I've had a lot of trouble with newer web sites which don't scroll right.

First, many of them contain elements, such as a top bar, which won't scroll with the rest of the page. Depending on the size and position, this is distracting, and this means the scrolling and non-scrolling parts sheer against each other too close to the middle of the window. This can cause extra eye strain.

Second, many of them contain elements, such as a top bar which changes size when I start scrolling, or items which pop up in the corners, which will animate. This can cause migraines.

If I can force whole pages to scroll as one unit, without these sheer effects and animation effects, it would reduce my eye strain, avoid some of my migraines, and replace several ad-hoc fixes.

Any idea how to do this?

I was trying to import my passwords from an old firefox 56 profile by replacing the key3.db and logins.json files (as per the instructions given here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile#w_passwords). But when I looked at "saved logins" in about:preferences in the quantum installation once the two files were copied over no logins were added at all! I'm certain that the both the source and destination I used were correct.

How to turn off the annoying 'findbar' which pops up at bottom of pages while doing a simple search?

I am using Firefox 52.9.0 (64-bit) virus/malware free. While attempting a search in the search bar on top right of page (any website) a quick 'findbar' appears on the bottom of the page, hijacks what is typed above and attempts to take over our searches. This is not an add on or extension. We have 'provide search suggestions' turned off. This bar at the bottom is annoying, showed up on the latest Firefox update in June of 2018. This bar is not on IE, Chrome or my MacBookPro Firefox, only our PC. How do we remove this? Thank you.

I had my version of Firefox set up so no updates would be installed of even checked for. And yet this add-on bug affected my version of Firefox. It is apparent the Mozilla ignores the settings for no updates because my add-ons were disabled even though my Firefox was not even supposed to check for updates. I am running v52esr because I need some legacy add-ons that have now been disabled. This appears to be an underhanded & dishonest way Mozilla has come up with to force people to upgrade.

So when firefox is running slow or crashes, it usually suggests that I refresh the browser. This involves opening the menu, then clicking troubleshooting programs and the refresh firefox. Doing this, usually works. But, for about two months now, I can't refresh.

What usually happens is the browser will close, a new window will pop up, saying it's refreshing, and then the browser would open right back up. But, since March(when this problem started) the browser would NEVER open again. I sat for almost two hours the last time I tried. I even tried to reopen it in a bunch of different ways, but it never would. I usually have to restart my whole computer.

It's still running slow and will crash every now and then. I don't really want to reinstall the browser because I'm not 100% sure how to get my profile back and I have a lot of unsaved bookmarks I can't lose.

I really hope someone can help.

Hi folks,

This just started where several issues occur.

First, Windows 10. Edge, Internet Explorer and Waterfox have no problems. But 3 versions of FF all have the same issues. Both 32 and 64 bit, installed and portable.

1. Cannot open MSN.com. In general says This Page is Not available right now. 2. MANY pages like Amazon and Twitter should just text in left aligned columns, no html. Linked In as well. Very few pages open normally. 3. Some pages show Secure Connection Fail. Sec_error_bad_signature.

I have rebooted. Restarted FF in Safe Mode. Turned off my AntiVirus. No changes at all. I rolled back the latest Win 10 roolu[ and no changes. Cleared recent history. Flushed DNS.

My windows 7 computer with same FF installs on same network has no issues at all. On Win 10 I would say half the pages I visit work. No rhyme or reason.

Please help. Leaving on a trip with this computer and need the functionality.

Thanks.

~Bob

for some reason (or due to FF refresh or due to setting Windows to an older date) I lost all my FF bookmarks. I do not see how a Windows system restore should effect my FF browser bookmarks... (and yes, in Chrome I still have them all).

Is there a way to restore/revert FF to an older date (ie just to yesterday before applying all these changes)?

(Note, I have browsed tens on FF forums asking similar question and got all kind of experts instructing how to import from Chrome, from Windows, how to refresh, and all sort of self-explanatory items. This is not the case. I would like someone to instruct me in simple English how to "restore firefox to an older date with bookmarks", ie get my bookmarks how they were in firefox just yesterday, if there is any way. Maybe get also the plug-inns and extensions. Maybe. Chrome, hmmm, seems to work just fine. I should conclude more.

Once upon a time, Mozilla was the first. Then Mozilla got stupid and Netscape was born. Now Mozilla/Firefox is doing it again. No Java? Really?

I have read almost all of the responses from the "top" contributors on this forum. Do you guys think most of us are stupid, some of us are stupid, or most of us are idiots? You have zero proof that what you are saying is fact. You need to just admit you don't want to support Java plug-ins. A lot of programming done in the most popular programming language on this planet is JAVA. Browsers are not just for cruising the internet.

Java wasn't a problem before but now it is? What changed?

