Do you (as a Mac user) experience the same or similar:

44 instances of FirefoxCP Isolated Web Content ranging from 60MB-918MB each, with 18 of them above 200MB and 5 of them above 400MB. I have 15 tabs open and in practical terms almost nothing else open on the computer (a brand new M3 silicon iMac). It has 8 GB of memory. I had similar experiences in the past, but never as bad as now. I do not know everybody else can live with this.

Is this how Firefox is designed to operate or is this a bug?

Thanks.

Highlighting with the mouse is full of glitches. It never works right. It either stops highlighting or highlights opposite the direction I'm moving the mouse.

I need to summarize a recent medical encounter; the hospital's 234 pages are out of temporal order and have many repeats. I want to put it in time order and delete the repeats. It's a PDF, and since I can't use Acrobat anymore, I read PDFs in Firefox.

Not once have I been able to mark a section of text properly. There seem to be some forbidden areas: I highlight what I can, transfer it, then go back for the rest, but it won't highlight.

Ctl-A highlights it. I often do that and delete the excess, but that's inconvenient.

I can open the same file in xpdf and mark without trouble, but I don't like xpdf.

For this doc, I converted the PDF to text with pdf2text, but it's harder to read. I identify target text in Firefox, then find it in the text version, use emacs to copy from the original to my summary.

I've tried a fresh battery in the mouse. Every other app works.

1. DO NOT TELL ME TO REMOVE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM TO FIX THIS BUG IN THUNDERBIRD 2. DO NOT TELL ME WHY THE PROGRAM IS DISPLAYING THIS IDIOTIC ERROR MESSAGE, I DO NOT CARE, THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM, THAT IS NOT WHY I AM POSTING THIS QUESTION/REQUEST/BUG REPORT 3. I AM NOT A PROGRAMMER WHO CAN DOWNLOAD THE THUNDERBIRD CODE AND FIX THIS ISSUE MYSELF 4. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT ANYONE WHO IS NOT ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS QUESTION/COMMENT/BUG REPORT, AND RESPOND UNDERSTANDING THE POINT THAT I AM MAKING, IS A TRUE IDIOT, A MORON

Here is the text from the same question last year, but after that people posted thousands of words telling me to uninstall anti-virus or making all sorts of other silly suggestions, NONE OF THAT MATTERS, PLEASE UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING!!!

EVEN IF ALL OF WHAT THEY WERE SAYING IS TRUE, AND I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IT IS, THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS THE IDIOTIC ERROR MESSAGE!! IT DISPLAYS AN IDIOTIC ERROR MESSAGE THAT THE USER IS FORCED TO CLEAR BY PRESSING ESCAPE OR OK BUTTON, BUT THERE IS NOTHING THE USER CAN DO ABOUT THE ISSUE, OTHER THAN UNINSTALLING ANTI-VIRUS APPARENTLY, BUT THE ERROR MESSAGE DOES NOT SAY THAT!!!!!!

The idiotic error message should be silent, posted in a log perhaps, to let someone know of the matter, IF THEY ARE PROGRAMMING OR WHATEVER. BUT THE AVERAGE USER CANNOT CHANGE WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE ERROR, SO THEY SHOULD NOT BE REPEATEDLY ANNOYED WITH THIS STUPID MESSAGE.

ORIGINAL QUESTION (EDITED) BELOW:

I have e-mail messages in 20 or more different folders, and there are five or more accounts. When using the Offline/Download Sync command, where it checks each folder and downloads all the messages, it often generates a useless popup message. If the message should say "Thunderbird is not compatible with virus scanning programs, please remove your virus scanning program!" then have it say that! But that is idiotic! So just MOVE ON, don't repeatedly display the idiotic message, maybe just put some notice in a log or whatever. But it is simply insane to keep displaying this idiotic message when all the end-user can do is clear it and ignore it! I say useless because there is literally zero that I can do to change anything that is apparently generating the problem that causes it to proclaim the error, except apparently uninstall anti-virus which isn't going to happen, not when Thunderbird is THE ONLY PROGRAM WHO CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO JUST MOVE ON WHEN A FILE IS NOT AVAILABLE TO IT BECAUSE SOME STUPID ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM IS SCANNING IT, IF THAT IS EVEN THE PROBLEM.

Apparently some other process is using a folder when the download routine attempts to use the folder, so it 'beeps' and displays the message attached below. But again, there is nothing the end user can do except be annoyed and click the OK button to close the message.

If this is needed for debug purposes or other coding programmer reasons, just put the error in a log, don't annoy the end user with a message about something over which they have zero control.

If I am still not explaining this correctly, discuss that, the display of the error IS THE PROBLEM, not whatever is going on the background, about which I have no information or concern, that is someone else's problem, maybe they need the error message, the end-user does not, it is just a useless annoying bug in the program.

I looked into how to engage in the programming website and post the bug there, but I would appreciate very much if someone else who is familiar with that can put this bug on the programming website, it just seems bit more than I am ready to involve myself in.

At least it would be helpful also, for someone to replay that you understand the point I am making here, the popup message IS THE PROBLEM, the bug repair is to STOP THUNDERBIRD from repeatedly displaying the useless popup message. This should be a very simple programming fix. Thank you.

I initially searched this forum for "Search Received" but got over 300 items. I tried refining the search but couldn't find any issues that matched this.

Before adding the Received Header I had found another article on here that said it was OK to add a search header using the Customize option. Is the Receive field a valid search criterion? If so, why isn't the search finding emails that match that criterion?

I have been getting constant messages when I try to use Thunderbird about Thunderbird being unable to connect, go to Advanced and lower number. It's at 1. Still get message. Now I can't see my Inbox mail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and the situation just gets worse. I am so flummoxed I don't know what to do. I'm a user not a programmer. How do I just start over or should I just realize that Thunderbird is not an email program I can use and go back to my ISP's Zimbra webmail?

Using TB v91.5.1 on Windows 10 x-64. I have several mail accounts, one of which is for a hotmail.com address. This has been working fine for years, but over the past couple of days, I don't seem to be able to send emails form this account. I can receive them fine, but when I try to send, I get the small pop-up telling me it's sending the message, and the progress bar is at 100%, but it doesn't send the message, it just sits there.

I looked in the error console, but nothing was added when I tried sending.

You can see my server settings for the account in the attached image.

Any ideas? Please let me know if there is any other info you need.

Thanks

Hello,

I've just downloaded firefox, making the switch from chrome. Doing so I've migrated a couple of tabs and extensions I had. Totally it was 50 tabs, with 6 extensions, I've downgraded now with the switch and it's only 37 tabs and 2 extensions, even so firefox is using more ram than google by a large amount. With 50 tabs open, chrome was using 1.5gigabytes of memory. With the same 37 tabs and extensions, firefox is currently using 6 gigabytes of memory.

The tabs used are from reputable sources, so firefox shouldn't be breaking on these websites. The extensions I am using at the moment on firefox is, Ublock origin, Dark Reader.

As far as reputation goes, firefox should be using less Ram than chrome. Is there a setting I should know about to lower such performance issues? Firefox acceleration is ON.

Thank you for any answers.

A couple users at our site intermittently receive a SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_ALERT error when navigating to Google in Firefox. This happens in Version 99.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 10 computers. When the issue occurs, users can navigate to other websites without issues. Navigating to Google in a different browser works no problem. Restarting the browser will resolve the issue. Clearing cookies and site data has no effect. Users can also refresh the page after some time and the issue will go away.

Any idea as to why this is happening?
