Immediately after updating TB to Version 78.4 my email accounts with Earthlink and Comcast ISP's stopped functioning (incoming and outgoing). I have used TB for over 5 years and been running IMAP on all my email accounts with previous versions of TB without any issues. After trying fixes found on support forums (i.e. changing config setting security.tls.version.min from 3 to 1) I was able to get my Comcast accounts working but not my Earthlink account (which is my primary account). After 1 1/2 hours with Earthlink Tech support, I was told I needed to reinstall TB with the previous version that worked. For me this is unacceptable. Why use a specific Email client if new versions do'nt work with my ISP's or I need to tweak config files. This should all be transparent to the user. Can anyone help me with fixing my problem. Thanks.

Hi, Probably it's an easy question, but still, it's an issue for me. I have just created a thunderbird account. Everything it's working perfect, but I can't log out. I just want when leaving office to log out and when coming back to log in. Unfortunately I can't do that. I have tried the exit button on the attached picture, but still. I will be very thankful if someone helps me.

Best regards

Thunderbird says "Connected to imap.gmail.com..." but then hangs. Worked great until (unrequested) upgrade to version 78 Windows 10, T'bird 78.4.0 (32-bit)

I can get mail fine by logging into Gmail, or on phone. Problem must be with this new version of T'bird. Tried changing firewall and disabling eset; no difference

Thanks for any help!!!

I'm running Win10 and TB ver. 78, recently updated. I am no longer able to receive or send emails. When I logon, nothing happens, and when I try to send a test message, I get this msg:

"Sending of the message failed. Peer’s certificate has an invalid signature. The configuration related to xxxxxxx.com must be corrected".

I have contacted the email hosting service regarding this error message, they swear it ain't them, and the interesting part is that I'm able to receive and send emails from my hand phone. From this, I conclude that the problem must reside with TB, maybe there's a problem with Ver. 78??

I'm not a computer buff and will be grateful for any help.

Thank you in anticipation.

I have started getting alerts from Norton 360 regarding "malicious browser extension activity 4" from a website called https://tribedone.org. I have no idea what the website is (I can't reach it) but the alert is showing very often and Norton requires a shutdown each time it detects and repairs the issue. Any suggestions please? Is there a problem with the forum software? Last answers are mentioned in the bottom line of the questions but they are not displayed and they are not counted in the top line. This is inconsistent information. Example the question "embedded grafics are not displayed" which counts 0 answers in the topline but mentions a last answer 18 minutes ago. But this last answer is not displayed, if one opens the question.

Now iOS let’s you set different default browsers I was hoping it would be possible to then open links in the gmail app with Firefox. However when you try to select a default browse within the gmail app Firefox doesn’t even appear on the list, even if you have it installed and set as the system default - the only options it presents are chrome or safari...am I missing something or is this just an issue with the gmail app either awaiting an update or trying to force me to use chrome?

I have 2 email accounts associated with thunderbird.

I removed one of them. When removing it, it asked me if i wanted to remove all data. I did not select the check box, meaning I did not want it to remove the email messages in the local folder.

Now, the messages are gone. Why?

If I upload a file for an email attachment, google drive upload, etc when I first select "browse" for the file it opens File Explorer in the Desktop directory.

How do I change that to default to the directory I always work from, say for example C:\tmp.

I've seen numerous questions about this with answers that it opens the last directory used, which is true if I do it multiple times, but if I close Firefox and restart it, when I select "browse" it again defaults to the Desktop.

I've also seen answers saying it is controlled by the site being uploaded true. Again this is absolutely not true. I do everything from C:\tmp. Downloads, uploads, editing, searching, etc. And every time I upload a file after starting Firefox fresh after a reboot, again, it defaults to the Desktop even though I'm on the same site (gmail) I was when I last uploaded a file.

As far as the answers saying that was the last directory used, that is false. I do not use the desktop for anything. Not storing icons, not downloading files, not uploading files. I have never uploaded a file from Desktop in my life.

So can anyone answer this without saying 'last directory used' or 'controlled by the website'?

I just upgraded to ver 78 and can no longer download messages from my yahoo (ATT) account. I get a message that sending my password did not succeed. I am still able to send messages, and I've gone into options and verified that my passwords are still correct. My server settings are;

POP Mail Server pop.att.yahoo.com Port 995 fall072@att.net SSL/TLS Normal password

Don't know if this matters, but ATT made a change a while back requiring a 'Secure mail key' which changed my smtp password, but this is also still correct in my settings. The link below describes this change https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/email-support/KM1240462?gsi=6ka96l

If no one has a fix for this, is there a way I can download ver 68 and revert back? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Woody

I've been using the newly redesigned Thunderbird and have a number of problems with it. Chief among them is the lack of apparent involvement by human factors experts when it comes to the design of the windows seen by the user of the tool and to the communication to customers about changes. Your programmers seem to have made the mistake that my programmers used to make back when I had a lot of them reporting to me - they do things that seem fine to young people but are not fine for older people. For example, when I am sending a new email it is very hard to read some of the commands and options because the text appear to be light grey instead of DARK BLACK against a white background (perhaps it is just that it is not bold when it ought to be), and the fonts are often quite small. This may seem fine to the 20-year-olds who are developing this software, but it is a real problem for the 76-year-olds like myself who try to use it. It took me several days of hard work to finally see how to add a "cc" to an email under your new system.

To complicate matters, the changes were introduced with no notice and no information about how to do relatively simple things (such as including a cc in an email!). And when I searched your web site for help I could find no place to make suggestions for improvement or to point out problems, only places where I could ask questions and hope the automated help system would come up with something that matched my problem.

So, to repeat, is there any way to communicate suggestions for improvement to those responsible for Thunderbird?

Thunderbird 78.4.0 (32-bit) gets mail at startup (which I have shut off) and gets mail by itself, periodically (which I shut off). I have NEVER been able to just start Thunderbird without it getting mail from at least one account. I have NEVER been able to shut off getting emails at some pre-set interval.

I am running the latest version of Windows 10, 64 bit, but have had this problem for well over 10 years on other versions of Windows. What do I need to do in the Windows registry or an .ini file to stop Thunderbird from automatically checking (and downloading) email.?

I wish I'd known the new version for android was going to strip out all the addons. I didn't see that in any "new features" documents. How can anybody trust Mozilla at this point? I won't be updating my tower for this reason. You can't even depend on Mozilla to put important details like this in the release notes. At the very least, they should have a way to revert back to the older version.

Mozilla doesn't seem to care what their users want. They just do whatever. Time to start trying different browsers.