I have XP SP3 and FF 52.5.2 ESR. I wish to uninstall and reinstall Firefox shown as Mozilla Firefox 34.0 (v X86 en-us) in my Control Panel but "Remove" does not respond, neither does the "helper" file in the Firefox program list as suggested elsewhere in this forum. The trouble for me seemed to begin with the update to 52.5.2 ESR and removal of the Norton toolbar. Since then Forefox is very slow. I have refreshed Firefox as suggested but it makes no difference. A silly thing I may have done is downloaded and installed Firefox's advertised new faster program shown on the start page which for me is FF 52.5.2 ESR again. So maybe I have that twice.

I am a technophobe and wish to know if I can delete "Mozilla Firefox" fom my XP Program files and then reinstall FF 52.5,2 for which I have downloaded the setup file and have it ready. Also do I need to delete the Mozilla Maintenance file (0.23 MB) which is a separate folder in the Control Panel and in Program files - will that appear again on reinstall of Firefox?

I've tried all the fixes and settings that Mozilla suggests (hardware accelerator unchecked, clear cache, start in safe mode and disable/enable add ons to see if the problems is solved, refresh firefox, reinstall firefox). I'm using firefox esr 32 bit(to keep access to java). The refresh or reinstall seems to work for a day or two, then back to taking 45 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes to load first page on startup. This does not happen loading firefox start page, but does when I try to get to another website, or when getting any kind of search result from firefox start page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Corperate softwarw download. so saying download another version is not going to help and it would not fix the issue.

so i download the version available Firefox ESR V2.4.8 - 2.4.5 (CCK2)

now for some reason it thinks i want FF in french I do not. and i do not have any idea why it chose french.

my location in Germany. my operating language is English. others in the office are German and and have German operating systems and they get FF in German. what gives?

yes i have been to Contenu - Langues - and selected English but as you know that only tells what language to show the pages in and has no bearing on the UI.

so back to the French would it have picked up on my corp. user name? or may family name? which just so happens to be French.

oh expect loads of spelling errors in this as the spell check is working overtime in FRENCH.

BUT FF is going that deep into the user info that is not good. So how do i change the language in the UI.

regards Nick

Why is the version number no longer at the top of the page alongside the addon name? I've been using ESR, and now I want to transition to Quantum, so I'm trying to investigate and collect addons for Quantum. It would make things easier if the version number and late update date was there as well.

Periodically, I see a message bar at the top of the Firefox browser window, with a heart icon followed by the text "Your Firefox is critically out of date. An update is required to stay secure.", followed by a button with the text "Update Now", followed by a hyperlink-like item with the text "Learn More".

The two assertions made in the message strongly suggest, in a common sense reading, that Mozilla is aware of evidence that the browser application being used is *critically* out of date, and that there is a reasonable belief that a known specific flaw in that version of the application could be exploited, making the application insecure.

I think it is reasonable to assume, in the context of this message bar, that the "Learn more" link would explain the nature of the critical security flaws in the current version -- but, instead, the link navigates to a page about a data collection initiative by Mozilla (which itself, ironically, represents some insecurity for the user's privacy, in my opinion).

So, I am left wondering two things: (1) Does the message really indicate that critical security issues have been identified with the version of the application the user is currently running? (2) How can the user *conveniently* view information about those issues before deciding whether updating is justified for their circumstances?

Several days ago, I noticed that WinPatrol was asking about file association changes. After a few minutes, Outlook stopped working. I rebooted and everything seemed fine. A Webroot scan revealed no virus, but I downloaded Malwarebytes, and it identified a real-time threat, which I quarantined. The next morning, MB identified Firefox's prefs.js as a threat, and I quarantined it. Same for the last several days. Someone apparently closed the MB report window yesterday before I did the daily quarantine, and this morning, Outlook was not working. I quarantined prefs.js, and all is now well -- for the time being. Webroot support says MB is coming up with a false positive, but they cannot find what is causing the computer to misbehave, even after a 2-hour remote access session. I scanned the bad version of the file through www.virustotal.com, and it came up clean on all AV programs, including MB (even though the MB scan on my computer said it was a PUP). Interestingly, virustotal said Webroot cannot process this file. I am using Firefix version 52.3.0, which is the latest one that works with XP SP3. I have the same OS and Firefox version on two other machines, and have no problems on them. An MB scan on one of those machines does not consider prefs.js to be a threat. Any help will be appreciated.

I lost quite a few bookmarks from the last 6-7 months in a couple of folders. There may be more but that's what I've noticed so far. I think this happened a few days ago when it was syncing. I have since uninstalled FF on my Android. I have back ups on both json and HTML. The question though is, do the back ups retain the "description" entered for each bookmark? That's important for me.

Needless to say, I'm confused and kinda livid.
