I don't want to upgrade to 66.0.4. I enabled the "studies" option in my prefs, but there are no entries in that panel. Is there any reason Mozilla won't issue a fix for the certificate issue for recent older versions? This is ridiculous. I'm sure there are many folks who prefer older versions.

Just had to rewrite this post because this site inadvertently refreshed screen and lost my content!
I used Firefox 56.0.2 because I NEED to use legacy add-ons that ensure security and safety, these add-ons have no alternative in Quantum and no update. All of my other Add-ons have versions that support this edition of Firefox.
TODAY three of my important Firefox add-on were DISABLED BY FIREFOX, with no warning or caution and without my authority.
The updates were
LASTPASS UBLOCK ORIGIN GHOSTERY
I think it is extremely unlikely that these three companies unilaterally and randomly all decided to stop using the add-ons on the SAME DAY. I might have left those companies reviews expressing my concern by now that they have been disabled I can’t leave a review. So there is this fake positive picture painted of reviews on Mozilla site.
So I can only presume that it was MOZILLA FIREFOX that FORCED this on me, pitting my loyalty of one set of add-ons with another.
I am DISGUSTED by this behaviour from Mozilla, oh yes I am sure they will want to blame the add-on providers but it will be under their suggestion, rules or whatever.
I still can’t update the legacy add-ons (which still work) nor is there any alternative in Quantum.
I was quite happy in my time shell using add-ons I trusted and relied upon, that are secure in their own right, SO WHY IS MOZILLA MESSING WITH ME.
I can guess the responses will be just go ahead an upgrade Firefox, but WHY SHOULD I BE FORCED KICKING AND SCREAMING into a version of Firefox that does not meet my needs.
The bigger question is WHY WOULD I TRUST MOZILLA FIREFOX when they can mess with my productivity and give me this problem at their whim when I can choose Opera, Chrome in all of it’s variants and not have this kind of problem. They may be as bad but they have not hurt me already.
So before I go I have to ask this community if they can help me.
1. Is there a fork of the old firefox that allows the install of legacy versions of add-on, i.e. one that does not have Mozilla poking it’s nose in? 2. Is there a setting in About Config that may enable me to override this disabling of the above add-ons?
I have not listed the legacy add-ons that still work because they are clearly not the problem and I am sure that there are many thousands of users that have different legacy add-ons that face this same problem.
It was bad enough that EVERY time I used firefox I got these “your version of firefox is critically out of date” nagware messages and that even after closing them I got more nagging when I scrolled done.
It is MY computer, MY risk, MY choice, if I can’t TRUST Mozilla to let me work in peace then I really do not think I can risk using a later version of Firefox.
If anyone has any constructive advice THAT ANSWERS MY QUESTIONS ABOVE to get this working again I would appreciate it.
I am really frustrated. I have several add-ons in my Mozilla/Firefox and today about 10:30 and over half of them dissapeared from my toolbar.

I am really frustrated. I have several long time add-ons in my Mozilla/Firefox and today about 10:30 am over half of the disappeared from my toolbar. When I look them up in my add-ons menu, over 3/4 of them say Mozilla could not verify them and they have been disabled. Why Why Why? I am using version 56.0.2 (64-bit) because I use alot of my add ons for youtube and the updated versions loses them. It will not let me reinstall them. What is going on??????

I have been using Reminder Fox for ages, and deliberately use and do not update the most recent version of Firefox that supports it. Today I suddenly get a message that it can't be verified for use with Firefox and has been disabled. No warning, no consultation, no chose! Yet another example of arrogant 'we know better than you' attitude. This is unacceptable. I have multiple up-coming medical and other appointments etc which are now unavailable. The hotfix appears to have been applied and I have reset the verification requirement to false and restarted Firefox. Still no sign of Reminder Fox. If it can be remotely disabled then it should be able to be re-enabled. It is my risk and my right to run whatever I wish on my own computer and it is not the prerogative of Mozilla or anyone else to unilaterally and without consultation to over-ride my decision. I am forced to ask for help in this forum as it appears to be impossible to actually ask FireFox support any questions. The options provided by Mozilla are unhelpful. There is no reasonable alternative with the functionality that Reminder Fox offers, and no alternative that will even accept Reminder Fox data. The developer is no longer in business - probably driven to quit by the actions of Mozilla development! I would be most grateful to anyone who can provide either a fix for this problem, or a method of contacting Mozilla support.

