I am getting a solid red screen with screeching sound saying a web site is trying to do something to my computer and that it's a FIREFOX CRITICAL ERROR and I need to call help desk. The only way I have found to close the window is to open Task Manager and close Firefox. Sometimes after rebooting the page will go away for a period of time but it always comes back. HELP! How do I get rid of this monster? The Windows 10 Virus scanner won't clear it and neither will Malwarebytes malware scanner.

Thank you, Jake

Hello. I am experiencing constant BSOD crashes since Firefox updated to Quantum. It happends shortly after seemingly unrelated actions: opening a link, clicking video to play, or even attempting to close the app. Turning hardware acceleration off didn't solve the problem, although my PC is Sony VAIO laptop with combined Intel/Nvidia graphics which (probably) may complicate things. Resetting Firefox didn't help either. O/s is Windows 7. I also have KAV.

usually happens playing videos on facebook or clicking on links to dailykos headlines. I have to turn the computer off entirely bypassing the normal shut down proceedure in order to undo the freezing. When I restart the computer it goes back to the freezing place and gets stuck again. There was a brief flash that said a webpage was causing the problem in yellow at the top of the screen; it lasted about 3 sec and then disappeared. after 3 times of trying the normal shut down after restarting my computer required a rather lengthy disc scan (3 indices) where many files were deleted and restored. I would like to continue using firefox but I am confused about why this is happening. What is my computer doing while freezing if indeed it is a webpage that is causing this to happen. I used malwarebytes anti virus and microsoft security essentials scans regularly and use good internet habits. Is this somehow related to the recent Intel invasion? So I just got a message about an installed plugin, Shockwave Flash 28.0 r0. I guess this means I should deactivate it?

Firefox within the last month has started freezing every time on a Windows 7 laptop every time I try one of the above actions. I have tried "refresh Firefox", safe mode, uninstall/reinstall, nothing seems to help. Can't open prefs so I have not been able to turn off hardware acceleration. However, I was able to set up Firefox Sync which let me get my bookmarks to another PC and it looks like make setting changes on that PC affects this copy of FF so I <think> I've also tried turning off hardware acceleration. Nothing works. Especially frustrating that the options freeze. Firefox has worked for years on the affected laptop, is there anything I can do except give up and switch to another browser?

hi about 2 days ago ff stopped working. i type an address into the usual window like i've done a million times, hit enter, and nothing happens. i click on a bookmark, the url shows up in the address window, but nothing happens. there are maybe 3 bookmarks that still work, and all the rest are duds. auto-complete still works, but firefox refuses to take to the address. i get a lot of "flash crashes" (thanks, adobe) so i recently updated flash, and that started the problem. this is why i distrust updates. (for the record, i keep current with firefox updates, even though it is still bloatware that uses 2 GB just to run 3 windows. anyway, any help you could offer would be most... helpful! (not sure why my exclamation points are printing as open-brackets, but hey, whatever, that's the internet) thanks, tim

I have a brand new computer, an HP Elite, running fully patched Windows 10. I am having the same problem over and over. When browsing in Firefox (the latest version - fully patched) the computer suddenly locks up. I get the spinning wheel. After I wait a while it might unlock but until it does all applications, Outlook, Word, everything that is open, is unavailable. Here is my latest Event Viewer message. (scroll down please)

Log Name: Application Source: Application Hang Date: 1/16/2018 2:47:59 PM Event ID: 1002 Task Category: (101) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: MIKEW10ELITE Description: The program firefox.exe version 57.0.4.6577 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. I have gotten other messages in Event Viewer when the lock ups occur. They are this: Log Name: Application Source: Application Hang Date: 1/16/2018 10:03:42 AM Event ID: 1002 Task Category: (101) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: MIKEW10ELITE Description: The program svchost.exe version 10.0.16299.15 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. While the lockup is in place I might try to click something. Then I'll get the message in the attached graphic. Clicking "Do you want to end this process" with OK rarely does anything. This whole deal hoses my computer completely and forces me to reboot.

