Hi,

TB 91.5.0 on Windows 10 (with profile folder excluded from virus scan)

The latest update to seems to have resurrected a problem with saving copies of sent emails. Sending works fine, but copying of the sent email to the sent folder causes the send dialog to hang. Disabling the "Place a copy in:" option in account settings eliminates the problem. Using the "Other" option to place it in a local folder works *that is not part of a unified folder* works OK.

I have tried repairing folders and deleting the sent files inside "smart folders" in the profile, with no luck.

I have spent the last two days trying to re-establish receiving/sending emails on my Apple MacBook Pro using Thunderbird without success. This problem developed suddenly about 3 or 4 days ago and only affects the MacBook, not any other device (I have an iMac and two iPads). I have gone through the instructions in Thunderbird's support pages and those in Mozilla with no success.

How do I fix this please? Would the easiest way be to simply delete the account xxxxxxx.gmail.com from Thunderbird on my MacBook and re-instate it by adding it back in?

All the setting for IMAP and SMTP are correct and the username/password is identical on all my devices.

Unfortunately, I downloaded “SaveFrom.net Helper” without reviewing it.

Since downloading it I have been receiving a alerts from “McAfee WebAdvisor” about “dangerous pages blocked”.

I was able to remove the “SaveFrom.net Helper” add on in Firefox, but am unable to remove the “Savefrom.net Helper” bookmark tab which has high jacked my normal Firefox Bookmarks.

I can no longer easily see my Firefox Bookmarks and have to keep opening the Firefox Application Menu, then select Bookmarks, then select Manage Bookmarks in order to see my bookmarks.

Can you please advise how I can safely remove the “SaveFrom.net Helper” bookmark tab which has high jacked my Firefox Bookmarks.

Hello. I noticed that Firefox (98.0.2) doesn't even ask if the file should be saved or opened with a program when downloading some file types. Unfortunately, these file types (e.g. GPX) are not listed under Settings --> General --> Files and Applications, so that I could assign them to a program or specify that they should always be asked. And I can't add these files somehow... I have also deleted the file "handler.json" in the profile folder, hoping to be asked then. But that doesn't happen. GPX files, for example, are assigned to the GSAK program in the system - but Firefox just wants to save them and doesn't offer the option to open them directly in GSAK. Does anyone know advice how I can get Firefox to give me the choice? Thanks a lot.

Due to a rebuild, I just reinstalled Firefox and sync'd up to regain my bookmarks. In doing so, I ensured that the Bookmarks Toolbar is always present. But as you can see from the attached image, while the bar is there, there are no icons. When I move my cursor over the bar, nothing appears, nor can I click on anything. When I click on my Bookmarks icon and toggle to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder, I see all of my prior settings there.

I have subsequently uninstalled and reinstalled. Same result.

Any ideas?

My school is forcing me into IMAP - can I use it without any sync?

My school IT dept. has just disabled POP for all users, in their Outlook based system. I've only ever used POP, and I've organized all my mail locally in TB for decades, across dozens of email addresses. I avoid IMAP because I don't want my folder structure replicated in the cloud, and I don't want any of my data left on the server for more than 90 days. I also always use "place replies in the folder of the message being replied to", so I don't want anything messing with my Sent folder, or any other default folders. And I don't want any server side app with the ability to delete mail or make any changes to my local system. I hate webmail, and avoid using it completely, except for emergencies, so that's not a good option for me.

Now I have to set up IMAP for my school email, if I want to keep using TB for it, which I do. The existing account has been in TB on POP for 8 months already, and I don't want to split up my current activity from my history. I've never even set up IMAP before. How can I get IMAP set up to get as close as possible to the POP experience I prefer, in all the ways listed above? Has anyone come up with any clever strategies or workarounds? Are there any current features of IMAP that can minimize the impacts of all the downsides that made me decide to never adopt it from the beginning?

Thanks for any help with this.

I have a script:

D:\>cat tb.bat rem batch script to set environmental variables and then start Thunderbird rem 20Feb21 0728PM Barry Finkel rem 21Feb21 0904AM Cloned from tb-append.bat; removed ",append" rem 10Mar22 0315PM Added SMTP

D:\>

I need to log SMTP traffic when I send a piece of mail from Thunderbird. What I see in my pop3.log.moz_log file is SMTP traffic when Thunderbird downloads mail from the server. But I do not see the SMTP traffic when I send a piece of mail to the outbound server. When I look at previous logs, I see SEND records in a log from 2020-03-02. Did something change in the SMTP logging? I am running Thunderbird 91.8.0 64-bit in Windows 10 Professional 21H2 64-bit.
