Dear all,

For some time now my Firefox browser is crashing while I use it. Then a loop starts where a window appear with buttons offering to Restart or Close Firefox but whichever I choose it takes several sets of open/crash to stabilize when in the end if offers to either open it again, or refresh Firefox. I don't wan to refresh because I have tens of tabs that I want to save. But I can't because OneTab, along with all other extensions, is being disabled after the restarts.

I have a crash ID of one of the latest occurrences of this phenomena: f6ef62ad-b072-46b8-8bc8-0d3ca0240708

Please advise!

I noticed my laptop was being slow, so I looked at the memory usage. Firefox was using a whopping 5GB of memory on Windows 11. I then looked at about:process and it reported that extensions were using 4GB. I disabled each of my extensions and it still said it was using 4GB of memory. I then uninstalled two of them and re-enabled some extensions and it dropped to 781MB. This is still to much in my opinion, and I want to know how to figure out which extension is being so wasteful. Even a technique on how to figure it out would be appreciated.

My ISP had provided the IPv6 service, edge/chrome/vivaldi are all IPv6 first and working well. Only firefox insists use IPv4, although it could also pass the IPv6 test on https://test-ipv6.com, and the internal test on https://detectportal.firefox.com/success.txt?ipv6 It leads to some webpage extremely slow, even could not be accessed.

I've tried privacy mode, but the problem is still there. IPv6 in about:config is enabled, all related options are default. Is this a bug, or if there is any way could fix it by some special settings?

Waiting for your help, thanks.

Firefox takes a very long time to open the first tab. After it opens, subsequent tabs open relatively quickly. I've tried self help suggestions like clearing cookies, cache and history, updating, even removing home page content. Nothing helps. It's getting intolerable and I end up switching to other browsers rather than sit and wait. Starting to even dread using firefox. Running Sonama 14.3.1 on my iMac. What else can I do?

I am trying to reach an internal company website ([URL]), with a certificate chain rooted in a company certificate authority. This works fine in Chrome, and worked in Firefox on my previous computer. But i recently got a new machine, and something somewhere is not quite right. I get an error message looking like this (between the ~~~s):

~~~ Someone could be trying to impersonate the site and you should not continue.
Web sites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust [URL] because its certificate issuer is unknown, the certificate is self-signed, or the server is not sending the correct intermediate certificates.
Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER
View Certificate ~~~
If i click on the error code, i get these details:
~~~ [URL]

Peer's Certificate issuer is not recognised.

HTTP Strict Transport Security: false HTTP Public Key Pinning: false

Certificate chain:

BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

[certificate]

END CERTIFICATE-----
BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

[certificate]

END CERTIFICATE-----
BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

[certificate]

