 1-3 seconds before I can do anything else. This is an awful downgrade.

There were absolutely no other changes to my setup except for the update. I didn't change any preference, install an addon, or the like. In any case, I performed a safe mode test and this makes the pauses even worse.

What else can I try? Your FF knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

At least since updating to v.49, whenever I add a bookmark to a folder or sub-folder, I get a duplicate in unsorted bookmarks. The duplicate entry cannot be deleted (delete option is grayed out). Deleting the entry in the folder/sub-folder deletes both entries. Recreating the bookmark in the folder/sub-folder just recreates the duplicates.

Solutions on Mozilla support involve deleting control files, modifying the registry, removing firefox, re-installing, etc. l-- sorry going through something like that is not why I have a firefox browser. Is there a simple solution to this problem? Is the firefox community working on preventing these duplicates in future releases? Is there at least a workaround?

BTW: I don't think this is a Sync problem. The machine I sync with is powered down 90% of the time.

On the morning of October 1st, 2016 I was trying to move April's webhistory into September's Webhistory by tricking my computer into thinking it was still September 30th, so that I wouldn't have to randomly search through the massive category of "older than 6 months" eventually Firefox refused to continue loading pages or even access older pages on my tabhistory. I restarted my computer & allowed an update to Firefox to activate, however when I reactivated Firefox it took a lot longer to load than normal, only for it to show a crash message after about 1 minute each time I tried to start it, safe mode & restarting my PC made no difference.

Eventually I had the insane idea to copy all of my firefox information onto a flashdrive then completely refresh it on my main computer, however even then there was no difference. In frustration I decided to start using the vastly inferior browser known as internet explorer, I looked into Mozilla support using it. I got this computer in late July 2013, & was extremely careful with it, there were no virus threats or anything on this computer & I'm still using Windows 8.
This is my most recent crash Crash ID: bp-c995142e-114e-4ae4-a013-4dd1a2161003
This is probably the oldest Firefox restart crash in the chain Crash ID: bp-f9bd6bcf-f99b-4276-9ac3-e790f2161001

Hopefully this information helps some.

Strange new problem w. firefox. Click on "bookmark this page."

My subject folders/names appear EXCEPT that the top one has a lined box next to the folder icon and instead of the actual folder name, it has another name (in this case, "video" which is the name of one of my already existing folders).

With the box & the name inside of it, it looks as if it is a blank box waiting for me to enter a name, but it's already got "video" written in for me.

In any case, as I use the slider to scroll down thru my bookmarks, the name "video" follows along, overlaying each of the existing folder name in turn.

In other words, if my first bookmarks folder is titled "audio," when I go to bookmark my page, the word "video" appears in place of "audio." As I scroll down, "video" moves as well and appears instead of each successive folder name.

If I park the current page in one of those folders...say, "music" (even though "video" appears in place of "music)" and then access my bookmarks from the upper toolbar, scroll down to the folder where I parked my page ("music," in this example), there it is....in the folder with the correct name..."music."

Once that's done and I want to go to the site again via my bookmark, I simply go to the original folder ("music") and there it is. No moving "video" in sight.

Hi everyone,

Recently I was cleaning some malware/viruses/spyware/worms and all other nasty files located on hard drive of computer. Actually I still have them but this is NOT the purpose of my message. The problem is that I lost everything in Firefox. All my bookmarks that I cannot live without are gone. ALL. Each and every bookmark is gone. Saved passwords are gone. Addons are gone. Online banking certificate is gone. Also when I click CTRL T to add new tab in same window I get extremely annoying squares (3 lines and each line with 5 squares) which are graphically showing websites I have visited. Please if someone could help me to get everything back, particularly bookmarks are extremely important.

I tried to do three possible tasks but neither of them worked.

TASK ONE:

Usage of about:<wbr>profiles command in address bar but it is reporting error message saying The address isn't valid.

TASK TWO (consisting of multiple steps):

step 1: finding old firefox profiles I could manage to find. I hope they are NOT all otherwise I am in huge trouble. Hopefully something was overlooked and you will see why in upcoming steps.

step 2: clicking Open menu icon on the left hand side of firefox consisting of three horizontal lines and click Open Help Menu icon and then click Troubleshooting Information

step 3: clicking about:profiles in section Application Basics. Here I then added every single profile I am aware of via button Create A New Profile

step 4: for each of profile I got listed, I clicked on Launch profile in new browser and my bookmarks, together with other settings (online banking certificate, saved passwords, addons,...) were NOT ( !!! ) there. In neither of profile. I pray that I overlooked some saved profile...

TASK THREE:

Bookmarks menu\Show All Bookmarks\Import And Backup\Restore. However, In this submenu Restore there is nothing to be restored.

Someone please help me as I really need to get, particularly but not only bookmarks, back.

Waiting extremely anxiously for your reply...

Thank you in advance a billion times!
