Hello,

We're using firefox esr on windows 10 for long time in our high school. The users firefox profile are redirected to their map home directory on a samba share.

Everything was working as expected.

Since we deploy ESR 78 our user are randomly unable to access their gmail account. Only after we delete google cookies they can access it again. Appart from gmail access everything else works.

I am suspecting a network issue and I've tried some tweak on my samba server. But no success so far.

Has anybody seen this problem? Is it supposed to be ok to keep user profile on a samba share?

Any clue would be appreciate.

Thank you

Background information: since version 87 of firefox, I have been having problems viewing pdfs online. All the suggestions from people provided on the post, placed in another part of thecommunity, didn't work for me. I decided to remove my installation of Firefox and install a new uptodate version. I decided on this after I had installed Brave as an alternate browser and changed it to the default browser in my frustration. Now: I was unaware that I had downloaded the enterprise version. When I got to the settings, next to "make Firefox your default browser" there was a statement in red saying "your browser is being managed by your organization". Clicking the link brings up a policy screen which says "don't check default browser" with a value of true and no way - as far as i can see of changing the value. And it is also unchangeable in Brave. I hope someone has an answer for me. The one good thing about the current situation is that I can read pdfs in the browser. Is there an emoji for headache?

Background: The environment is a Windows 10 based peer to peer network with one PC acting as file and print server. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre, shared via UNC path to the clients, connecting via fixed IP address (not WSD).

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit (build 19043) Mozilla: Mozilla Firefox ESR (x64 en-US) 78.12.0

  • On this network the Xerox is defaulted to A4 paper and all PC's pull these settings from the print server.
  • The local PC settings also show default paper size as A4.
  • Most programs (Word, Outlook, Notepad, Print Test Page) respect these settings and so when printing, the print job prints as expected.
  • Firefox will print non-PDF pages to A4 as expected.

* PDF files, when opened in Firefox, do not print without causing a paper sizing related error on the printer.

  • In turns out the when querying the advanced settings, the Firefox PDF engine is defaulting to Letter paper.

So there are two issues as I see it:

1 - The Firefox PDF engine is not respecting the default paper size of the default printer. 2 - There is no way I can see to tell Firefox to use A4 paper.

As a side note none of the printers have a locally installed printer, I have no idea if this makes a difference.

My workaround has been to install Adobe Reader and set this as the default PDF reader both in Windows and Firefox.

Does anyone know how to set Firefox to A4 for it's PDF engine?

Is there a solution to preinstall user specific bookmarks? After new installation of Firefox, the profile folder does not exist and i can not copy places.sqlite into it. If i use policies.json there are only systemwide bookmarks possible. But i am looking for user specific bookmarks to deploy after a new installation.

I originally had the latest release version of Firefox but started to experience issues with certain banking websites, and misc printing issues. So I decided to downgrade from the release version to the extended support release.

I uninstalled the release version, and went into the Appdata folder and deleted anything Firefox related. Then I installed the ESR version. It worked fine for the day, but a restart the next day, I discovered that my install changed from ESR to the release channel. I once again went through the install process mentioned above, and the next day, the same thing happened. Any idea on why this might be changing?

Note: I have tried both the MSI and .exe versions and experience the same issue. I am the only one that logs into this workstation. This workstation is actually a Azure Virtual Desktop with a variation of windows 10. (Screenshot attached with the OS).

Intune MSI LOB Deployment Return Codes

Hi,

I want to deploy the Firefox .msi installer using Intune as Line of Business application.

I can deploy any other msi in this manner successfully, except Firefox. The application installs, but never reports back to Intune that it was a success, just pending, which makes my AutoPilot deployment fail.

Here are a couple forms from people having the same issue.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Intune/comments/mvp80t/firefox_msi_always_waiting_for_install_status/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Intune/comments/lych1h/deployed_msi_stuck_on_pending_install/

It seems that the only way people can fix it is by wrapping the .exe installer as win32 app in Intune. While that technically works, it removes abilities to control versions in a large company.

We really need the MSI to return success codes properly, or we have to stop using Firefox.

Anyone know of any workarounds? Is there something in the MSI I can tweak with Orca?

Thanks

Jeff

We are deploying Firefox ESR using Ivanti and have reached a point were were need to start cleaning up rogue installs of Firefox that we are not managing. Has anyone deployed ESR over a local install of Firefox. Does the end user end up with two version of Firefox install or does the ESR version write over the previously installed version? Does the end user lose their bookmarks and history? I'm just curious as too what others have experienced so I can notify my first test group on what they can expect.

