After changing my personal gmail password Thunderbird wanted to verify but got "400. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."
The process worked on another PC on version 140.2.1esr but not on my desktop using version 140.3.....
How can I revert my desktop to version 140.2.1esr?

Unfortunately my laptop crashed with windows 10 on it. I have since had it fixed with windows 11 installed. However when I try to sign in to my Sky email account through Thunderbird (imap.tools.sky.com) my password fails. I have signed into my sky email separately (they use Yahoo) with the same password and the same password works fine so I can get into my email account with no problems that way. I am now stuck as I am using the correct password but Thunderbird is saying that the login has failed. So I am asking how can I solve this.

I've been using Thunderbird 140 esr on Windows 10. I got a new computer with Windows 11 and decided to go to the Release channel for Thunderbird which is at version 142. When I try to set up my ATT/Yahoo account, it fails "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." If I go to the manual setup, the authentication method I used for TB 140 on Win 10, OAuth2, isn't one of the options. How do I get that option back? I tried unticking the Create Accounts in the new Account Hub, but that didn't help. I also tried uninstalling 142 and installing 140 esr on my Win 11 box. It has the same problem: No OAuth2 option.

I have multiple gmail accounts set up on Thunderbird. They were all working fine until I traveled overseas and came back. Then, all of a sudden, 1 gmail account stopped working. The rest kept working fine. I checked the settings and they were correct. I removed the account and tried to set it up again (about 10 times), but kept getting the same error message: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." The automatic configuration passed and I even tried manually configuring to the recommended settings to no avail.
The only thing I can think of is that when traveling overseas and trying to get online, Thunderbird and/or Gmail asks for further security verification, and I just avoided using Thunderbird altogether while abroad. Upon my return, I started getting this error message. It is extremely inconvenient to have to use the Gmail interface for only 1 email (my main email!). Does anybody know anything I can do to repair this? I'm almost tempted to use another email client altogether to make my life more efficient as the new setup is not sustainable.

I was using Thunderbird email client software quite happily for several hours, when it suddenly gave the message for one of my accounts: "We can't sign you in Your browser is currently set to block cookies" (it isn't!!!!)
I have tried deleting the email account and re-instating, but I get the message during that process. Using: Windows 11 Home Thunderbird v 140.2.0esr (64-bit)
The account works perfectly on Office 2019 on my laptop and via Aquamail on Android.
Help, please.

Hello,
Thunderbird 142.0 - to add a mail a/c - auto add fails to login and no manual setup seems available.
Simultaneously login passes to an Outlook e-mail with a written password available. Thunderbird auto seems unable to pass that and so fails to add Outlook e-mail. All commentary welcome. Colin DB
I forgot a password for one of my accounts. The PWs I have are all incorrect. I need a new pw.

Hi,
I am trying to setup Thunderbird for the first time on my mac (OS Sequoia 15.6.1). No problem with E-mail clients except the hotmail client. I am always stuck at this error message that authentication failed after I type in my password. I added manually an outgoing server for microsoft as described in some older post but I am unable to find to setup IMAP manually in the Thunderbird account settings. I believe I will have only the option to do so after I pass the authentication error. I also added some exception as recommended in some older forum post but it also didn't help.
Any suggestion what could solve the problem?

After downloading Thunderbird for Android onto my mobile, I imported email accounts and settings (all, including passwords) from the desktop´s Thunderbird to the phone´s Thunderbird by scanning the desktop´s QR codes.
I got all the accounts and messages onto the mobile but not the primary password. On the desktop I still have to log into Thunderbird but not so on the mobile. There is also no way to set a primary password in Thunderbird for Android since it only displays General Settings.
Thunderbird for Android does receive emails so it seems to know the passwords to the servers.
I have the newest versions of Windows 10 and Android.
Any help on how to import or set the primary password in Thunderbird for Android would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there Thunderbird Community,
I am first time user of Thunderbird, and I am using version 140.2.0esr (64-bit).
I have been trying to connect my Gmail account, and it keeps on giving me this error that I have seen on other threads: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."
From the other threads, I tried to do the troubleshooting suggested:
- cleared the cookies associated with Google - added https://account.google.com as an Exception for Cookies and to always allow - disabled Account Hub since it seems to have issues from what I read on another thread - changed my Google account password - tried another Gmail account with no success - tried various Thunderbird versions, uninstalling the old one before reinstalling the new one: Thunderbird Release (Recommended), Thunderbird Extended Support Release (current version being used), and Thunderbird Beta. I have not tried Thunderbird Daily.
I have added Google OAuth screen-by-screen images of what I saw before getting the Thunderbird client error message.
Any ideas?
Thanks! James

Login to server pop.earthlink.net with username professor[hidden for privacy]@earthlink.net failed.
Retry - Enter New Password - Cancel are the choices presented.
Obviously my primary email server is Earthlink Webmail, which in turn I redirect to use Thunderbird as my mail reading and filing system for my messages. Webmail is simply too cumbersome for daily use. No matter.
I have two email accounts with Webmail, both redirected to TB. I use a particular password for the Webmail server, which in turn I needed to set up a flow-thru account to TB. No problems there for the past 10 years or so.
Suddenly beginning last week, these infernal gray box error messages began appearing throughout the day. Now they popup every 2 or 3 minutes!
I have double and triple checked my Webmail passwords to insure they are correct. I have also attempted on NUMEROUS occasions to use the optional tab ENTER NEW PASSWORD, into which I have typed the password again. I check the box that asks "Use Password Manager to remember this password." in hopes that TB will somehow remember the correct PW. No Luck whatsoever.
To prove my point, during the time it has taken me to type this message, the popup has appeared no less than 6 times thus far, and I am not even finished with my question.
Actually - opps, there it is again - I am finished with the question. What I am desperately seeking is how to disable this damned error message once and for all, or to input whatever information it needs to simply disappear.
Thanks to you all for putting up with my frustration. I only hope it doesn't happen to you, 'cause it will drive you NUTS!
Thanks again,
Lenny

I have multiple e-mail accounts set up in Thunderbird including two different Fastmail accounts. All of them continue to work fine, but I keep seeing a pop-up window asking me to log into Fastmail. I just close the window but it re-opens a few minutes later. The account continues to work in Thunderbird fine.
This happens for only one of my two Fastmail accounts. The account has been set up in Thunderbird for years and I've only recently begun seeing this window.

When I try to add my Outlook account, the authentication process requires a password input rather than redirecting to Microsoft’s OAuth2 login flow. My Outlook account is configured as passwordless, meaning I typically sign in via Microsoft Authenticator, biometrics, or a security key. I have already tried deleting and recreating my Thunderbird profile, but the issue persists. Since this is my first time adding this Outlook account, there is no existing outgoing server (SMTP) entry for Outlook in Thunderbird’s list. I attempted to manually configure the SMTP server (smtp.office365.com, port 587, oauth2), but the same password prompt appears, and I cannot proceed.