I've worked with Microsoft. The first time I did a complete reinstall of Windows 10. The second time I tried removing services with msconfig. Nothing is working.

Is this a Firefox problem?

Thank you.

It seems that recently Firefox (perhaps the pop-up notifications) are freezing my Windows 7 machine. I have used Firefox for years without this problem. During the past weeks I notice that system freezes seem to happen when a Firefox pop-up notification appears at the lower right of the screen (e.g. Firefox 38.0.5 is available ...). The mouse will continue to move the cursor on the screen for a few seconds, then that freezes to. I get no response from the keyboard, even CTRL-ALT-DEL and power button fail to reboot the machine; I must remove and reattach the power cord.

Hoping that Mozilla had fixed the problem I updated today to Firefox 39.0, but when a Firefox browser plugin presented a notification in the lower right of the screen the system froze again. I do not have this freeze problem when Mozilla Thunderbird presents a notification in the lower right of the screen (e.g. XXXXXX received 6 new messages).

Hi,

since the update to FF 53.0 (and now also with 53.0.2) I've had it freeze on me 5 times and every time it also completely locked up my PC - mouse was frozen, Ctrl+Alt+Del didn't work, gave it 10 minutes but was still frozen afterwards - and I had to shut my PC down forcefully.

My system: FF 53.0.2 (32 bit) Win 7 (64 bit) 16gb RAM FF Addons: NoScript & AdBlock Plus

No changes in terms of add ons, no Windows updates or new programs that could have caused this. The only programs running in the background are/were my anti-virus/anti-malware programs, Skype, Outlook, Rainmeter and my mouse driver (all of which I've used for at least the last 6 months). The first two times it happened when I tried to restore tabs from the "oops, that shouldn't have happened" page and the last 3 times when I opened a new tab (with 1-2 other tabs open at max, usually only an empty one!). The 3rd time was 2 weeks ago, the 4th time on May 9th when I opened a new tab after clicking on one of my tiles on the "new tab" page (no other tabs were open at the same time!). Today it happened again! I installed a bunch of Windows updates a couple of days ago and this time I had Minecraft loading up and was watching a movie (DVD) in VLC (no Outlook running this time) but when I opened a second tab in FF, the picture froze again. The weird part is that the sound of the movie kept playing but it didn't let me move the mouse or open the Task Manager. I've never had a video run at the time of the freeze, so I don't know if Windows would have still kept playing the sound the other times.

I can play really hardware-intensive games that use 50+% of my cpu (not that there are a lot that do) and a lot of my gpu's power/VRAM and/or RAM (sometimes goes as high as overall 13gb/16gb) but I've never had any freezes just with games + watching a video at the same time, it always happens while opening a website through one of the tiles or a new tab directly in FF 53.x!

I am running Firefox on Linux Mint 13 Maya. For some reason many of the buttons in Firefox (not on webpages but in FireFox itself) do not respond to mouse clicks. I have tried Safemode, refresh/restore and uninstall/reboot/reinstall. Still the same problem. I have a hard time accessing settings because the menu button is one of those that "depresses" but does not respond to any mouse clicks. Also I can not activate or deactivate plugins because of the same problem.

I had been having problems with firefox since a few months ago. When I opened it, it worked really good, but two or three hours later it got reeeally slow, and when checking the Windows Task Manager it said that Firefox was using about 2.5 RAM GB and I had to restart Firefox. The real problem started when I got sick of the previous issue and tried to fix it. and what kind of fixed that problem was refreshing Firefox (reinstall it didn't worked and I say "kind of fixed it" because only made the problem to take a bit longer).

I was so happy that I got like 5 hours on Firefox but then it got slow again and tried to restart it but... Firefox didn't do anything, just kind of freezd in the start (see image below). In this stage, won't even try to load anything, if I type an address and press enter, it won’t do anything, I can open the menu and open tabs, windows and private windows but all of them are the same. The only way to close firefox is by this menu (the X button in the top right corner doesn’t work). I can’t even load the add-ons page, nor the settings page. I have access to the help menu to refresh firefox but that fixes the problem only for one session (if I close and/or restart firefox, the problem returns).

