I hate it when I click on the url-field and its size change.

It wasn't there in former firefox versions and I did not miss it. It changed some time ago. Any decent software development would have introduced his new feature and provided a "classic" option to turn it off. Not so firefox. Mozilla introduced it and I had to google how to get the old behaviour back. No option.. I have to go to about:config, ignore teh warnings, find some weird options and set them to false and the mozilla turned that off too. Now the was to change it is to set up a css-file, got to about:config again to make firefox actually read that file, place some mystery css-code in there and it still does not work!

Very annoying, an outstanding example of bad practice how to introduce new features and take away users choices.

So: How to stop URL bar from enlarging on click?

Hi,

I had applied the settings to disable the new urlbar features, but as of version 77 these no longer work.

I absolutely hate this change; it does nothing useful, it interferes with viewing the page, and it very much feels to me like change for the sake of change.

If someone can pass this on to whoever makes these unilateral decisions :

Don't make changes to the user interface that are not optional. How do they not understand that changing the UI for hundreds of millions of people is not a good idea?

So my question is, how do I disable the new urlbar "features" and return to a plain static one?

Does anyone know of a SIMPLE solution to stop the irritating expanding address bar from doing just that? At first I could stop it in about:config - but that no longer appears to be possible. Why do Mozilla insist on user no longer having that option. I seem no longer to be able to use Firefox. It seems to be the domain of the computer-tech savvy and not a browser for ordinary jerks like me who don't understand a word of the jargon and have difficulty following what seem to be simple tasks to other users. All I want to do is stop that irritating expanding address bar but it seems like I have to become a fully skilled coder just to be able to get into a regular-joe website. It's not what I signed up for. Help? Anybody...?

Has anyone experienced this issue?

I have set Firefox for macOS to use the default theme in which uses the system colours.

The system goes into dark mode without issue in Firefox, however, Firefox fails to go back to light mode when the system goes back. Currently it is the only application that I have this trouble with and I can not workout what the issue is.

Tried reinstalling Firefox.

I haven't heard anyone else having this issue so now wondering if there is something uniquely wrong with my system or set-up?

I would be grateful for any ideas

i have tried every about:config option there is on google and i still can't disable the expanding URL bar (where once you've entered a asearch, heading back to the bar expands a menu on the right side with a privacy icon, a drop down menu, a pocket icon, and the bookmark icon). very irritating.

i have seen options regarding the userChrome file but i'm inexperienced and probably messing something up.

any help would be much appreciated.

Please change back the URL bar ever since it was added a month ago or whenever it has been SO annoying. I'm about to change browsers because I cannot stand it anymore. It is visually unattractive and obnoxious looking.

Also, highlighted text in it is a blue font color with no highlight. Why is this different from every other Windows program?? It is not easy to tell that text is highlighted. It should be HIGHLIGHTED blue with a white font color.

Hi,

I really really really hate the new address bar. In the last update it appeared in my browser and I had been able to make it go away with changing the following settings to false;

   browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
   browser.urlbar.update1
   browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
   browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips

I'm not sure if something updated between last night's shutdown and this morning's bootup but the ugly giant bar is back again and when I checked those settings in config they're all set to false. I tried toggling them true to false again but I can't get the old style bar back. I don't really want to revert to an older version as I know that's not secure. Does anyone have a way to get the bar back to how it used to be or is it time to use another browser?

Thanks!

I don't like the megabar, and I have looked around to see if there are any fixes for the most recent Firefox 77 update that forces that user to have it (like at least one other update, it just assumes that people like it). I have tried using the userChrome.css file, but that didn't work. I have also tried going into about:config, which also didn't work. Is there any possible way to say 'I never want to see this megabar again in my life'? Or a way to tell the devs that it should NOT be a default option on new updates? Or a way to turn it off that will always be around, unlike the about:config deal? Any help would be great. I attached an image of the megabar.

Hi all,

I reinstalled windows on my laptop and I did not backed up my Mozilla bookmarks, because I have an account and I am signed in. Chrome stores everything under my account and restores it all (forms, credentials, bookmarks) into the new browser, when I log into my account, so this is why I did not back up in Mozilla.

When I reinstalled mozilla on the new OS, and logged into my account, my bookmarks are completely gone. Is there a database that could restore my bookmarks? I had hundreds of them, most of them using for work and it would be a tremendous help if I could recover them.

I tried accessing my account and see if there's an option to restore. No luck. I tried going to logins & passwords to see any settings that might help. No luck. I tried to search on other devices that I use, for Mozilla bakups. No luck.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi,

I've encountered my fair share of bugs. I'm also disabled, so I need a lot of safety and accessibility fixes to use any browser.

Debugging advice often involves ""safe" mode," which disables some safety and accessibility tools, or "refresh Firefox," or otherwise using new profiles, which require me to set up the safety and accessibility tools before I can do anything. (For example, by default Firefox uses blinking cursors, autoscroll, and smooth scrolling, all of which trigger my migraines.)

In the past I've sometimes copied specific items, or cleared out a new profile folder and copied everything from an already-set-up profile folder.

Are there better or worse ways to copy bookmarks, saved passwords, about:config settings, user css, add-ons, and add-on settings?

(The previous time I asked this, I somehow got diverted to the wrong forum.)

You all may have read at least one time something about the session restore on closing or something known as the old "showQuitWarning" in the about config.

I'm not here to submit again this issue, but I would like to let you know that a lot of users worldwide are still experiencing the lack of this old feature... here you can see an example from the mozilla italian support forum ... and there are many more.

For completeness, i'll quickly resume the issue:

in the previous versions of firefox, enabling the "showQuitWarning" label in the about:config menu used to produce the following behaviour: -> when closing firefox with more than one tab open a confirmation box appeared showing 3 options:

     - save and quit
     - quit (without saving the session)
     - cancel

at the reopening of firefox, based on user settings, if it was chosen the "save and quit" option then the previous session used to be restored otherwise a new session would have been created.

To date, there are a lot of configuration to play with regarding session, closing and similar, but nothing covers some use cases that were perfectly covered by the old method, for example: -> the sessions are now always saved, even when the user doesn't want to, even when that session is just useless ->if you set the automatic session restore at each startup then you will have to manually close all the tabs open from the previous session even if you didn't mean to save them, or manually start a new session ->if you don't set the automatic session restore then at the startup you have to remember to manually reopen previous session, if you forget that, or for example your antivirus or an html file you click on, opens your browser and you instinctively close it then next time you open the browser you realize you've lost the session you had to manually restore.

So, please, before archiving this topic, do your own research on this subject and try to understand that could be something important. Let's make this community intercept users needs and show what a community means (that was the key aspect of the golden years of firefox)... let's prevent together other migrations to chrome or the new edge.
