My ISP, Cox, sent me a message that I have to change my POP server settings from:

port 110, Connection security: None, and Authentication method: Password, transmitted insecurely

to:

port 995, Connection security: SSL/TLS, and Authentication method: normal password

When I do this Thunderbird will not retrieve any new messages. The same changes work ok on two android devices, so I can see from them that there are new emails for Thunderbird to get, it's just not getting them. I tried changing one of my accounts back to the port 110 settings and that account now works again.

I tried contacting Cox about it but they stated that they don't support Thunderbird and referred me here.

I'm on Thunderbird 52.5.2 32 bit.

Folks:

I am running 64-bit Windows 10 Pro ,version 1511. I had been running Thunderbird 52.9.1 without any problems whatsoever. A few days ago, Thunderbird upgraded to 60.3.1. Thunderbird became unstable and unusable immediately upon start. Taskbar and Process Explorer showed that the program was running, but the window would not stay open or even stay stable.

I was able to use System Restore to revert to the previous version of Thunderbird, and although the calendar functionality is gone, it seems to work fine.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Started getting error April 10. I have SSL/TLS and Oauth2 set for Thunderbird account server and smtp. Looked thru lots of web messages - no joy. Via web browser I can connect to my Yahoo email without issue. My gmail account on Thunderbird still works fine (with its unique third party password). I am on current Thunderbird release 115.9.0 (64 bit). I disabled the only add-on that Thunderbird was using. Windows 11 Pro which is up to date. Plenty of open disk space. Have rebooted my PC multiple times.

Looking for suggestions Thanks Bob

Not used Thunderbird for about a week as was away. On my return I am now getting duplicate downloads every-time I open Thunderbird on my desktop using Windows 10. I am on Thunderbird version 115.12.2. I have been using Thunderbird for a long time and this is the first time this happened.

I recreated the global-message-db.sqlite indexfile, turned off my anti-virus, compacted folders but nothing solved the problem.

However I did find a similar question on this site with a solution which wasn't exactly the same but lead me to investigate the Mail folder in my profile. I see I am getting duplicate pop.gmail.com folders (pop.gmail.com, pop.gmail-1.com, pop.gmail-2.com, etc.). I guess that is probably connected to the problem.

When I open Thunderbird I also get the message 'Connection to server pop.gmail.com was reset'.

Any help would be appreciated. I didn't want to delete any pop.gmail.com folders without expert advice.

Thank-you in advance.

I've read a few historic suggestions about how to resolve this, but I haven't been comfortable with what solutions were suggested as they didn't seem to comprehensively answer the questions, I'm afraid.

Until this morning's attempts to resolve the "running out of disk space" warnings, I had two mail accounts on Thunderbird - my old Hotmail account and my new personal domain based account. Both accounts had old emails (3/4 years' worth) filed locally on my PC pending my satisfaction that the new mail account was working satisfactorily. To try and resolve the storage issue, I deleted all the locally stored emails from my Hotmail account from within Thunderbird, then deleted the Hotmail account, and restarted both my PC and Thunderbird.

The expected reduction on space occupied by the .thunderbird folder didn't materialise - at all.

How can I get back the space so I can continue working, please?

This is a recent issue. If I send an email with no images and no attachments, it copies the email into my "sent" folder with no problem.

If I send an email with even a small attachment...it sends the email, but "times out" copying the message to the sent folder.

I've checked the account/server settings, they are exactly as recommended. I've changed the sent files to "other"...no difference. I deleted and reinstalled Thunderbird...no change.

Ideas?

I accidently powered off system (PC with Windows 10) without closing programs, including Thunderbird. After restarting the system and opening Thunderbird, TB crashed. I have tried numerous fixes:

  • Installed the latest version of TB (from 78.11.0 to 102.8.0)
  • Opening TB in Safe Mode (disabling all add-ons, reset toolbars & controls)
  • Uninstall & reinstall TB

All result in the Crash Reporter dialog, with Report Contents. I can supply the report contents. (It wasn't obvious how to attach to this forum post.)

One KB item (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1337785) suggested that the issue may have to do with session.json file. Based on the file timestamp, that seems likely. But I don't know how to edit this file to fix the problem.

I also created a new TB profile, with does not crash on startup, but I cannot get email properly configured.

