Dear Mozilla Firefox Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

We manage a network of workstations that frequently utilize the Mozilla Firefox browser. Recently, we have encountered a situation where many of our systems are showing vulnerabilities due to pending browser updates. The updates are being installed successfully; however, users often neglect to restart the browser, which is crucial for completing the update process and ensuring security.

To address this, we would like to inquire if there is an existing Group Policy that can be configured to automatically notify users when they need to restart their Firefox browser to apply the latest updates. Such a feature would greatly assist us in maintaining the security integrity of our workstations and ensuring that users are made aware of the importance of restarting their browsers when prompted.

If this functionality is not currently available, we would appreciate any insights on potential workarounds or future plans to incorporate such a feature.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your response.

Hi,

I installed Thunderbird 140.2.1 on WIndows 11 v25H2 with winget but it autoupdated to release version 144. I uninstalled release version 144, re-installed esr version and disabled Updates in Settings, but it auto-updated to release version. So I uninstalled one more time release version, installed esr 144, disabled Updates in Settings and I set up the registry key DisableAppUpdate at 1 but Thunderbird auto-updated again to release version 144.0

Please, can you tell me what can I do to prevent Thunderbird esr auto-updating to release version ?

Thanks.

THE ISSUE: When opening Firefox, (Attachment #1 - below) appears. Seems to have nothing to do with any reality . . . as when I check in SETTINGS (Attachment #2 - below). 1. So, who's telling the truth? 2. How do I stop the popup (Attachment #1) from making it's nagging, inaccurate appearance?

Hi there,

I'm using Thunderbird on Linux and would like to know if there is a timeline for when the official Flatpak will be switched from ESR to Release Channel. There was a mention in an article on the Thunderbird blog (https://blog.thunderbird.net/2025/03/thunderbird-release-channel-update/) about the release version being available as Flatpak "in the future" but since this was almost three months ago, I was wondering if there is an update regarding this.

I'm aware that I can either install Thunderbird manually or use the beta Flatpak (which already seems to be on release channel) but I would much prefer to use the stable Flatpak.

Thanks!

The last Firefox update to one of my Windows 10 machines was to 115 (which I thought was only for Win 7 & 8 installs). When I review the Help/About screen it is requesting an upgrade to 128, but 146 is the latest release. The ESR release for Win10 is 140.

After the latest (mid-December) Windows update destroyed so many things, including the sizing, movement, and display of Firefox windows, I'm freezing the automatic Microsoft update sequence, and installing the ESR 140 release as well.

Just trying to understand how Firefox determines which update level a browser will automatically download and install based on an existing, standard or ESR, release it finds installed.

Thank you.

I have a Thunderbird 32 bit version 128 running on Windows 10 Pro. 16 GB memory with 512 GB storage

I first like to know if I upgrade to 64 bit version of Thunderbird. Beside doing a backup of the 32 bit version what be the best way to backup. I planning on using onedrive to backup the data. Any suggestions there is there extension anyone can recommend?

Can I upgrade to 64 bit version without having to do anything?

The second thing please reference the image attached to this thread. As you noticed there a lot of folders in INBOX and in Drafts. I tried moving them but seems they are not relocating. I even tried copying to them to another folder.

Should I try upgrading thunderbird to 32 bit first? There so many folders and subfolders that I don't think thunderbird can handle moving that much data.

The person who setup this application does not have any computer background at all.

I appreciate anyone who can assist with this issue.

I would like to know, if there is a reason that the Thunderbird Flatpak still remains on a version published on July 7. Iam switching back to Thunderbird, because of the new Microsoft Exchange Feature.

Is there a Timeline for how the Flatpak updates are delayed or anything that can be done to push the current version into Flathub?

Ever since I stupidly let Thunderbird 'update' to 140.5esr 64bit the date format has been wrecked. The program now forces the plain weird US date format of Month-Day-Year. I hoped that this obvious error would be fixed but it's been rather a long time now and the problem - and IT IS A PROBLEM - hasn't been addressed. It looks like Thunderbird is following Firefox in making each version worse. Whilst I switched to Pale Moon long ago there is as yet no fork of Thunderbird. If I were still on Windows for internet use I would just install an older version alas I do not know how to do this on Linux (Q4os Trinity) PLEASE fix this problem. I am far from the first to point this massive mistake out.

I am genuinely grateful to the people who work on these projects but a little more effort on actually being able to use the programs would be a substantial advance.

Hello!

Currently we deploy Firefox via SCCM Package on our machines. The problem is, that Firefox currently only updates itself when you opened it once. This leads to all sorts of Vulnerability warnings etc.

At the moment these regkey settings in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox are configured: AppAutoUpdate (REG_DWORD) 0x00000001 (1) DisableAppUpdate (REG_DWORD) 0x00000000 (0)

These two are enough for the updates, when the user opened Firefox (and created a profile).

So we tried the information detailed on this page: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/toolkit/mozapps/update/docs/BackgroundUpdates.html

To achieve a 100% unattended update we added following Key: BackgroundAppUpdate (REG_DWORD) 0x00000001 (1) which yielded no results. Firefox stayed on his old Version (V131 for this example).

We also added pref("app.update.langpack.enabled", false) in the autoconfig.js File as kind of a 'hail mary' action (bc. the documentation wrote, that this setting should be disabled); but it still does not work.

We've been through this rabbit hole quite some times now, and researching it also yields inconclusive results. (answers like: you still need to start Firefox once, before it can update).

So, what are we missing/doing wrong? Is a true unattended Background Update even possible or is "start Firefox once to create a profile" still the only way to go?

Thanks in advance for your time & help
