I have been using Thunderbird email for numerous years.

At the end of June (2021) I started a summer-long vacation in another state, and prepared a laptop (Win 10) computer for the trip (with Thunderbird installed, of course.

Around July 5th I tried to peruse my email using Thunderbird on the laptop and was unsuccessful.... Zoho kept rejecting my email account password(s).... "login to server imap.zoho.com with username xxxx@xxxxx.com failed" (see attached)

I had the same issue with my account at gmail.com (Google mail) using Thunderbird. I have no other email accounts.

I assumed I had made some sort of mistake in the Thunderbird account settings on the laptop, but I had no way to compare the settings to my home computer (nobody there at my home and I was away on an extended trip)

Zoho was unable to assist me with Thunderbird. I assumed I did something wrong when I configured Thunderbird on the laptop and tried numerous parameter alterations without success.

I am able to access my email accounts at Zoho when I go to zoho.com directly, but compared to Thunderbird their interface is unwieldy and doesn't allow much screen space for email content (and, of course, I'm not able to save read emails to my Thunderbird local accounts).

I just returned from my extended trip and find that I now have the same issues on my home desktop computer, which was working fine when I left the last week of June. It (Thunderbird on my home desktop computer) also, rejects logins to my email accounts at Zoho and at Googlemail. Strangely, I can read new emails in the Thunderbird email accounts, but I am unable to reply to them or forward them.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that an automatic update caused these issues. In fact, my home computer has a Thunderbird icon on the desktop that I'm not certain was there before (I keep most of my important program icons in program category folders on my desktop and in my quick-access bar at the bottom of my Win 10 desktop screen... so if an icon shows up on my desktop, I assume it is because of a product update). I am currently at Thunderbird 78.14.0 (64-bit).

I am trying to think of ways I can verify that an automatic update caused the issue.

I am able to log in to my email accounts by directly using zoho.com or google.com, but much prefer Thunderbird. I am hoping for suggestions as to why neither of my Thunderbird copies (desktop and laptop) are able to log in to receive email.

Thoughts and suggestions????

When I go to some video websites and click the play button, I see the little circular thing in the image are spinning, indicating that the video is loading. But it never stops and it never plays. Also, the pause button does not have any effect; the loading indicator keeps spinning. Example website: "https://proclassictv.com/" (both with "The Rifleman" and "My Favorite Martian" episodes. I've tried this on a few of the videos available there. Same result. I've tried this with add-ons enabled and with add-ons disabled (current session). I've seen this in a few other websites also. I don't know if the problem is my system, Firefox, or the host website.

I am able to view youtube videos with no problems.

How do I get the videos to play?

Hello! Something in my Firefox installation seems to be making several Google network (google.com / forcesafesearch.google.com / www.youtube-nocookie.com / m.youtube.com, and a couple of others) calls shortly after launch. I have a DNS sinkhole, so that is how I can see.

I have a few reputable extensions (or should be, from EFF, Firefox itself, or Ublock Origin), but it also happens in safe mode. I went through a good chunk of this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-making-automatic-connections and still the calls occur

I am on Windows 10, with FF v93.

It took years to perfect my userchrome to make FF look exactly how I want. Once 91+ came out it wasn't even a question of fixing the floating tabs and condensing the height and menu spacing (though I tried all of it) but my own codes stopped working properly - I had code to set the background colour of menus/bookmark menus and when I upgrade they were the right colour but with thick white borders around them. This was more important to me than the floating tabs and I immediately downgraded to 90 where I've stayed. Can anyone help me figure out how to get MY codes to work with 91+ and/or to work together with the other fixes out there (tabs, condensed menus etc)??

bold textI have really become disillusioned with this email program, which I have used for many years on my Windows computers.

I have 5 email addresses; 3 of those were rendered inaccessible with the June update to Thunderbird; only the first and last addresses work now (or did, until today's update: 91.3.2, see below). Four email identities are handled by Zoho.com, the 5th is a gmail account. If I shift the order of the email accounts in Thunderbird, again only the first and last accounts are able to log into email, the others are rejected as having incorrect passwords.

The correct passwords are stored in Thunderbird, they are again rejected when re-entering them as requested by Thunderbird.

I have been screwing around with this issue for 5 months and have not been able to resolve it. I also have 2 laptops with Thunderbird installed. Regrettably all 3 computers were set for automatic updates to Thunderbird, and all have had the same issue since June, despite no changes/alterations on my part.

Today I updated to the latest release (91.3.2) on my desktop computer. I don't recognize the initial user screen now. Thunderbird only displays one of my email accounts, dunno what happened to the other 4 which are still in Account Settings. Also, my access to local folders is gone with this new release (or at least not obvious... all accounts and local folders used to appear on the left column).

I have no idea of how to revert to earlier Thunderbird releases, and my research has not revealed that secret.

Thunderbird has gone downhill in a hurry these past 5 months, and I haven't found a way to fix it. I would switch to another email product except that my Thunderbird local folders of saved emails would be gone forever (actually, this latest update may have rendered them inaccessible, so that issue may be moot).

