Firefox 6.0.2: Periodic freezes every minute (60")

My problem is as follows: everything worked fine with my Firefox on all my computers. All of them were sync'ed with firefox sync (including my mobile).

Then, on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit desktop (Q9450 CPU, 4Gb of RAM, Asus P5KC motherboard Intel P35-based), I replaced the motherboard and the CPU. Obviously I reinstalled Windows from scratch and Firefox as well. From plugins, I installed only Adblock plus with the Easylist and malwaredomains lists. The same plugin (along with others) were installed previously on my desktop. I initiated a new sync and my bookmarks and everything obviously appeared ok.

On this new hardware platform (Q9650 CPU, 8Gb RAM, Asus Rampage Extreme, Intel X48-based) I experienced strange freezes, which felt that they ranged from 10" to 30". These happen while I am trying to do an action, like fill in a form for example. Firefox does not freeze while it is idle. When this freeze takes place, it affects only firefox. Nothing else gets affected. Made a clean uninstall, re-installed with only adblock plus and enabled firefox sync. Same issue...

It drives my crazy because both the motherboard and the cpu are better than the one I used to have. The system is not overclocked. All my other firefox installations work perfectly.

I should add that I also tried checking with certain sqlite commands the integrity of all sqlite databases. All were ok. Additionally, I deleted this system from sync, completely uninstalled ff, deleted the relevant Application data subdirectories and made a fresh install, only with adblock plus and re-enabled sync. Same issue. Also tried using other memory DIMMs. Same thing again.

Atm, it feels like this is either motherboard related OR there is a "blocker" somewhere. What strikes me a lot is that it works perfectly on all my other computers (remember that all of them are firefox sync'ed) and that the problem appears on the strongest of these machines...

I've read some bug reports in bugzilla that *seem* to be similar to mine, but can't quite correlate the same. Then I stumbled an excellent process explorer from winternals (mentioned in this thread here as well), which you can get from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

Running this process explorer along firefox I noticed that initially all seem fine. Selecting View -> System Information I watched what happened while browsing. Initially, browsing causes some small spikes. Then something *very* strange happens (see attached pic):

Every 120" cpu load rises for approximately 60".
During the 60" cpu peak, firefox exhibits the freezing
firefox is ok during the rest (120-70=50") of the time only!

Note that this behaviour does not appear immediately at firefox start, but rather appears later on. I can not pinpoint the exact cause at this point. Once this 2 minute cycle starts, it does not stop until firefox exits!

Perhaps this should be submitted as a bug directly, but it felt like I had to gather some expert opinion here to help me and the devs on this.

EDIT: Updated info. From sysinternals, I can see that when the 60" peaks take place, cpu time is dominated by thread MOZCRT19.DLL (see 2nd screenshot). During that time, the following seem to be causing the peak:

mozsqlite3.dll!sqlite3_reset+0x2db1 mozsqlite3.dll!sqlite3_step+0xd9 xul.dll!?CanUseOpaqueSurface@Layer@layers@mozilla@@QAEHXZ+0x1d81 xul.dll!?CanUseOpaqueSurface@Layer@layers@mozilla@@QAEHXZ+0x1c58 xul.dll!?CanUseOpaqueSurface@Layer@layers@mozilla@@QAEHXZ+0x1bc6 xul.dll!NS_GetXPTCallStub_P+0xb59 xul.dll!?IsOriginalCharSkipped@gfxSkipCharsIterator@@QBEHPAH@Z+0x28f9a xul.dll!?GetEffectiveClipRect@Layer@layers@mozilla@@QAEPBUnsIntRect@@XZ+0x659 MOZCRT19.dll!_endthreadex+0x78 MOZCRT19.dll!_endthreadex+0x106 ntdll.dll!RtlInitializeExceptionChain+0x63 ntdll.dll!RtlInitializeExceptionChain+0x36

I don't care for firefox updates, trying to be bigger and better than the competition, I get it. However, each update is 100% incompatible with Java and in case the individuals who collaborate and makes such updates are unaware, the entire world wide web uses Java. Why would anyone want to use firefox when they can't even use the internet?

