Greetings: Running TBird desktop with email provider Fidei. The email portion works fine (can send & rcv emails)...but upon accessing any of the other features, like Calendars or Lists...the content appears for a moment, then the Login dialog pops & my content for that feature goes blank. I'm providing (what I believe are the correct credentials) but it appears not to accept them...popping again. Are there separate credentials I should be providing for the other features of TBird? It didn't used to behave this way. Thanks in advance for any feedback/guidance. Ed in Tampa

I have the thunderbird app on my Linux SSD I set up Thunderbird all went fine when I installed my outlook account, I also have windows 11 so I booted into windows installed Thunderbird there and when I add the same account that i used on the linux. For some reason it wont let me sign in it gives me an account credentails error then send me to microsoft to sign in another way, the recovery email address is not the same as the one I have signed into linux on. I checked the password and recovery email I created and Im able to sign in the password is fine and the recovery email is as well. The thunderbird I installed on windows the account I am trying to add the recovery email is someone elses account not mine for recovery and its saying the password is wrong. I have outlook on my windows desktop and can sign in to that account I even signed out and back in again perfect. I checked the recovery email and password on microsoft web site for outlook and my account credentails are fine. I cant figure this out. It works fine on linux and the shortcut I have on my windows for outlook. But wont allow me to set it up on Thunderbird I installed on my windows. Why is it that thunderbird worked fine setting up on linux with my account but not on windows... I did delete microsoft edge a week or so ago I was wondering if that could be why I dont know.

I migrated my Thunderbird installation to a new computer. The installation has 25 email accounts and is now requiring passwords be entered for each account including a couple of gmail accounts.

It was my understanding passwords would be migrated when using the export/import tool within Thunderbird. Is this not so?

Do I now need to change passwords for all email accounts? (because, of course these may have been written down years ago but cannot be located at this time. :-( ) Or, is there some way of restoring the email account passwords?

      • side note: The migration was not seamless but mostly due to my own ignorance. When using the export/import tool from one Linux machine to another I found the following:

- Thunderbird versions must be the same on both computers - After export, file on USB drive was only accessible by root on new computer - export zip file needed to be copied to user account on new computer (from within root account) and ownership changed to [user]: -R (I imagine you could just change ownership on the USB but this seemed easier)

I need to fix TB to send/receive/save emails after a power failure today, Grid outage at 13:40, Power restored 13:40. Computer restarted, TB opened but will not perform any send/receive/save tasks. TB Message Send gets Outlook notification - Authentication failure. Went to Outlook email, logged back in, test email I had attempted to send by TB is in Outlook, plus new emails in Outlook, but none in TB. Checked for TB updates, current as of Jan 15, 2026. Restarted computer twice. Outlook email works but TB does not perform any tasks. I lost no TB emails in my messages before the power failure, they are all still in my TB messages. I have Firefox Browser and Windows 11. I love TB. It has had cardiac arrest. Help. Ann

Have no idea to whom I was chatting a week or so ago, but outlook.office365.com was recommended to me as the incoming server setting for Outlook.com. Set TB that way and used it for a week or so. TODAY got a "failure to authenticate" error from TB (have had many such errors before). Went directly to Copilot, as I thought it would be the most authoritarian place to clear up Microsoft problems. It provided the informaiton below: Official Outlook.com Thunderbird Incoming Server Settings (2026) IMAP (recommended) Settings Server name: imap-mail.outlook.com Port: 993 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication; OAuth2 Username; Your full Outlook.com email address

Why this is the correct server Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and MSN accounts do not use outlook.office365.com .

Set outlook account incoming server to imap-mail.outlook.com and reset TB Immediately got: Mozilla Thunderbird Thunderbird Authentication failure while connecting to server imap-mail.outlook.com.

Can someone please tell what's going on?

This morning, I repeatedly received an "Authentication failed when connecting to outlook.office365.com" error. I removed the Outlook account from Thunderbird hoping to solve this by reconnecting and starting from scratch. Upon entering my email and password, my configuration is successfully located in the Mozilla database, but upon selecting the IMAP configuration and after a brief password check, I received the error message "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". Is this an issue on Outlook's end, or is something not set up properly?

My Hotmail account suddenly stopped working today (was working yesterday). Thunderbird shows a popup saying authentication failed, but doesn't ask me to try a different password (not that I changed it recently).

The error details are only visible in Error Console:

I've read everything apropos here, tried everything, and I'm lost--and totally screwed--if I can't get into my old Thunderbird. Spectrum, computer died, nobody competent here to get past "Registry Error," I guess, but I need all the data, contacts, calendar, etc., in the T'bird I've relied on for MANY years. PLEASE help. I tried to get a screen grab: It didn't work.

This is the second time I've appealed for help.

Hi,

I'm using a google provided email (but it's not gmail) which is provided by my school. When I try to set up my email, everything works fine, Thunderbird detects the settings. When I try to log in I get the error message "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". If I go though the settings the authentication method is "normal password" when it should be "oauth2" but that option is missing. The pop-up to log in to my Google Account to authorize the app does NOT appear no matter what.

I've had this issue multiple times in the past (as I change schools) and I was able to solve it once. In my Windows install I changed some flag in the Config Editor (and I forgot which) and the following time I tried to add the account the Google authentication pop up appeared. Do note that the outlook app (new one and classic) sets up the account just fine without me having to configure or change anything.

So right now I have Thunderbird able to access that account on Windows, but I can't get my install in Nobara (Fedora based) to do so because (I think) the Google authentication pop up doesn't open so that I can go to the account and allow the specific Thunderbird install to use the email.

I've also tried 4 or 5 other email clients available in Flatpost and none are able to trigger the Google pop up thing. I don't think the issue is the OS because I had the same exact issue with thunderbird on Windows until I changed some flag in the Config Editor.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me out, i've spent hours scouring the internet for options and (unfortunately) nothing has worked so far and I've been unable to find the instruction with the flag I need to follow that fixed my issue the other time.

Hello, I am reaching out to request assistance in recovering access to the following email address: <redacted>@football-sapeurs-pompiers.fr. Following the theft of my laptop, which had an automatic login enabled, I am no longer able to access this account. Unfortunately, I do not have the password saved, and no one within the association is able to provide it. The standard "forgot password" procedure is currently not working for me. Could you please advise on how I can reset the password so that I can set up this email inbox on my new computer? I am available to provide any necessary identification or proof of my role within the association to facilitate this request. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards,