I have been using an add-on for a game I play for many years now. I trust it very much. I have to keep an earlier version of the firefox browser to use this. It has been working fine however, three times now within a week after rebooting my PC, it gets disabled without permission and without the option to re-enable it. I have been an avid user of Firefox for over a decade. I truly hope this can be resolved cause I really don't want to have to use Chrome. I hate it but if that is what I have to use for my add-on to work, I will.
Another add-on that is being disabled with no option to turn back on is my anti-virus. This is unacceptable. Please resolve this issue.

Updates – Last Updated: 17:04 EDT May 9, 2019
A less technical blog post about the outage is also available. If you enabled telemetry to get the initial fix, we’re deleting all data collected since May 4. (May 9, 17:04 EDT)
Mozilla CTO Eric Rescorla posted a blog on the technical details of what went wrong last weekend.
Updates – Last Updated: 19:28 EDT May 8 2019
We’ve released Firefox 66.0.5 for Desktop and Android, and Firefox ESR 60.6.3, which include the permanent fix for re-enabling add-ons that were disabled starting on May 3rd. The initial, temporary fix that was deployed May 4th through the Studies system is replaced by these updates, and we recommend updating as soon as possible. Users who enabled Studies to receive the temporary fix, and have updated to the permanent fix, can now disable Studies if they desire.
For users who cannot update to the latest version of Firefox or Firefox ESR, we plan to distribute an update that automatically applies the fix to versions 52 through 60. This fix will also be available as a user-installable extension. For anyone still experiencing issues in versions 61 through 65, we plan to distribute a fix through a user-installable extension. These extensions will not require users to enable Studies, and we’ll provide an update when they are available.
"Updates – Last Updated: 11:51 EDT May 8 2019 (From Mozilla Blog)
Firefox 66.0.5 has been released, and we recommend that people update to that version if they continue to experience problems with extensions being disabled. You’ll get an update notification within 24 hours, or you can initiate an update manually.
An update to ESR 60.6.3 is also available as of May 8th. We’re continuing to work on a fix for older versions of Firefox, and will update this post and on social media as we have more information."
A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061).
There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week. More information about the remaining issues can be found by clicking on the links to the release notes above. (May 5, 16:25 EDT)
"Last Updated: 00:54 EDT May 5 2019
Updates:
Some users are reporting that they do not have the “hotfix-update-xpi-signing-intermediate-bug-1548973” study active in “about:studies”.
Rather than using work-arounds, which can lead to issues later on, we strongly recommend that you continue to wait. If it’s possible for you to receive the hotfix, you should get it by 6am EDT, 24 hours after it was first released.
For everyone else, we are working to ship a more permanent solution. (May 5, 00:54 EDT)
There are a number of work-arounds being discussed in the community. These are not recommended as they may conflict with fixes we are deploying. We’ll let you know when further updates are available that we recommend, and appreciate your patience. (May 4, 15:01 EDT)"

I have 32gb ram so why cant firefox use 20gb? Firefox often max out at 7gb like the image, but once or twize i had it 9gb, but very rare, so why must my firefox lag using 7gb ram when it have another 15gb to pick from ? This is not about how to make firefox faster byt removing, resetting or that yada yada that google shove in your face when you search, I would rather increase ram to make it faster...If I upgrade to 64gb can i get firefox to use 50gb+ of ram ?
If so how do i do that, i feel like I always have lost of ram free, but firefox still lag instead of taking more ram to make it self go faster