Firefox 6.02 crashes or just disappears/closes randomly all the time after it is open for a while. It crashes randomly at any website. Firefox also never generates any crash reports after it crashes or disappears even though I have the option to generate crash reports turned on which is very frustrating. I performed virus and spyware scanning on my pc and never had any issues found. I also checked to see if I had the latest plugins and add-on's. I had this same random crashing problem with the 6.0 and 6.01 versions also.

I have successfully been using dropbox to sync Firefox profiles across multiple computers - basically the method was to create a folder in dropbox, copy there the contents of my profile and create new profiles pointing to that folder in my various (windows) machines. Since FF 4 however I have this problem :on start-up of FF on a given machine not all Add-ons are enabled, with FF reporting that some are incompatible with current FF - On running 'Check for Updates' the so called incompatible Add-ons report that they will be enabled when Firefox is restarted, which without downloading any updates they successfully are.

Not all add-ons are affected. I suspect there is a corrupted file somewhere. I slightly modified the question found here : http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=41983&replies=2#post-349997

NB: syncing with DB is equivalent to manually copying the profile folder from machine to machine and creating a new profile. No reason why it shouldn't work - if one does not browse on 2 machines simultaneously and lets DB sync before launching FF - so please do not answer that this is a DB problem. Also - may be a problem with particular add-ons (some of them had this problem in FF 4, 5 and 6)- but before posting to their threads I post here in case there is a easy solution.

EDIT: confirmed not a DB issue (see title) Profile in custom folder - FF 7.0.1

Thanks

I switched from IE to Firefox and so far, love it. When I accessed one of my banks online on IE, no problems. Thru Firefox, it asks me a security challenge question every time. I contacted the bank and was told I need to set the security level to at least medium and then I won't be challenge on this computer anymore. That is unique to IE. What settings should I modify in Firefox to make the browser comparable to "medium"?

Thank you, Nancy

I'm used to typing search terms in the middle box on the toolbar (the one with the "bookmark" star) and automatically getting to a list generated by Google. Now it's suddenly defaulted to Ask with no reason. Ask is awful. How do I change it back? I've removed Ask from the 'manage search engines' tab in the top right box so I can use that box instead but that's not the way I'm used to doing things and it's changed with no intervention from me! Thanks!

I have the latest Flash plug-in and Firefox 6.0.2. Flash files from YouTube work. However, Flash in Flowplayer -- using RTMP streaming -- does not load.

The following page works with latest version of Flash in IE 9:

http://www.3xconversionformula.com/replay/short

However, it simply will not load in Firefox.

I do NOT have any ad blocking plugins, etc.

The Flowplayer page actually allows you to test HTTP vs RTMP vs no streaming and Firefox hangs on RTMP. So, I believe I have found out what the bug is for you, but updating Flash will not remedy the situation. It seems to be a Firefox problem.

On a Mac Book pro - running 10.6.8

Firefox was fine until the last couple of updates that happened without my consent (?).

Suddenly there were weird errors and crashes of Flash and slow loading pages. Now it's gone into rubbish mode where the beach ball spins at the slightest fast type or double-click and then all i can do is force quit. It's as if it can't cope with anything anymore. How do i uninstall and keep my bookmarks etc and re-install an earlier version of it as it was before it got updated? Thanks

This was an option in previous versions of Firefox. What sense does it make to remove functionality?

I don't want to have to middle click my home button, and it's absolutely ridiculous to have to install an extra addon to restore basic features that were included in versions that came out 5 years ago.

What's the deal?

I have just updated from FF4.1 I believe, to ff6.02. before the update started, the update window showed a message stating that two of my add-ons where not compatible with the new version of FF. I clicked ok and the update continued. The update was completed and had closed and everything seem to be completed successfully and then a window opened on my desktop, headed Checking Add-on Compatibility. This window stayed open for some time without finishing, for over 15 minutes. After some time with nothing happening, I clicked Close, then FF restarted with version 6.02 but with absolutely No Add-ons. They have ALL vanished. Please advise how I can recover them. Thanking you in anticipation of your assistance.

I contacted TD Bank and they said that my account was fine and I was not locked out and there were no security issues. I then called Time Warner and they checked my service and said nothing was wrong with my service and that it sounded like it was from my server since I was going through Firefox, I should call you guys and see if it is the problem.
