Recently changed broadband provider over to Kinex from Orange. Now we find that we are unable to send any e-mails whatsoever. We can still recieve e-mails. I have spoken to Kinex and changed our Outgoing Server so that according to them there should no longer be an issue but despite that we are still getting this error message when we try to send e-mails.

'Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.dslconnect.co.uk timed out. Try again.'

This is a business e-mail and we really do need normal e-mail functionality back as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

About 24 hours ago Thunderbird suddenly stopped downloading my emails. I rebooted a few times and still nothing. I went to email web version and my emails were coming in fine there. I read a bunch of articles here and went ahead and deleted my email account within Thunderbird with the intention to add it back in. Then I had password issues and had to call the email provider to reset my password. Now my password is fine, but when I go to add back in my account Thunderbird says it cannot verify the password. I went through several tests with the email provider's support and since I could log in everywhere I needed to with my password, and the only place it will not work is on Thunderbird itself, she concluded that I need to get support from Thunderbird as that is where the problem lies.

Of course there is no support for Thunderbird....and I am so frustrated at this point! I have been using Thunderbird forever! at least ten years or more...and this has never happened before. I really, really really don't want to switch my email client but I cannot seem to get this one to work all of a sudden anymore and if I cannot get it to work I need to find something that does. Can anyone help please?

Thunderbird has suddenly decided no matter what I do it is not responding. I cannot access my emails or do anything else. I became so desperate I decided to use Eudora BETA instead but that is just as bad. I have removed both programs from my computer but when I download and install Thunderbird it opens with all my old information but still I just get the message Not Responding (there must be something somewhere that has not totally removed the program I would think for this to keep occuring??). How do I fix this problem as it has become beyond frustrating.

My eyesight means the (stock) small font size of Thunderbird renders it unusable without using the excellent Font and Theme Size Changer (FTSC) .

Following the auto update to TB v 60.2.1, FTSC is disabled by Thunderbird giving me the message "...This add on is disabled as it's not compatible with TB 60.2.1..."

Is there any way I can roll back to the previous version of TB and then stop TB from updating.

Started getting error April 10. I have SSL/TLS and Oauth2 set for Thunderbird account server and smtp. Looked thru lots of web messages - no joy. Via web browser I can connect to my Yahoo email without issue. My gmail account on Thunderbird still works fine (with its unique third party password). I am on current Thunderbird release 115.9.0 (64 bit). I disabled the only add-on that Thunderbird was using. Windows 11 Pro which is up to date. Plenty of open disk space. Have rebooted my PC multiple times.

Looking for suggestions Thanks Bob

Folks:

I am running 64-bit Windows 10 Pro ,version 1511. I had been running Thunderbird 52.9.1 without any problems whatsoever. A few days ago, Thunderbird upgraded to 60.3.1. Thunderbird became unstable and unusable immediately upon start. Taskbar and Process Explorer showed that the program was running, but the window would not stay open or even stay stable.

I was able to use System Restore to revert to the previous version of Thunderbird, and although the calendar functionality is gone, it seems to work fine.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My ISP, Cox, sent me a message that I have to change my POP server settings from:

port 110, Connection security: None, and Authentication method: Password, transmitted insecurely

to:

port 995, Connection security: SSL/TLS, and Authentication method: normal password

When I do this Thunderbird will not retrieve any new messages. The same changes work ok on two android devices, so I can see from them that there are new emails for Thunderbird to get, it's just not getting them. I tried changing one of my accounts back to the port 110 settings and that account now works again.

I tried contacting Cox about it but they stated that they don't support Thunderbird and referred me here.

I'm on Thunderbird 52.5.2 32 bit.

Help?

This is a problem on my father's computer. I'm a computer tech, he is not. On MY computer, I haven't had this problem with Thunderbird 60, even though I also use Gmail (as well as other e-mail providers).

Immediately after Thunderbird updated itself to version 60, it would crash within 1-2 seconds of Thunderbird starting.

Troubleshooting: - Rebooted computer several times. - Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

Still crashes.

I created a new Thunderbird Profile and set up his Gmail address using OAuth2. Successfully receiving e-mails with no crashes.

I exported his address books and calendars from the old profile, and imported into the new profile. Copied the Local Folders files manually from the old profile to the new. Got all the Thunderbird settings the way he likes. No crashes.

An hour later, Thunderbird starts crashing again. Now it only crashes when a new e-mail comes in.

Troubleshooting: - Rebooted computer. - Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode. - Disabled filters.

Still crashing.

Submitted Thunderbird Crash Report with details and my father's e-mail address, which I will not put here in this public forum.

It's been nearly a year I think. A good six months, at any rate.

I filed a case on it about 3 months ago, but the "My Questions" list doesn't show it.

At the time, I was treated to an entire digest of how I was supposed to examine 100 tasks going on in my system to see if one of them was causing memory problems... As if!