Hi, Firefox and Mozilla. Please help me!! This is my problem :
All download links and Firefox Add-On searches and downloads do not work. Downloads give me an immediate bouncing arrow icon and a yellow dot with the subheading "FAILED".
I have tried everything for 4 days now. Firefox Add-Ons do not load and Add-On searches do not show any results for any search and always gives me the message "COULD NOT FIND ANY MATCHING ADD-ONS".. I have installed and uninstalled every version of Firefox I could get to fight this and nothing works. From the latest version to versions several years old. All with the same results. They do not download files from download links and they do not search and download Firefox Add-Ons.
I have used every scan I could from Avast to Malwarebytes with every setting possibility It's still the same. I've done whatever solutions I've found on your site and every other I could find with no help. Nothing has changed since this all started a week ago today.
Download links on every site including all downloads of .exe programs do not download and are marked "FAILED". I get a bouncing arrow icon with a yellow dot immediately when I click the download links.
With site after site I get this same result. Example pages I've included below include the download links on these photo editing sites and freeware download sites, but all sites I visit give the same response. :
1)
This photo manipulation site and download link :
https://demos.algorithmia.com/colorize-photos/
2)
This other photo manipulation site and download link :
https://www269.lunapic.com/editor/saveas.php
3)
This freeware download site and either of these two download links :
https://www.partitionwizard.com/download/v11/pw11-free.exe
https://www.minitool.com/download/pdr81/pdr81-free.exe
4)
This freeware download link :
https://www.blender.org/download/
None of these links work. I get the bouncing arrow and yellow ball and the subheader "FAILED". And no Firefox Add-On can be searched for or downloaded for installation. Please help. I completely need downloads and Firefox Add-Ons for my life on computers. I cannot operate my computers without download ability or my Firefox Add-Ons.

I am very disappointed and angry that you have decided to totally get rid of Personas and force Firefox Color on your users. I have tried Firefox Color and absolutely hate it. I tried to make my own theme with an image stored on my pc and could not get it to display correctly. There is absolutely no help for your shitty FF Color or any way of increasing or decreasing custom image sizes. I liked the old Personas Plus better and hardly had any trouble with them all the years I've been using them. Now I can't even view my favorites or collected Personas on my version of Firefox (which is 56) on the addons site. I know that this issue has been fixed with newer versions of FF, but I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to update FF anymore thanks to your idiocy with removing a great deal of addons that I use almost daily. Bring back Personas and get rid of FF Color!!!!

I decided to finally try Firefox Quantum hoping that some of the features that were removed from the previous versions would have finally made their way by now, but right after installing it I got stuck trying to restore the status/add-on bar.
The only thing I found was a way to place a bottom bar using userChrome.css: http://www.optimiced.com/en/2018/02/11/restore-status-bar-in-firefox-quantum/ But this is pretty much useless as it doesn't allow me to move any button to it.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I've read a forum post somewhere from last year saying that some code would be introduced to Firefox that would allow extensions to fix this issue—is it true? Was it done?
Back to Firefox 56 for now.

I could find no way of registering this major complaint, and was only further irritated by the obtuse approach to feedback ("Firefox makes me sad/makes me happy") - I'm posting this hear so that actual people will read it, others will be about to websearch its discussion, and something might change:
When Firefox has had trouble loading, it sometimes displays an innocuous looking dialogue box asking whether you'd like to run in safe mode or "refresh Firefox". What it is actually asking is if you would like to wipe Firefox, erase your profile, return to factory settings. I previously made the infuriating mistake of choosing refresh because that term is understood to mean 'reload' e.g. refresh a web page, like switching something off then on again—not erasing something and replacing it with a blank empty slate.
As this happened a while back and I'm not risking it again by clicking the option, I don't recall what the full description was but it certainly did not make clear what "refreshing" entailed and to have it presented as a solution for something so minor and nonproblematic as loading slower than usual only ensures more and more users will fall victim to this. Considering the browser defaults to warning the user when they're closing tabs, it's absurd that such a nuclear option is suggested so flippantly and without transparency.
