I recently upgraded to 91.7.1esr and the shortcut icons that open when I open a new page have changed. They are now about a quarter the size they used to be and are located inside small white squares. The squares themselves are the size the icons used to be. This is a nightmare! Can I change them back to the way they were?

When logging into my financial institutions website it reports back that I have version 91... of the Firefox browser installed and that it isn't supported. I actually have version 101.0.1 as reported by the browser itself. I called them and they asked me to check my version of Firefox by using www.whatismybrowser.com and it reports back that I'm running version 91. Can you help?

Youtube videos stopped working properly: when I open a video page (https://www.youtube.com/abcde) I can only make it go forward by continuously clicking the play button. The video immediately pauses all the time. At first, clicking play played only 1 frame or so. Eventually, after I changed FF's autoplay setting from "Block Audio" to "Allow Audio and Video" videos play a few frames at a time. I do hear the audio (in sync with the video, so also a few frames at a time). It happens with every video I try.

Embedded videos (https://www.youtube.com/embed/abcde) and Youtube's mini player work fine. Video pages do work in a new profile, but I would like to keep my current profile.

Things I've also tried, to no avail:

  • disabling all add-ons
  • new privacy window
  • switching tracking protection between standard and strict
  • disabling hardware acceleration
  • disabling media controls
  • disabling smooth scrolling
  • deleting Youtube and Google cookies

This is with the Firefox version on Debian bullseye (91.11.0).

The only similar description I found was on Reddit [1], except that it's a different FF version and it only happens with 1 profile.

All firefox based browsers stop video playback if window/tab loses focus

Hello, for some reason firefox and all firefox related browsers have developed a problem on my system. All videos and streams stop playing if the window/tab loses focus. This is not the first time this has happened but earlier this year using the about:config flag I will mention below the problem seemed to be fixed but now it is back and worse than ever. I have a symmetrical gigabit connection and the problem only occurs in firefox and it's related browsers, no other aspect of my internet is affected, just video/streams and only in these kinds of browsers.

I do have a bunch of extensions but all are ones I have had for a long time, years in most cases, they were not the cause of the problem before and starting in troubleshoot mode plus a fresh profile in a fresh instal confirmed they are not to blame now either.

To be precise about the issue, when I say the videos stop that is exactly what I mean, there are no lags, no buffering, no partially loaded video bar( where applicable), no tab crashes, no connection problems, no warnings about certain tabs or extensions slowing things down, nothing at all, the video simply stops.

I have tried

- safe/troubleshooting mode to rule out any extensions
- with and without my vpn running
- doing fresh installs of the browsers/ complete fresh slate, revo uninstaller pro ran and using fresh profiles
- found some suggestions for the about:config page, namely window_occlusion_tracking
- found some contradicting information about hardware acceleration but I tried both with and without and it makes no difference
- experimenting with different versions of firefox, so if you can see which version I am using as I post this, the reason it is not the latest version is because I have tried rolling back through older releases to find one that works, but have yet to suceed,

But no matter what I have tried I cannot get the problem sorted. Either I have that specific window and tab as the sole active window on my device or I need to click into it and either reload the tab or push the play button multiple times before playback resumes.

Open to ideas because i'd rather not have to resort to chrome, thanks

Mozilla clearly lost it with their unique identifier, anyways i got a question on this topic.

If i download Firefox here https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release there will be a unique identifier, but if download it here https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ There won't be such an identifier.

So, which is the better option since i know little about mozilla.org not sure if it's secure. Also when i download from the first link, what will the unique identifier track exactly since i open my browser and paste the URL for download, i don't come to the downloadsite from any other site or search result, i directly go there, so what will happen with the identification in that case? I know i had a similar thread before, but question is still open.

Hello, I have a strange issue. When I am in Gmail using Firefox, my time is off by 5 hours. I can open Gmail in Edge and the time is correct.

I have 2 time zones listed in my Google calendar. I removed the secondary one and the time still stays the same.

One posted mentioned that they changed the computer time zone and this resolved the issue. I tried that and still get the same incorrect time.

