Hello, I'm using the most recent version of Thunderbird on a desktop using Windows 11. Just this morning (Aug 11), all incoming email to all my four accounts are coming in with no subject or correspondents showing and when opened the email is not formatted in HTML, just plain text and lots of code. I have tried several fixes with no success: repair folders, turn off all add-ons and anti-virus protection, uninstalled and reinstalled software. Can you help, please? Thanks!

This just started happening today. The last message to come through normally was today (August 11) at 10:20 AM EST. Every other message today after that time came through as described in the subject of this post.

I am running Windows 10 Pro version 22H2 fully updated through the July 2025 updates. The Thunderbird version is 141.0 (64-bit). No new Thunderbird add-ons have been installed.

The columns for Subject and Correspondents are there, but they are blank for all my messages after 10:20 AM. The message body is like I said—it looks like I selected View|Message Source. I have both of my email accounts for Optimum and Gmail on Thunderbird. Optimum is POP and Gmail is IMAP. The Gmail message that I received a few minutes ago looks normal. The messages accessed on my Optimum webmail account look fine as well so it looks to me to be a Thunderbird issue.

I have tried the following:

1. Repaired the Inbox folder within Thunderbird.

2. Restarted Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

3. Exited Thunderbird, deleting the global-messages-db.sqlite file in my profile folder and restarting Thunderbird.

4. Exited Thunderbird, deleting the Inbox.msf file in my profile folder and restarting Thunderbird.

5. Reviewed all the Thunderbird settings—they looked OK.

6. Rebooted my computer.

7. Uninstalled Thunderbird via Control Panel|Programs and Features, then downloaded and installed the current version of Thunderbird from the official website.

I have uploaded a screenshot of what my Thunderbird screen currently looks like.

Thanks for any help.

I have made 3 attempts to add a thunderbird account to receive email from an old verizon.net account server. All have failed.

All three times, I got the message.

"Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration"

which is a remarkably ambiguous error message. It takes about 10 minutes for that message to appear.

I am able to log directly/independently into what I understand is the verizon server. But obviously I am doing something wrong.

Independently, I successfully added a thunderbird account for an outlook.com.

I will skip the verizon account for the time being. I have one other account to move the Thunderbird.

I successfully moved all three to Mac mail a few weeks ago, only to discover that I really don't like it for a variety of reasons, the most significant for me was that

     - I learned about IMAP
     - I couldn't delete messages, although IMAP on a mac creates the

illusion that I could.

There is nothing quite like seeing messages that I know have deleted, reappear marked as unread, right before my eyes.

Thoughts anyone?

My email from a third party domain is routed to both my gmail inbox and to my thunderbird client. The emails typically get received by thunderbird first, and I read them quickly because of the notification that comes up. However, these emails on thunderbird disappear as soon as they show up in my gmail inbox. Does anyone know how to prevent this? I haven't found any other similar issues on the support forums or other sources.

Running Thunderbird with three accounts on my desktop PC - two 'btinternet.com' accounts and one 'gmail.com' account. Inboxes have no more than 20 emails in them, as I delete unwanted ones and transfer others to various sub-folders ( In excess of 40 No.). Today I suddenly found that incoming emails on both bt accounts were not showing the subject or sender and the content is displayed in plain text (txt) format - no problem with the gmail account.

I have compacted and repaired the inbox folders but no difference. If I send a message from either of the bt accounts to the other the problem occurs, but if I send a message from either of the bt accounts to my gmail account, it goes through fine. I can receive bt emails fine on my laptop. I assume this is a thunderbird problem on my PC but not sure where to start - would be really grateful for any guidance.

Hello, I speak french therefore sorry for my english ! I have since 3 days, the impossibility to send a mail. I always receive an error message like this :

L’envoi du message a échoué. Une erreur est survenue lors de l’envoi de l’e-mail : erreur du serveur SMTP. Le serveur a répondu : bluewin.ch mailout-004.p.bluenet.ch Swisscom AG sc774: Blocklisting in effect.

This have been caused as I wanted to send a message to a list of more of 100 personn and the system of my provider (Swisscom Bluewin) blocked me.

I contacted them explained the situation and the have deleted the blocking list and if I go on the email of the provider Swisscom I am free to send message without problem.

