Hello I am new to Thunderbird I am an Outlook user

Is there a way to set up the same shortcuts in Thunderbird as in Outlook?

For example I would love to set "CTRL + E" to place a cursor on the search bar, just like in Outlook. I searched all over the internet and ChatGPT and cannot find how to do it. Is it possible to override the default shortcuts Thank you in Advance Gary

I run TBird 128.7.1 Under Win 11-64.

Yesterday, I started writing, and editing, a detailed message, and then clicked to Save it, planning further editing today.

A few minutes ago, I opened my Account's Drafts folder, but was unable to find the message after sorting the folder every which way. Next, I opened Local Folders Drafts, and found it empty.

At that point, I entered the message's Subject in the CNTL-K Search field, and found the message (Whew...!) but I still did not know where it was hiding, so, I clicked Show As List, and learned that the message was located in my Account's Drafts folder, just as it should be.

The good news is that I can complete the editing of the message. The bad news is that I am still unable to locate the message in Drafts directly. I must search for it using CNTL-K.

What might be causing this disappearing act? And how might I prevent it?

Many thanks,

Lothar

I have 4 messages in my inbox (IMAP not Gmail). They are all labelled "Later" and one of them has a second tag "Important". These labels just appeared after I started using Thunderbird as from last month (2025-01-01). I found out how they should be removed: "More"-"Labels"-"0 - Remove all labels" or just click to toggle.

Expected behavour: Click to toggle off, stay off. Choose "0 - Remove all labels", stay removed

Actual behavour: With the pop up window open the label is gone, but when it's closed or another message selected, the label is back again.

Please help

Attached images: 1: Message is selected, go to "More"-"Labels"-"0 - Remove all labels" 2: Label is removed - for now 3: click on another message, the label is back

For years when I shop online I have been manually moving order confirmation emails to a Local Folder called "Orders" so I can search them do e.g. reorder items. When I began using Thunderbird as a Gmail client, I continued the practice. But this isn't a Gmail-centric way of doing things, and I can't search my Thunderbird local folder when I'm accessing Gmail remotely on my phone.

So going forward I want to add the Gmail label "Orders" to each order confirmation email. But what do I do with my legacy Thunderbird Local Folder messages? I need some way to tell Thunderbird: 'For each message in this Local Folder, tell Gmail to label it with the Gmail label "Orders"'. Is there an easy way to do that? If not, is there some way I could harvest the Message IDs of the messages and run some script (perhaps one I have to write myself)?

There are >2,000 messages in the folder, so doing this by hand one-by-one is simply not a viable option. I'm happy to roll up my sleeves and do some scripting work though. Thanks for any advice, even if it is just "you're out of luck". :)

In Thunderbird's contacts, there's a "Search" link for each contact that'll pull up all the messages involving that contact. I love this. (Screenshot attached)

However, I don't see a way of accessing this easy search while in the mail pane of Thunderbird. Does anyone know if this is possible, or, if an alternative exists?

I'm using the Addon "Search for" (https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/search-for/), but it's not the same, since it'll only filter in the same folder you're already in. With Google I archive all my mail once I've handled it, so for this Addon to be useful I first have to go to "All mail," then find an email from this person again, then use the Addon.

Anyone have a better way of pulling up all the correspondence with a particular person?

Thank you!

Using Thunderbird into gmail. If you click on All Mail you get all your mail of course. It is difficult to find the originating folder. The header Locations only gives you the location All Mail which is useless. I guess you could go into gmail and fiddle with Tags and Folders but haven't tried. Anyone know an easy workaround. And of course we should all be clamoring for a fix

Whenever I search for a word in emails that I have in my mailboxes, Thunderbird displays the underlying HTML code of emails, rather than their formatted form. When I click on one of these, it displays correctly, i.e., formatted. This is very annoying, as the HTML can be quite long. See attachment of beginning of result for searching the word "libération".

Global search provides a single general text input from which to search. Near useless. I typed in a date, result includes hundreds of message, mostly having a few digits of the date somewhere in the msg body. F1 (help) is not context aware, so rather than focused help, that might provide some hints how to craft a detailed search from a single control, it takes us to the home page for documentation.

Also: seems this is clearly not the forum to get anything done, as my prior inquiry is now archived. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1353744#answer-1450482

Since December 2024 I've been unable to get current emails when I perform a search in Thunderbird. Often I search for emails from a particular sender. I know I've received something from that sender within a week or two. I'm frustrated to find the search function only returns email from many months ago, when I know for a fact I got an email from the particular sender 10 or even 2 days ago. The most recent emails are just not appearing in the search results. The problem started in the last week or two of December and has continued and compounded since. I had been hoping that it would clear itself up, but no amount of re-booting my computer or the program seem to be re-settting the archive that the search function looks through. I'm coming into the tax season and I really do need the search function to support me sift through and find the details I need from my clients. Help! Thank you! Jessica McKnight

Hi,

I make extensive use of saved searches in Thunderbird and find them extremely useful. However, I have not found a way of exporting/importing the searches, so when I set up a new install I have to start from scratch with the search folders. This can take quite a while.

Does anybody know a way to do this?

I have tried using the profile folders, but they do not seem to save the search properties.

Any help would be very welcome.

The entire web seems to be creepy beyond belief! The stock in trade is my life. I don't want you people spending your time trying to dream up ways to build the cheese that leads me into your maze. I just want to buy a product. I want that product to work for years. It should be reliable not flashy. Why is that so hard these days? When did we become people who would accept junk that needed to constantly be repaired after purchase? Why does an upgrade do exactly the same thing it's predecessor did, but more slowly and requiring more resources? Why can companies build something and then a few years down the road simply stop supporting it? Here in the US car companies were required to support their products for 15 years. As expensive as phones have become and as disruptive as changing operating systems is we need similar legislation in the tech industry. Google needs to be broken up and not be the hub of the internet. No matter where I go in the net my browser always goes to google first. That's just creepy. So please someone just offer a product that doesn't make me a product by it's use.

Hi, I'm not good with computer speak so please answer in simple English. Also, I'm sending a picture to help me explain. The "Inbox" in my picture is what my Thunderbird says is in my gmail.com labels. Only it does not list all of them. I deleted some labels in gmail and they were also deleted in the Thunderbird list. Then I added a couple labels in gmail and only 1 is listed in Thunderbird, the other is not. I tried closing both programs and added a couple more labels in gmail, nothing in Thunderbird. How do I get Thunderbird to recognize all of the labels in gmail? Right now in gmail there are 6 labels, I doubt there will be too many more in the future. Let's see, yes Thunderbird is up to date, have a Dell computer with Windows 8.1. Yes, I know that it is old and it's what I like and am used to, so that's what I'm staying with. Thank you, Bernadine