But here's the thing:

  1. NO OTHER PROGRAM ON MY SYSTEM experiences the kind of stalls that Tbird sees,
and they are all laboring under the same constraints.
  2. TBIRD STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF WRITING A MESSAGE -- TWO OR THREE TIMES, in some cases.
That is a simple inability to grasp the concept of MULTI-TASKING in software.
Background processes can stall all they want. Foreground processes should NEVER see them.
  3. TBIRD DOES NOT DOWNLOAD MESSAGES UNLESS AND UNTIL I AM USING IT.
I can have it open on the desktop for as long as I want. But once I click in it, THEN I see the
"downloading messages" alert. That too is a SIMPLE FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND MULTI-TASKING.
If the program is running, it should have been downloading things in the background--not
wait until I am attempting to use it to DO something.
 4. TBIRD SUPPORT APPARENTLY BELIEVES IT IS BEST TO BLAME THE USER.
Again, a simple failure to understand the concept of multi-tasking is the root cause of the
problems I have been experiencing. But reporting the issue did no good whatsoever.
Instead, I was supposed to spend a day diagnosing memory issues -- "issues" that DO NOT
AFFECT ANY OTHER PROGRAM on my computer.

So I gave up. I moved to Outlook. Sure enough, no stalls. Big relief. I have my inbox set up, and just imported my contacts. That just leaves a few years' worth of old messages I wish I could transfer. So I'll keep TBird installed, just to access those old messages, when I need them.

But as for daily use, no. It's history. I write this message to explain why, in hopes that someone will learn from it.

When I try to play a video on Firefox desktop, it takes it a long time to load. Once it has loaded, whenever I pause it for more than a few seconds, or if I try to skip around the video (either by clicking around in the loaded section of the progress bar or using +/- seconds buttons), the video begins buffering again before the video resumes. This makes it extremely difficult and frustrating to watch anything that requires me to pause, rewind, or fast forward. I've noticed this issue affect multiple video viewing sites, such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Netflix. My roommate also uses Firefox, but doesn't have this issue, so I know it's not a problem with my internet. I thought it might be a problem with my computer, but I tried to replicate the issue in Chrome and everything worked fine there. The issue has persisted almost a week. I have:

  • Rebooted my computer several times
  • Deleted my history/cache
  • Disabled my extensions
  • Turned off Java scripts in firefox (this disabled my ability to load sites like YouTube completely, so I turned it back on)
  • Updated my computer
  • Updated my graphics drivers
  • Refreshed firefox
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled firefox (and rebooted my computer)
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled firefox AND deleted all the data it stored on my computer (and rebooted my computer)

I am currently using version 123.0.1 of Firefox. My OS is Windows 10 22H2.

A couple of days ago Thunderbird started flashing views. It went from the vertical view I've always used to one where it only shows the folders then emails, sender, size, and date spread horizontally across the whole widescreen. It was unresponsive and used a lot of cpu when doing this. I could not click on an email and read it as there is on section to do that anymore. I found I could right click on an email and after many seconds the right click menu would appear and I could choose "open in new window" and access it that way. I've tried restarting in safe mode and uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird with no effect. It's now stable with the whole screen folder, email list shown. The only way to read emails is in a new window or tab. The layout options under view do not work. The included screenshot is the only view I now have. Any help, ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have a bunch of IMAP accounts, most gmail, but one at alumni.caltech.edu. At the end I copy-pasted the start of Troubleshooting Information. All have been working fine with Thunderbird for years.

Today, for every account, if I click "Get Messages" I see "<account-name>: Connected to <hostname>..." at the lower-left in the status line, but it never completes or times out, and I don't get any new messages, even though I can login to webmail and see that there are new messages.

I've quit and restarted Thundbird, I've paused my Eset Smart Security firewall, and I've rebooted.

I tried turning on Thunderbird logging in an elevated cmd window with: C:\WINDOWS\system32>set NSPR_LOG_FILE=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\tbird_log.txt C:\WINDOWS\system32>set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=POP3:5,IMAP:5,SMTP:5 C:\WINDOWS\system32>start thunderbird

Thunderbird eventually went into offline mode and I exited, but I don't know how to read the log file properly.

This is on Windows 10 Home. I did get a significant Windows Update overnight: Version 1709 and an update to it, KB40058043. I noticed this morning that I had a Windows Mail app in my taskbar (which I removed). I'll also say that my wife's PC got the same Windows update, and her Thunderbird client is working fine.

I'm out of ideas how to fix or further analyze this - can someone look at the log file? Since it contains email addresses I don't want to try posting it.

Hey folks, I'm trying to copy some large emails, they have some photos as attachments, from a POP3 account I have on thunderbird to a new IMAP account I set up, which is my Gmail account.

I've tried even just a handful of mails to transfer over, but they seem to be failing after attempting to transfer these larger mails.

Is there any way to do this differently or allow more time for Gmail to accept them so they copy over without any problems?

Any help would be great!
