I refreshed my Firefox but the bookmark file the Help Document said would be in the Old Firefox data folder is not there. As you can see in the image I do not have a file called "places.sqlite". I only refreshed Firefox under the indication that I would not lose any of my bookmarks (they would be saved and I could get them back).

I had many bookmarks. Are they lost now?

My firefox was running slow so I shut it down from task manager. When I opened it back up i got a pop up saying something about a refresh I wasn't thinking and click yes and it wiped everything off my browser. I tried looking in the options and saw no way to retrieve my data from my account which I thought was suppose to be backed up to my account. Why else would I be syncing to an account. So after that failed. I tried system restore to earlier that day. When I opened firefox everything was still gone. I then went back 4 days way before the refresh. Still firefox bookmarks and everything else was gone. I saw in a youtube video where you can find a back up on you computer and replaced the profile it gave me a error about profile can't be loaded. So I reinstalled firefox and still got the same error. I've tried reinstalling it like 10 times now.

Aside from needing more RAM, I see that a first step is to refresh Firefox. I see it saves quite a bit, but I don't know what I'll be losing.......it says I will lose These items and settings will be removed:

   Extensions and themes
   Website permissions
   Modified preferences
   Added search engines
   DOM storage
   Security certificate and device settings
   Download actions
   Toolbar customizations
   User styles

I don't know what DOM storage is, and if I don't have a security certificate, is that what allows me to go to sites ? I'm hesitant to refresh 'blindly' and then learn afterwards that some crucial changes were made on the refresh and now I can't visit sites I presently can

A message appeared saying that Firefox was opening slowly and it suggested that I click a "Refresh" button. I did this and it changed my Firefox layout completely. I very much liked the previous layout with the "Find in Page" choice and box, the choice between opening a new tab or a new window (I prefer windows to tabs), etc. I am going to switch browsers unless there is a way to return to the previous Firefox layout. By the way I downloaded and installed the ESR version and also Firefox 59.03 and with both I got the new, horrible layout. Further the annoying "Pocket" and sponsored pages, etc. material, which I had deleted, returned. On top of this I am mad that the "Firefox is opening slowly" message did not state that clicking "Refresh" would change my entire page layout.

After Firefox latest update and MS 1803 update to windows 10 both on Sat. 09 06 18, my firefox data has disappeared completely. Looks like a completely new install. Is there a way to recover some of it . Log-ins/passwords are the most important and bookmarks would be good, anything else I can adapt.. Would a system restore do any good or is there a simple way to revert to a prevoius version of FF. I stress (simple) as I am a basic user. Any advice would be appreciated. Recently, Firefox updated itself and I started having problems. The most annoying one is that it creates a new default profile and replaces my existing one every once in a while. It seems to happen every week or so. I copy over my addtional profile files, but it keeps happening. Three family members use the PC, but I seem to be the only one affected.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstalled a fresh copy of Firefox, but no luck. Any ideas?

Regard...John

A message showed up when I opened FireFox saying "your Mozzila is running slooow refresh your Mozzilla today. So I did the refresh. I now have lost bookmarks and settings. Also the sync I did with the program weeks ago no longer works AND WORST OF ALL You Added Add-Ons I DIDN'T Need or Want without even asking. So Now I have to spend a bunch of time getting it set up the way I liked It. Or maybe Not. Is definitely time to find a new BROWSER!

Flash player problems on a game I play through Zynga. Even though I have flash player set up and updated, the game continues to say I need flash player. I have tried everything and then made the mistake of refreshing Firefox without saving. No warning was given that I would be losing all bookmarks. I even looked in the desktop file titled Old Firefox and nothing for today's refresh was showing. Please advise if there is a way to restore my bookmarks. We are talking about a lot of bookmarks lost!

Hello all. Firefox was running slow so I did the refresh and restore as directed. Now I notice that I have no more bookmarks like I did before. When I follow the instructions from the Troubleshooting Information and find my profile it will not open. When I find the places.sqfile, also will not open. When I find the bookmarks......jsonlz file, I cannot open it. Do I need some kind of extension? Are the bookmarks obviously lost for good? Am I looking in the wrong place? There seems like there should be an easy solution to this however when I root around for answers I just get more lost. I appreciate any help. Thanks! Best, dcb

Hello,

Because of some problems I am having with Firefox, I refreshed it. However, that made things worse. I noticed that Firefox made an "Old Firefox Data" folder. Can I assume, then, that there is a way to use that old info to restore Firefox? If there is, please let me know.

I looked in your knowledge but couldn't find anything to unrefresh Firefox.

TIA, kk

Hi! I refreshed Firefox to fix a slowness issue, and all my tabs have disappeared.

I first tried copying "previous" "recovery.bak" and "recovery" directly under the new profile, then later copied the three available upgrade.js files, as well. When that didn't work, I also copied the entire sessionstore-backups folder to overwrite the one in my new profile, but that also didn't work.

I don't really know much about browsers, I'm afraid, so I may have misunderstood some of the intructions I've read elsewhere. Anyone have any idea what I could have done wrong? I closed firefox before copying and then reopened it every time, btw. Thanks in advance!