I can log into my laptop and I get the same issue with Firefox being 5 hours off but Edge being right on time.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

Just paid $150.00 for a remote session from my computer store. Advice is: My older computer (2004)and it's graphic capabilities aren't compatible with newest FF. So I'll stick with older version (9) until I decide to get new computer. Firefox is my preference, but if I update, it's likely to break again. Please tell me how to stop all update notices. It is maddening. Or, if you can do it, please do. I don't want to use the others. It has crashed twice, just FF, in the last few days. A system restore saved me, but I updated and lost it. Can you help this not wealthy person? I thank you for your fine product, and your help.

I forgot my password to my Firefox account, and only just realized I haven't updated it in KeypassXC when I was trying to log in to a new machine. It seems that, even though I am already logged in on my old computer and have full access to my account (including saved passwords, bookmarks, and browsing history) I can't find a way to reset my password without deleting all of my synced data. From the "Change Password" menu, it requires my old password if I want to change it without deleting everything. Also, I have 2FA enabled, so why isn't there the option to authenticate my identity in a password reset using 2FA instead of my old password? I know a similar thing already exists for recovery keys, but I only have 2FA. Is there any way for me to reset my password where I don't lose everything? Thank you.

I came across this article https://brave.com/popular-browsers-first-run/ which says the following

> A granular description of the device was also included in this payload: an Apple Model ID (if any), details about the CPU (e.g. cores, extensions, family, L3 and L2 cache, model number, speed, vendor), graphics card and display settings (e.g. name of graphics card, full on-disk address to drivers, driver dates, vendor, version, whether or not the GPU is active, amount of on-board memory, current state of D2D and DWrite, a granular set of feature flags, connected displays (how many, resolutions, refresh rates), hard drives (e.g. model names, type), operating system (e.g. name, date of install, locale, version, granular windows build number), security software (e.g. names of anti-spyware, antivirus, and firewalls in use), and more. > > One of the more interesting observations about this Telemetry payload is the presence of a key called environment.settings.telemetryEnabled, which was set to false. Presumably this would mean no such telemetry calls would be made, which clearly was not the case.

And was wondering if Firefox can shed more light on why it seems that disabling telemetry apparently does not stop the pingsender process?

Recently I have noticed that when I want to display HTML source of the page Firefox asks me to log to the site once again. WHY? I am already logged in. The page is already loaded and displayed. So why it needs my password again?????

In some cases the page is actually loaded once again which can result in different content being displayed as "a page" and different as "a source" (if there is a dynamic insertion on the page changed on every get). But sometimes it shows old, cached source while the rendered page is already changed. I know that I can see actual content by using the Inspector but "show the source" function was more convenient. Now I can not believe that the "source" shown is a source of the actual "page" Such misfeatures make the function totally useless.

Firefox version 91.8.0esr for Debian.

Hello

It's been a while since I used firefox on my Mac. Now I just downloaded it because I need it for my studies.

Now I have a really big issue. Since I installed it over a week before, I had to set my bookmarks, privacy settings and other things and my passwords for several times now. Now I'm a little bit upset, I hope you can understand that, it's nothing personal, but I don't want to waste my time for that. I never had a browser with such a bad user data management. My data got deleted several times. Today it happened again and after I noticed it I closed firefox and after reopening I got a message (it was the first one) that I have to install an update. I confirmed the message and updated it. Everything was lost again. I'm a little bit angry now. I had to google it and wasted even more time on that topic. Now I found out that firefox is setting up different user profiles after each update. As I described, I only had one update message to confirm until now. The ff-help guide suggested, I should look it up in the profile settings and I did. Now there are 8!!! different user profiles. There is no date displayed when the user profiles where created, so it took even more time to look every single profile up, to explore if anyone of them contains my user data, but not a single one did. Now I have to waste even more time again, to write you this issue and possibly wait days for an answer. You can image how happy I am right now. I'm not. Now I got several questions and I please you to answer any single one:

1. Why is a new user profile going to get created when I install an update? 2. Why is ff the only browser who creates user profiles automaticly without my permission? 3. What advantage do I take as a user from that? 4. Are you going to fix it or is this the ultimate future solution for firefox now? Then I definetly have to search another solution and to use another browser. This is really annoying, can you understand that?

Thank you alot for you help and understanding.

Best Regards Marvin