END CERTIFICATE-----

~~~
If i click 'View Certificate', i get a chain of three certificates:
  1. Subject common name = [certificate]
  2. Subject common name = [certificate]
  3. Subject common name = [certificate]
If i go to Settings > Privacy & Security > View Certificates > Authorities, i can find both the [certificate] certificates. As far as i can tell, they are identical - i can open the certificate from 'View Certificate' and the corresponding one from the certificate manager and flip between tabs, and all the details are the same.
I am using Firefox 120.0, via a flatpak, on Ubuntu 22. I have given the flatpak access to /etc/ssl/certs, where my company's internal CA certificates are located.
To me, this seems like it should all work. The server has a certificate signed by an internal CA, which is signed by another internal CA, and both those internal CA certificates are in my certificate manager. So what is going wrong? Is there any way i can debug this?
Everytime I go to play games on my laptop I close Firefox for the extra resources and when I'm done I open it right back up, I have done this for YEARS but this time it didn't restore my session. I thought it would be as easy as the last time where I'd go click the Restore Session button but it isn't there so I spend two hours looking for solutions and found nothing. I don't know how this happened nor do I understand how this could happen in the first place, my Firefox hasn't crashed in months and I had already closed and re-opened it several time today.
I'm asking this question on a different browser because Firefox cant load any websites.
Basically whenever i open a new tab, it opens to a crashed tab. Gah. It cant even load google, or any website for that matter, not even the homepage for Firefox, its just a blank page with nothing on it, whenever i type something into the address bar and press enter it just disappears and does nothing. Browser settings work, but stuff like passwords dont, and i have most of my important passwords on firefox, so i cant log into runescape and stuff.
Can you help?
Hi.
Ever since I upgraded to version 123.0.1, I am constantly getting slowness on websites stuck in "Performing a TLS handshake..." Eventually the websites load, but it's frustrating. I have read about the various solutions and have tried the following: Disabled IPV6 Refreshed Firefox Reloaded Firefox Disabled and removed all extensions Restart in safe mode Create new profile
This was not happening in version 122 and before. Microsoft Edge does not have this problem, but I prefer to use Firefox. I am running Windows 11 Pro. Any ideas?
Thanks
My Firefox tab keeps crashing on a particular website. Whenever I go to twitch.tv, the site begins to load and then I get the "Gah. Your tab just crashed." screen. I'm only getting this crash on twitch.tv pages, and this issue just started on May 31, 2024. When I try to open a twitch.tv page in Private Mode, the page loads just fine. I've never had a Firefox tab crash prior to this.
I've tried turning off all of my Firefox extensions, but that didn't solve the issue. I also tried opening Firefox in Troubleshooting Mode, but I still got the tab crash. I'm using the latest version of Firefox as of today's date.
It worked nicely for many years, until today. I installed Supraland from Steam, played for a couple of hours, and suddenly my Youtube page went glitchy - not the layout but minor elements were getting scrambled, especially text. I'll attach a couple of pictures to show it. In fact, all pages glitch if their content changes even a little. As of typing now, I see the glitches, with a word or another getting butchered. Gifs and videos are full of that.
Windows 10, the current update, Radeon RX 580, the recommended AMD drivers installed (and reinstalled again and again, 23.11.1)
I think I did pretty much everything with Firefox. Disabling hardware acceleration fixes it (but then of course the browser goes slow). Games work fine, including Talos Principle 2 which is intense enough. The clean install, reinstall and all that. I'm writing from the beta stable build now. I've tried to regress to the previous versions too.
It strictly coincides with the game installation but I have no close backups - who knew that some game might just do that. Then, of course, I tried to uninstall it too.
Thoughts?
I am using Windows 10 Home on an HP laptop. Some months ago, I began getting this error message when trying to start Thunderbird: Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've been slogging along using my Gmail reader since then but I need my address books from TB for my business. I really need to get this fixed.
I've read all the questions/replies on this and have uninstalled and reinstalled TB. My Appdata/Roaming/TB file only has 5 files in it: Crash Reports, Pending Pings and Profiles plus a couple of 1 KB config files. Don't know if this is right or not.
When I search the Profiles folder using .ini, I get this Notepad info:
[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=C:\Users\*\Documents\yvfr1fi4.default Locked=1
[Profile3] Name=thunderbird IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/kavosmqu.thunderbird
I have this yvfr file on a thumb drive and I tried uploading that into the roaming/TB file but I still get the same error message.
Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Hi
I've been having an issue logging into Gmail using Firefox. I've used both Gmail and Firefox for years and have never had a problem, but I now get stuck in an endless loop on the Gmail login page. I select my account, enter my password, then get sent back to the account selection page.
The problem seems to be relating to me trying to link two Gmail addresses so that mail from one is forwarded to the other. I set up one account this way without any issue, but when I went to do it with a different account, I got an error code. After that, I was logged out of Gmail in Firefox and haven't been able to log back in.
Things I've tried so far:
  • Using a different browser. I can log in without issues in Chrome.
  • Logging in with a different method. Neither my password nor my passkey work.
  • Logging in with a different Gmail account. All of my accounts seem to be stuck in this way.
