Hello,

today I have started my Firefox and noticed that the interface is now totally broken. The close/minimize/restore buttons are missing, in full-screen mode I can't drag around the window anymore, some of my addons don't have icons or are totally broken and sometimes the interface reverts back to some Windows 98 style which looks totally broken too.

My steps to fix this so far were:

Firefox safe mode Firefox re-install Profile folders in appdata and all other related Mozilla/Firefox files and folders deleted

Funnily enough the same thing happened to Thunderbird last year, the only way to fix that was to install a very old version of TB 56 which I'm still using today. Don't Mozilla developers know how to code? All my other programs work fine.

Sometimes if I swipe up/down to scroll a web page Firefox will ignore me until I lift my finger and try again. Occasionally the first retry will fail as well. As far as I can tell, this affects web site taps, pinches, and swipes. I know Firefox is getting some kind of input because the address bar on the bottom will appear even though the website doesn't budge during a swipe. Some taps go completely ignored.

This started about a week ago (presumably when 82.1.1 came out--Wednesday 10/21 @ 5:28 AM). None of the native Firefox interface elements have exhibited this problem. Some of the other elements which seem like they might use the same facilities to render themselves as a web page would do, in fact, show this problem. I cleared data and cache, went to sign in again, and Firefox completely ignored my first tap on the email address field. I had to tap again. I have no problems whatsoever in any other application on my phone. I have no problems with web pages in Chrome for Android or in the system WebView (e.g. links clicked through the Gmail app). I encountered the problem on support.mozolla.org 3-4 times just trying to figure out how to submit a support request post. I subsequently switched to Chrome to post this and have had no issues whatsoever navigating around this or any other site.

I've successfully used Send Later many times before. (Have used Thunderbird for years.) Now, when I compose a message and click on Send Later, the usual screen when one sets up the time, no longer opens. The message goes straight to Outbox that now is located under Local Folders. ( Very different than before.) I can see my message there, open it, and the timestamp is the time when I clicked on Send Later. Still no way to set up the time for sending.

I can see Send Unsent Messages under Files, but again, there is nothing to set up the desirable time for the sending option.

I'm afraid something got messed up in recent updates.

Please help. Thank you.

Had to move to a new laptop. Had the same version of Thunderbird installed on both (older than v60), and just copied the Profile directory over. At that time, two of the four accounts would work, the other two would get stuck on showing a message in the status bar that read: "<account email> Connected to: <server name>" And then, nothing.

I figured it was something odd, so I uninstalled that version of TB, and installed the latest. Set up first email account - one that worked on the old version - and it now freezes the same as the other accounts on the old installation. (When uninstalling the old version, I DID remove both Thunderbird profiles in Roaming and Local AppData directories.

Got some logs using the log settings: `IMAP:5,LDAP:5,Mailbox:5,MailDirStore:5,MsgBiff:5,timestamp` And the log is here: https://pastebin.com/V83aiSga Essentially, it seems that it tries to connect, then immediately disconnect or give up. Specifically:

It recently appeared on Debian-based systems, along with the more annoying bug solved by cor-el in my previous post. It appears when Firefox ESR is first started and on new tabs. I'm sure this is another about:config solution, but I have no idea what to search on.

Hi there - I upgraded today to 78.4 (from 68) in order to allow multi factor authentication (and stay compatible w/ my work Office365 account). Everything seems to have gone fine except that when I open my address book, the only address books included are my de_junk_list and my LDAP. My personal Address Book (decades of addresses) is empty. I'd like to restore those missing addresses to my address book, but am unsure how to do so. Thank you for any advice!

Only one Browser has problems with HD videos (1080p + above) on youtube: Firefox in the most current version.

I have tested so far only the one current latest version of the ESR branch (78.3.x). But as visible from thousands of articles to this very particular problem (when i search the community help database for "Youtube videos stutter" i get multiple thousands of entries - i read only a handful of them to realize that they are all "closed" and not a single one "solved"), this problem persists since multiple years now.

I have a very old PC by my side with a very old Firefox (benchmark wise slower than my current PC by a factor of at least 3) ESR 52.9, which is able to play the same videos in the same HD resolution without the slightest stutter.

The drivers on that old system are - naturally - outdated by half a decade. THAT OLD OUTDATED system with THAT OLD OUTDATED Firefox is well able to play even multiple HD videos side by side. With-OUT any stutter.

Thus, you can easily deduce by logical reasoning that nighter any outdating of drivers whatsoever nor any outdating of anything else on the system, be it hardware wise or software wise, CAN AT ALL be the culprit of that stuttering.

While the former holds true, what you actually find in the communities help are completely useless and irrational tips of "upgrading the browser to the last version", "upgrading drivers" or "reinstalling any software" or the like.

Let me be clear: Nothing of the latter will ever help in overcoming the stuttering of current firefoxes at all. The only one measure that will help here is to revise the code that is underlying the video pipe.

Since the stuttering regularly only begins after about one to two minutes into the videos, it is strongly suggestive that something in the memory management - probably in the way resources becoming freed after use - is accumulating over time until the stuttering begins. Badly managed garbage collection, perhaps?

I've been having trouble receiving some of the email content coming from my protonmail account . Most messages come through just fine, but a small percentage (~5-10%) consistently appear to have an empty body when opened in TB. The headers always show up fine regardless.