Hi.

I hope you can help me to figure out how to upgrade Firefox properly when not using Mozilla Maintenance Service . If I do upgrade Mozilla Firefox manually (running exe installation) or forcing upgrade for thousands computer through Central management, profiles will blow up.

It is popping for the users:

You've launched an older version of Firefox Using an older version of Firefox can corrupt bookmarks and browsing history already saved to an existing Firefox profile. To protect your information, create a new profile for this installation of Firefox.

It is not related to central management because I've tried to install manually by executing Firefox exe executable - firstly to install Mozilla Firefox 97.0 and after that 98.0 and I've got the same error.

Thank you

I am a Cyber Security Specialist and System Integrator (www.techwareusa.com and www.cybersecureusa.com ). I have developed a pretty good Cyber Security Stack with the exception of one chink in my armor. I have been running the Stack on my Clients systems (about 100 total) for over two years and have had only one breach. That breach was caused by the Client not following my suggestion (read any popup and don’t just click through it). He does now.

Part of my Stack is Firefox which I like a lot except that your cyber security leaves one thing as an exposure.

If one were to browse to a poisoned website (namely one infected with malware of some type) and click on an inserted link, malware is automatically downloaded and installed. Firefox does nothing to stop the system from being infected. This kind of website is one that pops up with a big red screen saying your machine has been infected with a “trojan” or some such. Do not attempt to turn off your system and call Microsoft Support at xxx-xxx-xxxx” (often an 800 #). Indeed, the browser is locked and can’t be closed from a normal action. (When I install Firefox, I setup the security features for my Clients including telling it to block pop-up windows and Warn you when websites try to install add-ons in the Privacy & Security, Permissions section. I have my Clients systems under my control via Splashtop Remote Support into my office. If the “Tech” hasn’t messed up my Splashtop install, I will go in, use Task Manager to shut down Firefox and then clean the system. If the “Tech” did mess up my Splashtop install, the system will have to be sent to me to fix. I have Clients in several states across the southern part of the country.

If the Client calls the 800# the “tech” will remotely access their system and totally messes it up with registry entry’s, replacing files with corrupted versions and such actions. All of this to raise the cost to my Client. They will charge the Client about $700 to $800 but also they will get the Client’s Credit card information to sell. The Client will then call me and often the system is so messed up that I have to reload the OS and missing applications plus my time and the total cost to the Client is often well over $1,000.

I have been looking for software that will block these poisoned websites. The only one that I have found that looks like it will work is Threatlocker. While a good product, the company has its head in the wrong place as far as setting up resellers. I am a reseller and have been in business for over 28 years and have had many vendor relationships. These folks want us to sign both an End User Agreement (that makes me responsible for the way that my Clients use their software) plus they want me to sign a Partner Agreement. In my mind I cannot be both and certainly will not agree to be the end user.

Back to what I am asking help on is the automatic install of the malware off of the poisoned website. Perhaps a browser “setting” to ask for an override button option to be able to install software on the system. If I chose this in the Firefox Settings it will take an action on the part of the user to override the automatic install. In fact, if we could add to the option a number of times (and maybe a message, like CALL BILL before you proceed) that the override button has to be pressed to do the install. The more I can get the user to think, the better it will be for them and the more they will appreciate Firefox and me. No other browser has any feature like this.

I manage SCCM in my environment, and have been successfully offering Firefox ESR for a while now, along with silent updates when new versions are released.

Today I realised that not all of my users are using the ESR version from the Software Centre (90.10.0), but have instead installed the normal version to their profile (ranging from 83.x.x to 101.x.x). These are clearly not being updated, and it's been flagged by security scans.

So, I'm looking for a way to remove them silently with a script that I can insert into the ESR deployment, and replace these unsupported versions.

Can anyone help me?

I have an issue on a Mac OS Server environment with home folders. The user's login to the MAC which authenticates to the Open Directory MAC server giving home folders to the logged-on users that reside on the server and not the local workstation. Users commonly use different computers to log in. What we're finding is that the users are increasingly getting the error message that a copy of firefox is open and firefox cannot open.

Removing the lock file solves the issue.

cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles/ cd uniqueid.default rm -rf .parentlock

Is there a way to avoid this? We have the most current version of FF installed.