I tried all what is said here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems but didn’t work or worked just for one session (reinstall, refresh and new profile solutions work for a single session, but the problem with the RAM persists, doesn't even work with safe mode).

I tried the solution given here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1021896 but won’t work not even for a single session. I neeeeeed help! Thanks!

This started to happen two days ago. I'm using Firefox 36.0.1 on my brother's laptop, always using private browsing, and things seem to work fine for 5-10 minutes. After that, the browser won't load or refresh any website at all, it just shows the spinning wheel and/or a white page, with no error messages.

After trying to close and open process again, I receive a dialog saying that Firefox is running already. I can see the process running but I can't close it with task manager. Have to reboot and manually delete the parent.lock file on my profile folder.

Once I can open it, after 5 minutes, it happens again.

What I've tried: Deleted cache, cookies and history. Disabled extensions. Disabled Javascript. Went to normal browsing. Went Into safe mode. Made a new profile. Refreshed Firefox. Uninstalled and reinstalled.

Last seemed to work, installed Adblock and managed to recover my bookmarks. Worked for 1 hour, then it happened again.

Checked for my firewall, there was an exception already. Checked my antivirus, my brother's laptop uses Avast, disabled webshield. No need to check for proxys, don't use them. Everything was working fine till two days ago.

Posting from my desktop computer. My current browser has more plugins and extensions installed. This one works fine. So I'm putting my brother's specs.

Version: 36.0.1 Extensions: only Adblock Plus and Download Helper Plugins: Shockwave Flash and Java all up-to-date. OS: Win 8 64bit Sys Specs (don't know if this is relevant): Intel I7 3,5GHz 8GB RAM

I have been having an issue with Firefox freezing "sporadically" on my PC. In a nutshell, Firefox freezes typically once per boot-up cycle. By freeze, I mean that my whole PC locks up and is unusable, no clicking is allowed for any task, but my mouse is free to scroll around. Once the computer unfreezes, typically under 1 minute later, whatever action I had taken will pop up (including but not limited to ctrl-alt-del). This freezing only occurs on certain websites, and only after boot-up. The frequent problem I have isolated is yahoo mail, where the browser becomes stuck on "read s.yimg.com".

As far as I know, this only occurs shortly after boot up. If I magically avoid culprit sites, the PC eventually reaches a state where I have yet to witness a freeze. So say I get lucky on a few websites and edit a word doc for an hour, when I eventually load yahoo mail, it may NOT freeze.

I am currently running Firefox version 43.01. I had been using 36.04 until I updated to 43.0, and the problem started occurring on 36.04. I ran Firefox via safe mode, and also manually disabled all add-ons, but the problem persisted.

Also gave google chrome a shot, and I did not come across this same issue.

Anybody see this before? Curious for any insight you are able to provide, and a possible solution. While it may seem like a stupid question (do stupid questions actually exist?), could this be a virus? My gut tells me no, but I am no computer specialist.

Thanks!

I noticed a few months back that Firefox quantum 65.0.2 (64 bit) uploads are extremely slow. A 186kb image that is uploaded instantly in Chrome or Firefox developer edition (65.0b11 64 bit) takes about 30-45 seconds in quantum, a 900kb image jumps to 14% when I hit upload, then super slowly climbs up by 2%-4% at a time, finally finishing the upload 3 minutes later, and by the time the upload finishes the google captcha I entered has expired and it tells me to retry the upload. The same 900kb image uploads in 2 seconds on chrome and firefox dev. Also some websites like twitch.tv are super slow to load, not even a video stream, the homepage takes about 20 seconds to load, then another 30 seconds for the video to start playing, while the site loads and starts playing the homepage video within a few seconds on chrome and firefox dev. I've tried everything, launching firefox in safe mode, reinstalling firefox and trying with no plugins, switching between system proxy settings and no proxy. Is there anything else I can try? Super annoying having to launch chrome every time I need to upload something.

Thanks