Context:

  • Issue only occurs with my Protonmail account (4 other IMAP accounts all seem to work fine)
  • I am using IMAP and Protonmail's Bridge app
  • My computer is a MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7
  • I am using Thunderbird v68.12.1

Description of Problem Messages:

  • Body is blank when opened or previewed (doesn't matter if I open in a new window or tab or if I run TB in safe mode--they're still blank)
  • Headers always show up fine, regardless
  • Doesn't matter if I am viewing in Light, Dark, or system Default modes...

How Do I Know the Email Isn't Just Blank to Begin With?

  • If I access my email account directly through Protonmail's webmail the entire message body is always there.
  • I've figured out some tricks within TB to reveal the content too:
  • ...>Sometimes (but not always) by clicking 'reply' I can 'trick' TB into showing me the content quoted below my response
  • ...>I can extract the content from blank messages by using the 'Copy to Clipboard'>'Message' option from the Message menu in the program bar at the top of the TB window. I can then paste the contents into a TextEdit file to view and use. I've attached an annotated screenshot here to show what I am trying to describe. This workaround was a relatively recent discovery, but so far it has always worked when I've tried. (important note, maybe: this does not work if I use the typical Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy options from the Edit menu, nor does it work if I use the keyboard shortcuts either).

I cannot launch Thunderbird successfully anymore after migrating to Ubuntu 20.10. There is an issue in syncing with Nextcloud Calendar but after dutifully marking this calendar as read-only from Thunderbird, I cannot get Thunderbird up anymore in subsequent sessions. When I click the Thunderbird icon in the Favorites navbar, I get two message boxes:

1. An error has occured. An error occured when writing to the calendar NextCloud! When this appeared for the first time, I read the details and marked the calendar as read only. Thunderbird would still launch and still complain with the same message. But now all of sudden, Thunderbird just quits after the message box is dismissed.

Hi. I was a constant user of Firefox until a year or so ago. The bloat came in and I followed the hordes to Chrome. Chrome now has similar problems, (21 instances for 3 sites? Really?), so I looked into Firefox once more and found it has apparently been updated. I took the plunge and reinstalled looking forward to easier browsing again. Hmmm.

I am a user of ebay and pay via Paypal. (Just saying that, I guess some of you know what is coming now.) I use Eset Internet Security which has always been very secure, easy to manage and has never given a problem with ebay or Paypal in any way with Chrome. I have it set to open a separate secure browser for Paypal transactions. Using Firefox I cannot get any Paypal transaction to complete.

It has a variety of issues which I seem to meet at random on the way. Sometimes it just refuses to start, the circling icon sits in the small secure browser screen which is empty white and spins ad infinitum. Sometimes it gets to an authentication screen with a picture of a code to type in, except the code is missing and the box is empty white. If I refresh, it shows the code but the first entry is always incorrect then the second entry, if I am offered it, is accepted and I continue to login. Once the login details have been entered and I see the message confirming the data has been sent to www.paypal.com, sometimes it stalls here again and never gets beyond that. Very occasionally I get past this and see a yellow pling with the message "Looks like this action is not supported. Please return and report this error so that we can support it in the future. (invalid client_ID or redirect_uri)". Well I am reporting it but I'm not holding my breath as this problem has been around for months if other people are to be believed.

I have cleared all cookies and caches and restarted Firefox. Nothing. I found a thread here where someone advised turning off location blocking for Paypal. No difference. Payments go through fine with Chrome so it can't be my security settings external to the browser, (Eset), and it can't be a Paypal issue. What is wrong with Firefox that such a necessary piece of functionality is either broken or is so unusual to set up that so many people, (I've searched so I have seen them), cannot make it work?

Any advice on this will be warmly welcomed.

I did make sure to disable Accessibility Service using these steps below:


   Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
   A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to continue to the about:config page.
   In the about:config page, search for the preference accessibility.force_disabled.
   Observe the Value column of the accessibility.force_disabled row.
       If it is set to 1 then do nothing.
       If it is set to 0, double-click on it to open an editing field, type 1, then click the blue check mark button or press the Enter key to complete the update.

Thunderbird will not download new email messages from server

I have a Windows 10 machine running Thunderbird 78.4.0 (32-bit). The end-user has a Comcast.net email address mapped and has been working well for several years now. Since Oct 19th they have reported that no new mail is arriving but they can send emails. I can log into the Xfinity website and see new mail. Thunderbird is not reporting issues with the protocol selection and looks to be connecting but not getting anything.

We have tried the following so far. 1.) Confirmed no outbound firewall. 2.) Turned off the Windows firewall. 3.) Confirmed no antivirus causing issues. 4.) Rebooted machine. 5.) Configured IMAP in place of POP. Both connect and neither shows new mail. 6.) Configured Microsoft email with matching settings - This works fine and downloads email without issue. 7.) Loaded Mailbird and configured email with same settings - This works fine and downloads email without issue. 8.) Confirmed no email filters are turned on in Thunderbird. 9.) Confirmed no "rules" are set up that would move email. 10.) Turned off all Add-Ons and booted into Safe Mode and still does not download email. 11.) Booted machine into safe mode with networking and issue still persists. 12.) We didn't try just throwing the account completely away in Thunderbird but we did create a matching one and it connected but didn't bring email down either. 13.) Confirmed no proxy settings. 14.) Tried their account in Thunderbird on another machine and it was able to download new emails.

Anyone has additional thoughts on what could be causing this. I tried to talk them into a new email client and they weren't having it since everyone uses it in the office.