I have hundreds (maybe 1000s) of email stored in TB that I cannot access.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

Hi, i just got a new laptop (Asus Zephryus G16, 2560 x 1600 screen) and after installing Firefox there is a thin white border to the left of the screen when running in fit screen. This problem is not present when in a windowed mode or in F11 full screen.

I tried updating the Intel Arc drivers but this did not fix the problem. Changing to compatibility mode also did not fix te problem.

PS: in the uploaded screenshots it is quite dificult to see the white line(because the background is also white), but when the image is viewed in a new tab it is visible.

I'm not positive that it's a Firefox problem, as a friend of mine who uses IE cant load them either, however, she CAN load them on her Tablet. As a historian, I really need to get these records for my research, so I was wondering if someone could go to the site and see of the records appear for them to be downloaded. This is a direct link to one of the records:

For many years, my wife and I have each used Thunderbird on our own computers. Several weeks ago, when my wife turned Thunderbird on, a new screen appeared that mentioned account setup and directed her to set up her existing email address. When she did, a home screen appeared that was significantly different than the one she had been using. But more than that, she lost all her saved emails and Thunderbird started to reload emails. The reloading ended with over 1800 “new” emails whose dates reached back for almost a year. Since then, after some work, the home page has been returned to its earlier look; downloading, sending and deleting are working as before. Missing are a few important, personal subfolders. We’ve tried a few things that we thought/hoped would return us to the point before everything went crazy. That hasn’t happened. Recently, we looked at the Profiles folder on each of our computers and saw something that, I think, is unusual and, I hope, might provide a way get her back at least some of what was lost.

The route to my Profiles is C: > Users > Me > AppData > Roaming > Thunderbird > Profiles In Profiles are two folders, one ends with .default and the other with .default-release. The only thing in the default folder is the file times.json. The default-release folder contains many files and folders, including the Mail folder. The Mail folder contains two subfolders: Local Folders and mail.comcast.net.

On my wife’s computer, there is only one folder inside Profiles. The name ends in .default. Inside that folder is the Mail folder. Within the Mail folder are six subfolders: Local Folders, Local Folders-1, Local Folders-2, mail.comcast.net, mail.comcast.net-1, mail.comcast.net-2. The Date Modified date for Local Folders is probably the date the problem started. Date Modified for Local Folders-1, mail.comcast.net and mail.comcast.net-1 is the same: a few days after the date for Local Folders. The dates for Date Modified for Local Folders-2 and mail.comcast.net-2 are the same, and change daily.

I’m hoping/assuming that the missing, personal subfolders are in one, or more, of Local Folders, Local Folders-1, mail.comcast.net, mail.comcast.net-1. What I’m asking here is: does anyone know of a way to easily locate and recover the subfolders and, then, move them into the correct location in Local Folders-2and/or mail.comcast.net-2.

Thanks for taking the time to read this long story.

I can get mail from the AOL.Mail site, but can not get from Thunderbird. I have a G.mail Acct using Thunderbird and it works fine. Any idea why the new Verizon/Aol might be stumbling over Thunderbird? When I try to get mail it just hangs, when i try to send i instantly get this message...Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.verizon.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.

I have a bunch of IMAP accounts, most gmail, but one at alumni.caltech.edu. At the end I copy-pasted the start of Troubleshooting Information. All have been working fine with Thunderbird for years.

Today, for every account, if I click "Get Messages" I see "<account-name>: Connected to <hostname>..." at the lower-left in the status line, but it never completes or times out, and I don't get any new messages, even though I can login to webmail and see that there are new messages.

I've quit and restarted Thundbird, I've paused my Eset Smart Security firewall, and I've rebooted.

I tried turning on Thunderbird logging in an elevated cmd window with: C:\WINDOWS\system32>set NSPR_LOG_FILE=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\tbird_log.txt C:\WINDOWS\system32>set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=POP3:5,IMAP:5,SMTP:5 C:\WINDOWS\system32>start thunderbird

Thunderbird eventually went into offline mode and I exited, but I don't know how to read the log file properly.

This is on Windows 10 Home. I did get a significant Windows Update overnight: Version 1709 and an update to it, KB40058043. I noticed this morning that I had a Windows Mail app in my taskbar (which I removed). I'll also say that my wife's PC got the same Windows update, and her Thunderbird client is working fine.

I'm out of ideas how to fix or further analyze this - can someone look at the log file? Since it contains email addresses I don't want to try posting it.