BUT in Mozilla Thunderbird i am still blocked with the above mentioned error message !

I have controlled all my SMTP info and they are correct, I have try to disabled the Bitdefender security but no way it remains blocked.

My question is, is this blocking list only remaining in Mozilla Thunderbird and for how long time or someone can help me to cancel this blocking list in Mozilla Thunderbird ?

Many thanks in advance for your help

I have just upgraded my computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Due to hardware complications (e.g., new motherboard) I had this done at a shop. I took the computer in about noon on Wednesday, July 30. The upgrade to W-11 finally happened on Monday afternoon, August 11. During that period I received 83 emails to my Gmail account, which of course were not downloaded to Thunderbird, and also sent 13 -- all directly to/from the web Gmail site. Since the activation of W-11 I have received 19 emails and sent 6 -- still all directly from the web Gmail site. Due to additional hardware issues, my computer did not come home until this (Thursday, August 14) afternoon. After I got it hooked up, and running, I brought up Thunderbird. It has downloaded the 83 received + 13 sent, from 7/30 through 8/11, but not done anything with the 19 received + 6 sent emails since then. When I turned Thunderbird off and back on -- or the entire computer off and back on, it has repeated this behavior. Currently I have 332 (83*4) received messages sitting in my inbox, and 52 (13*4) sent messages sitting in my sent box.

What do I need to do, to stop it from repeating this 7/30-8/11 download; and more importantly /start/ downloading messages since then? I feel fairly confident that the timing of the switchover from W-10 to W-11 is not coincidental; and that there is something I need to do in Thunderbird under W-11, to correct this behavior.

All advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Franklin Coleman

I have had Thunderbird for decades and have donated a small amount twice to its maintenance. Now as a result of a password change and perhaps some setting change I was not aware of and then a uninstall and reinstall of Thunderbird 4 times, I have lost my archived e-mails (did not realize a profile had to separately be set up for archived folders) and lost about 1/2 of my old e-mails as well as all my sent e-mails. Now I CANNOT SEND OUT EMAILS through my desktop but can do so through my phone - thus nothing wrong with the provider Spectrum. So something has happened on my desktop to prevent sending out e-mails even though I can receive incoming e-mails. Thus nothing wrong with the password. Also, I temporarly shut down anitvirus and firewall but that did not remedy the situation. I spoke to spectrum technical support and nothing from their end. Also, I have the current ports and settings. I love the way Thunderbird looks and its utilities compared to Gmail and Outlook so hate to walk away from it at this point. I posted before and want to see if anyone else has a simple solution. Would appreciate any considered help. please.

I have Thunderbird 140.1.1esr (64-bit).

See the attached image. Just today emails started to show up oddly: 1) in the list view there is no subject or correspondent and 2) the message body begins with some message headers in text format and is followed by the HTML message source in text format (i.e. the message's HTML code).

I use an Earthlink POP3 server. These odd messages look fine when I access them via Earthlink's webmail interface. Even so, I suspect this is an Earthlink server issue, but maybe someone using a different email server has seen the same odd behavior?

In previous versions, there was a setting to download messages from the domain email server when you checked for email. This meant that it would reside on my HD, where I would retain a copy no matter what the email server did. When I replaced my PC, I moved to a newer version, but I cannot find a setting to do this, and my emails are being deleted by the server at some point (I wish to retain these.) How do I make this happen? I wouldn't think that this would be a big ask, which is why I don't understand why I no longer am seeing this setting.

Recently (last 5 days) Thunderbird 115.18.0 (64-bit) on Windows 7 Pro has started corrupting incoming email that is from commercial web sites containing rich content. The message comes in as a text representation instead of displaying HTML correctly. It also doesn't display the sender or the subject (empty boxes). Simple HTML and text based email comes in ok but the more elaborate email doesn't. I have checked these messages on my email service's web page and they display correctly there, but for some reason Thunderbird is unable to display the message correctly. I don't know if this version of TB is missing a codec for newer content but I would appreciate any help I can get to fix the problem. I did check receiving these same email messages using a different computer with Windows 10 and Thunderbird 140.1.x and it handles the incoming email correctly. Again Thunderbird on my Win 7 PC was handling everything correctly until about 4 or 5 days ago. I haven't made any changes to the profile to cause a difference.
