Firefox needs a limit on memory usage. I was developing a tiny web page on Linux (PopOS) and accidentally created an endless loop in Javascript that ate memory (by growing an array). My entire OS became inoperable and had to be hard-rebooted. I was surprised this could happen due to Javascript (a sandboxed browser language), running in a web page (a sandboxed app) running in a Firefox browser that is supposed to protect users from the world wild web. One errant line of legal Javascript in HTML should not equate to a denial-of-service attack.

A sensible approach would be similar to the nice warning given when a script takes too much CPU, offering the user the choice to continue or stop the script when a tab exceeds some reasonable size: a fixed MB size, or say 10% of real RAM memory.

Ideally there should also be some hard limit calculated by Firefox according to the machine's available memory and Firefox's reasonable percentage of it. For example, maybe limit Firefox (all tabs combined) to 50% or maybe 75% of real memory, so that the O/S has a reasonable chance to remain operational so that a bad tab can be closed. Otherwise, Firefox could cause the O/S to lock up, resulting in data loss if there are tabs or other apps outside of Firefox that have unsaved changes.

Thanks for your consideration!

Hi,

I have scoured the web and can't seem to find a solution to this. Either firefox doesn't support this feature or I haven't looked enough.

How can you identify the pid of a tab in firefox? There isn't a tab in the task manager that shows this, like with chrome, opera, and edge.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hello there !!!

Today I had serious damage to my Mozilla Firefox. When I started up Firefox I realized that I lost all my opened tabs on all my (three) opened windows, although I had checked the box "Restore previous sessions" in the settings section.

I opened "settings" and I saw this box unchecked !!!!!

The unfortunate event of this failure is that I restarted Firefox and even worse I restarted the PC.

Now I wonder, after all these, if there is a way to restore all my lost TABs that, I believe, there are hidden somewhere...

I had an issue where when I tried to open firefox I received an error that said ""A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". After looking at some other support articles I came across this article that appeared to fix the issue after entering a command in terminal https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1254772, and I guess I deleted the wrong version because after being able to reopen my browser I had none of my saved bookmarks, extensions, history, or any other account info.

Is there any way I can recover my lost browser info or am I just completely SOL?

On bankofamerica.com, when I log in, it asks for acknowledgment and once I give it, a terms and timeout timer window is supposed to pop up with a 'continue' button further down. I only get the top 1/4" or maybe 1 line of the window and can not get past this point. It works fine on other major browsers. Any ideas on why?

I'm using Thunderbird 78.14.0 (32-bit). The delete button and key stopped working today. Have no idea why. This Help page gives the solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-delete-messages. Towards the end (for POP accounts) it says: "In the folder list, right-click on your account name and select 'New Folder' " But the problem is that with unified email accounts, the folder list doesn't show account names!

For quite a while (I unfortunately do not remember since which update), the 'write'-box has a weird darker grey on shade on the side and top parts of the upper field (where email-addresses, etc. are put in). Sometimes, it would go away when I hover over it, sometimes not.

I thought this was a silly bug that would go away after a few updates, but it remains unchanged for several months now and I was wondering if: -other people have the same issue? -it depends on my installation? -I need indeed to wait for an update to fix it?

Many thanks in advance.

Since the upgrade to version 93 many times Firefox freezes (blue circle moving on screen) and the complete screen is filled with the browser in such a way that the Windows tray is not visible. This is particularly being done when several pages are open in the browser simultaneously. Sometime after this freeze the browser closes itself without any notice. This is rather annoying when I am in the middle of a work.

Here are the details of my OS: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/DkNG2o5X

Please find attached a picture what can be seen when the above freeze happens.

I've searched the community and knowledge base, and I am not seeing a solution that works. The video listed below shows the issue but here's a recap: An event I accepted an invite to just completed. The notification popped up before the event as hoped for, but could not be dismissed. It continues to repeat about every 20 to 30 minutes.

Clicking dismiss does nothing. Clicking dismiss all does nothing. https://www.screencast.com/t/NAPTzvp9kOoh

I'm trying to find a way to change where Firefox 93 stores my temporary internet files away from C Drive to a different drive to reduce lag. I found an article on how to do it using the about:config utility, but I can't do what that article describes — right-clicking in the about:config browser does not give me the option to create a new string; there is no "new" option.

How do I change this in Firefox 93?

Since a recent upgrade (to TB 91.2.0, part of Manjaro regular updates) I receive an error message every time I send an email:

"Login to server [my mail server] with username [my username] failed"

Strangely, in spite of the error message, the email seems to send OK, and is placed correctly in my sent folder. There is no problem checking mail, only sending.

I have changed nothing in the setup, which has been working fine for a long time; and I have another computer running an older version of Thunderbird (as supplied with Ubuntu 20.04), which still works fine sending messages from the same account, with the same details.

If there is any other detail I can offer that will help troubleshooting, please let me know. If anyone can help with this I would be very grateful.

Hello, A few weeks ago the "sort folders" add-on stopped working. What seems to be around the same time, upon startup Thunderbird expands all the folders. I have disabled all the add ons - Manually sort and ExQuilla for Exchange are the only ones I use. ExQuilla is still running.

I have closed the folders, then Thunderbird, then gone into the profile folder and deleted the Pancea.dat folder (there was just the one). Upon startup again - all the folders are expanded.

I've read though the MozillaZine forum and didn't find any help there. (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=520331).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