Aaarrgghh, why are these people screwing up a perfectly good product??? At the very least, they could provide a way to save the prior version of the users' Thunderbird (and the users settings/preferences) before destroying it, maybe even make that save/restore a mandatory part of the update.

Just for grins I clicked on "Events and Tasks/Export" a moment ago... nothing happened.

Seen I had taken backup (of profiles located under appdata (both local and roaming maps), I restored them over the newly created thunderbird profiles (to get back all the maps that was created before). But of course it only restores back till, in my case 28 june 2021. So my question how can I get mail from the mail server between 28 june and 16 november (requesting to send mails not deleted on the mail server between those 2 dates). Recent mails between 16 november and today are retrieved from (private) mail server Thanks

Seems Google is forcing everyone to switch to 2 step verification from Nov 9. This is causing me a major headache. I am now really confused!!! I have several google accounts linked to Thunderbird - what does this mean for me? What -if anything - will I have to change in Thunderbird? Will I have to do this every time I check my email? I have one of the accounts on my mobile - others are linked to different mobile numbers. I really don't want to download the google app or associate some of them with mobile numbers....

(Not as dodgy as that sounds....google contacts has a tendency to share contacts between devices/accounts. I now use the Firefox addon multi-account containers before it was a nightmare!).

I don't want people's email addresses in my phone contacts -so I have a gmail account just to back up my phone contacts.  Also the small charity I work for has a shared gmail account and  for the same reason a mobile phone backup account with no email ...as the phone is shared and not password protected- then I have a couple of other email addresses for the charity - for things that are private or for special events eg event registrations -otherwise our inbox gets clogged -even with filters in place!  )     

I am now actively looking for a web based alternative to Gmail (not outlook/.hotmail -I already have those which forward to a single gmail) ...and trying to work out how the 2step verification is going to work for our shared gmail account (s). I'm really not happy about this!!!

This is probably a FAQ, although I can find no mention of the question using the search facility, so here goes...

I am just starting to use Thunderbird for my Usenet groups, having finally given up on Forte Agent. I don't seem to be able to find a way to define a filter to run across all subscribed groups - if I define it to operate on the news server (tweaknews) then it doesn't work on ANY of the groups. Surely I'm not expected to define the same filter for every single group, individually? What am I missing?

How do I enter whitespaces in Thunderbird filter rules, e.g.

I have tried the following:

None work. If I delete the whitespace then test the rule it works fine.

I am using Tbird 78.14.0 on Ubuntu 21.04.

This seems a very basic question. Needless to say there is no answer on line.

My situation is that I'm receiving around 50-100 spam a day to different accounts. And there's the false classification problem on top of it.

So I'd like to set up rules that weeds out the spam folder - to some extent. Eg anything sent form a .ru address (plenty of those) can be deleted immediately. And I do NOT want to keep these in the trash either.

I know it's not directly possible (hello missing feature) but would the retention rules just maybe delete the if these were sorted into another (say 'russianJunk') folder? Or is the retention policy just another 'move' type operation (i.e. move to trash, not delete)?

Thru trial and error, i learnt that i click Menu->history->Clear history and then it works.

I have reset firefox and still it does not work. 94.0.01(64-bit version) is what i am running.

Driving me nuts..

I cannot find any way to report problems, this seems to be the only way. When I try to open any PDF file, I have to Browse to find my pdf viewer (Flexipdf 2022). I do that and also check your "Do this automatically" option. Every time I try to open a pdf after that I still have to go through all the same Browse steps. I also set up Flexipdf 2022 in the Applications section of General Settings (Portable Document Format (PDF) (application/pdf)) and it is just deleted or never saved. The next time I look or try to use it, it’s gone. This is obviously a bug in your system, please correct. Thank You.

I have long used the option to have a separate address and search bar ("Add search bar in toolbar" in search settings). A few months ago, I changed that to "Use the address bar for search and navigation". The search bar is gone, but when I type a query into my combined address and search bar, I only get "We're having trouble finding this site".

Notes: -) My default search engine is DuckDuckGo, but it doesn't work either when I make Google my default search engine -) I can use the "this time search with..." buttons on bottom, but that's an extra step for every search -) My profile goes way back to the beginnings of Firefox. Any hidden settings that might not have been migrated properly in the past, and that I could check in the about:config?

Apologies if this has already been answered but i honestly don't know what terms to search for to find the correct answer. Problem: My gmail account receives email from a BT Internet account. When I reply the owner of the BT Internet account doesn't receive my email so I have to remember to change the "to:" address to one of their other email accounts. Sometimes I forget and a few days later wonder why they haven't replied. Can I automate this? (I'm not going to try and resolve the source of the problem which is probably the BT Internet account because the user is elderly and I'm remote from them). I did try to set up a message filter ("After Sending" ticked, "To" contains abc@btinternet.com, "Forward Message to" abc@otherdomain.com) but it only works when run manually and even then it forwards everything that matches in my sent folder. I don't really want to forward the message, I want to change the "to:" address. Is what I'm asking possible (assuming I've described it in sufficient detail!). Many thanks for your help.
