My question is similar to "Java Plug-in for JRE7u21?" but all the suggestions there that worked are for Windows, and I'm on a Mac, and I don't want to hijack that thread. For the record, that thread is /questions/958847. aw

I have Mac OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, Firefox 24.0, which says it's up to date, and Java 7 update 45, also up to date. I only want answers for Mac OS X, not Windows, not Linux.

The online Java test works OK in Safari but not in Firefox. Firefox thinks Java is not installed. There's no "Java Applet Plug-in" in the plug-ins list.

Since Safari is OK, I assume there's a bug in Firefox. Can we narrow it down by identifying which combinations of versions (of Mac OS X, Firefox and Java) have the Java plug-in and which don't?

My Firefox is completely unresponsive. I can't get a browser or anything. I just grabbed the application folder and threw it in the trash, because the add/remove program function did nothing. I also cannot download the newest version of Firefox. It tries, but then says, "Your download was interrupted".

How can I make sure I've removed ALL of the old Firefox and what can I do to download the new one?

Each time I do a google search in firefox, and click on any of the suggested sites, I get a large pop-up window with the address www.strtsrv.com, followed by a lot of "rubbish" numbers and letters. I've tried everything fomr blocking this site address in my firefox privacy settings, to going into my "about:config" and making alterations/additions on the "privacy.popups" section as suggested by various help sites, but to no avail. I have checked my firefox and ad-ons and found nothing suspicious there. Am at a loss. The only progress I have made is when the pop-up does appear, I have managed to get firefox not to open the content in the pop-up window, but the empty widow still appears which I then have to remove with a delete click.

Is it something to do with Java?

It is very frustrating. Help!

Does the Network Monitoring component of the Firefox Developer Tools have a way to preserve its log upon navigation (which would otherwise be cleared), similar to the Chrome or Safari Developer Tools "Preserve log upon navigation" button?

I've tried checking the "Enable persistent logs" option for the Web Console in settings, but it does not appear to affect the Network Monitoring tab. I also didn't see any bugs filed for it, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious.

Thanks, Kevin

Firefox started telling me that I needed Adobe Flash to play videos, despite the fact that I have the latest version installed. I followed the instructions to install five times, yet still kept getting the same message. I then reset Firefox and it worked for about half an hour then I got the same message. In desperation I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but am still getting the same message. I am using Windows 7 64 bit, version 24.0 of Firefox and version 11.9.900.117 of Adobe Flash. I have no problems with Internet Explorer or Chrome.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks, John Wafford.

Why has the function of my up & down arrow keys changed? Did I click something by accident? Help please?

(My new kitten *might* have stood on something on my keyboard - she's done that before & put Full Screen mode on, but I managed to fix that)

Normally, I scroll down a web page a bit at a time using the down arrow key on my laptop keyboard. Since yesterday, when I press the down arrow, the page jumps to the bottom (like pressing PageDown would do) and the up arrow jumps all the way back up.

How do I set it back so that it scrolls a bit whilst I press the key?