  • Disabling all my extensions. This doesn't help.
  • Clearing Firefox's cache. No luck here.
  • Restarting Firefox and restarting my PC. Turning it off and on again doesn't fix it.
  • Contacting Google support. They said they think it's a browser issue as I don't have any problems using Chrome.
  • Using Firefox's private browsing mode. This does work and I can log in to Gmail. However, I don't know exactly what the problem is because I've disabled all my extensions and cleared the cache in regular browsing mode and still can't log in that way.
So I have a partial solution (using Firefox's private browsing mode) but it's not a long-term fix. What else can I try? Has anyone else seen this problem before and been able to fix it?
Hi,
First, this is not a complaint. Firefox is an outstanding product that makes me very happy.
I though I could post the following, because this community strives to make it better.
In a nutshell, I have a very fast Internet connection, up to 6Gbs/1Gbs speed, and Firefox is not able to go over .9/.8
I attach are 2 tests, one with Firefox and one with Chrome.
Note that when using it for anything else than speedtest, Firefox does not feel slow at all.
I'm not requesting a fix, just thought that somebody would like to know.
I've been using TB since the beginning, so like 20 years now, congrats! (to me 😜) Now I have at least 10 accounts and hundreds of folders and everything was fine until I started archiving some old messages in one account, and TB began creating new archive folders like YYYY/YYYY-MM which were being included in the Global Search/indexer by default. So I went to the properties of each folder and unchecked the option to include it in the Global Search results. I could see in the Activity Monitor the indexing of that folder would stop and go on to the next one, until I disabled all 12. Now TB is indexing over 100,000 messages but it doesn't say what folder these are in, I can't seem to find it.
What I did find is the global-messages-db.sqlite database which, after closing TB, I made a backup of, then I found the folderLocations table with hundreds of rows and the IndexingPriority column which had various values of: -1, 20, 40, 50, and 60. I set them all to -1 and TB is still trying to index over 100,000 messages somewhere. Where? and how to stop its madness?!
So here are my system specifications -
  1. Hardware - Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3
  2. Firmware version - R23ET65W (1.35 )
  3. Memory (RAM) - 32.0 GiB (DDR5 6400Mhz)
  4. Processor - AMD Ryzen™ 7 PRO 6850U with Radeon™ Graphics × 16
  5. Disk capacity - 256.1 GB (I don't remember the I/O rate right now but as far as I remember it's sufficiently modern)
  6. OS - Fedora Linux 38.20230828.0 (Silverblue)
  7. GNOME version - Fedora Linux 38.20230828.0 (Silverblue)
  8. Window System - Wayland
  9. Kernel - Linux 6.4.12-200.fc38.x86_64
These are like the basic config of my laptop.
Question - How to stop Thunderbird from downloading every email that I have from my gmail account on the first setup?
Concern - Last time I synced, it might have messed up even my boot loader (which should not be possible. Not I am not blaming Thunderbird here, but the timing was uncanny.) and I had to completely wipe the drive and start from scratch. Back then I did not have any data on my drive so it wasn't a big deal. But I don't want to take any chances this time.
Since Thunderbird supernova has a completely different UI, I would like to know if there's any way to disable the downloading of the whole mail box locally. Or am I going to get a prompt asking me specifically for that after logging in into my Gmail account from Thunderbird?
Note - I do not want to mess with about:config at all. And I have looked for a solution but all the answers are at least 3 to 4 years old.
My issues:
1) Every time I close Firefox I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter telling me that Firefox has crashed. Sometimes I even get the Mozilla Crash Reporter when I start Firefox. But Firefox is still there.
2) When I turnoff my Comodo Firewall, Firefox has no Internet connection.
I have done clean uninstalls/reinstalls over and over. I go thru and adjust settings. My other browsers work fine, including WaterFox, WaterFox Classic, and Vivaldi.
I tried turning off my security software to test. Specifically exiting Comodo Firewall seems to have caused Firefox to not have an Internet connection. All other browsers have Internet access except Firefox. And the Crash Reporter cannot "report" when the Firefox Internet connection does not work, though I did have it report many times when the connection DID work.
One other clue: In Task Manager I see that even though I have closed Firefox, there over 20 instances of it still running. When I try to open it again, I get the "Firefox already running" error message. When I try to kill these instances/processes many will not close.
This problem has been persistent for more than half a year since I built my new PC. I am on Windows 10 LTSC. Besides Comodo Firewall, Emsisoft Anti-Malware is my main anti-malware.
Please help! Thank you!
Firefox updated yestarday. I see these changes: extension are gone, theme settings were switched from Dark to Light, "Startup -> Open previous windows and tabs" option went from checked to unchecked. These things are still fine: bookmarks, saved passwords and history. Tried reverting to older Firefox version, but it didn't help so I installed the new one again. I then checked profiles in AppData folder and I see three of them. The problematic one I just described, the one that was automatically created when I tried to downgrade to previous Firefox version and the one which only contains empty "parent.lock" file. There is nothing useful in "Extensions" folders (first profile has addblock extension file which I just installed, second profile has langpack extension file). I don't particularly care about which specific extensions I used since I can just reinstall them when I need them again, but one of those extensions contained custom written scripts which were running on specific sites to help me with my work. Those scripts are what I really want to recover.
