I have a Win7/Ubuntu dual boot PC. Before I reinstalled Win7, I reinstalled TB on my D drive (in "D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird"). I also moved my (very large) TB profile to D:\TBirdProfile. Then, I booted into Ubuntu 20.04, installed TB and pointed the Ubuntu TB to D:\TBirdProfile. Viola, it worked after much dinking around. Now I have reinstalled Win7 and reinstalled the Win7 TB program to "D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird" The problem is that when I reinstalled Win7 TB, it created a new profile. I don't want a new profile and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to make thunderbird -p point to my old profile. There are dozens of similar questions on the internet but none of them clarify what specific keys to type to tell TB "Use this profile, not that one!" I've done the %APPDATA% fix but still no luck. I did it under Ubuntu so it can't be that hard, but the steps are so un-intuitive I can't recall how I did it in Ubuntu. I'll gladly make a donation to the TB fund if someone can help me. Thanks

I Googled about stopping using Firefox beta and transition to release version but none of the pages I found in this forum talks about an error message about user profile that only gives me the option to Create a New Profile (therefore losing all my add-ons, cookies, settings and everything) or Exit.

I tried manually googling "download Firefox" and downloaded the release version and after installing it, I get the warning message above. This thread here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1224888 has a link to the rapid release version but I end up in the same warning message.

Since the beta will necessarily always be a newer version than a release version, how do I transition from beta to a release version but preserve all my settings, add-ons and everything if Firefox will tell me that it won't let me use my existing profile in an older version, the release version?

My motivation to leave the beta version is that Firefox started having a bug since 27-Oct-2020 in Google meetings where either a shared screen or the camera image of the person in a meeting appears very zoomed in in the top left corner so it doesn't show the rest of the image.

Unable to import saved firefox profile (from windows 7 32-bit, to windows 10 64-bit) - new profile has none of my data

My attempt at transferring profile from an existing machine to a new machine has not produced the intended result, and I need help.

I saved my firefox profile (on a 32-bit windows 7 machine; firefox was fully up to date) without firefox running, in a ZIP file (the letter number combination followed by dot followed by default), then copied the ZIP file to the new machine (windows 10 64-bit), unzipped it (so I had the same file name as from the old machine), then copied this folder into position at

C:\users\user\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles

I then started firefox on the new machine, went to about:profiles, created new profile, selected the folder (which was present at this step), then completed the procedure and started a new firefox with the new profile (the option given in about:profiles).

The new instance of firefox has none of my data (several thousand bookmarks, passwords, etc.); instead looks like the other (default new) profile.

The existing profile file set was (after this procedure) visible in

C:\users\user\appdata\local\mozilla\firefox\profiles

The restored profile is running now as "Default User" and reflects the folder I transferred from the old machine (except that I changed the word "default" in that folder to "main", leaving the number-letter part and the dot unchanged.)

No errors were indicated from firefox (which is running version 83 now) during any steps of the old back-up/archive save step or the new restore/recover step.

What am I doing wrong? How can I recover my existing profile data? The procedure, while not very friendly, seems straightforward enough. I don't want to go into the details of recovering specific database files/folders; I'd just like the profile I had before functioning in the new machine.

Please help

Dear community, for some days my Firefox 80 on Windows 10 has shown the message "your system administrator has deactivated updates", when I look under "Help" -> "about Firefox". This is strange, because the admin is me myself, and I didn´t change anything in Firefox or in the Win 10 registry. Has anyone of you had this experience, and how can I possibly fix it? Thanks in advance! Pete

I updated T bird to ver 78.4 from whatever was the recent previous version but now have a corrupted profile (doesn't show all Inbox folders). I backed up the profile before the update. It has the same name as the corrupt profile. With Tbird closed, can I just use Explorer to replace the profile with its earlier version? OS is Win 10

After having been upgraded to TB version 78, I've spent the last hour and a half reading through the community help areas and agreeing with users who say their important extensions don't work with Ver. 78 and I want to go back! I've read about "download ver. 68" and follow these X-steps.

Well, I'm stumped at simply trying to locate Ver. 68! I've searched every way I know, and all I find is Ver. 68.12.0 Release Notes. Nowhere can I find "download".

Feel pretty stupid right now if I can't even FIND the Ver. 68 file!

Can someone please direct me to the download file?

Oh, and once I find the file, I read that I'm supposed to uninstall Ver. 78 and then install Ver. 68. What happens to all my emails if I uninstall ver. 78? Won't uninstalling 78 delete them?

TIA, Sewlady

I was gifted an Amazon Fire Tablet to use for an upcoming hospital/rehab stay. I use Firefox on my desktop and Android phone and want to use it on my tablet, but the Amazon store doesn't have the app. Not sure I trust the Amazon Silk browser, but I may have no choice. I am not a tech savvy person! I don't know the difference between a bit, byte, or buttercup. If there is a way to install and use Firefox on my tablet, and sync with other devices, I would like to do so. Please explain how to do it as though you are talking to a 6 year old (who probably knows more about this stuff than I do, anyway). Thanks. rennylloyd

An automatic update on October 23rd from 68.12.1 to 78.4.0 and I can no longer send of receive email. The error message is:

Sending of the message failed. Peer using unsupported version of security protocol. The configuration related to mail.hiwaay.net must be corrected.

I have used Thuderbird with hiwaay.net for 20 years and would prefer to role back to 68.12.1, the update installed on October 1, if possible. Thank you much! Nancy

I was cleaning out my hard drive and deleting old installs of Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable packages, and I almost certainly deleted the one that Firefox relies on.

I then attempted to start Firefox, getting the error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

I uninstalled, following the clean install directions, and deleting the "Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/" directory.

Then, I ran the Firefox Installer, newly downloaded, and when running it, it gives the same error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." Selecting "Restore Defaults" has no effect either way. The installer then appears to complete in the background, and the Firefox directory is created, along with the executable.

When I run Firefox.exe, it seems to load the program, but any address I type in fails to begin loading. This includes websites (www.google.com) and help/utility pages (about:config). I'm therefore unable to change any settings within Firefox.

I then tried re-installing the "Visual C++ 2008" and "Visual C++ 2015-2019" packages in an attempt to restore that DLL, but that had no effect after repeating the same steps above (clean uninstall, re-install). Which VC++ Redist Package should I be re-installing? Ideally, I should be able to just get a copy of VCRUNTIME140_1.dll and place it where Firefox is looking for it.

After removing ver.78 an old ver.68 was installed and the new account was added without any problems on the first try using the settings shown above.

Does this indicate that Thunderbird v.78 is no longer compatible as a POP3 client or is this a serious bug?

With the upgrade to 78, the buttons within the read mail sub-window are driving me crazy. In the past, I had a single button that defaulted to 'reply all', 'reply list' or 'reply' based on how I received the mail. Thus, if it had multiple recipients, clicking it would cause 'reply all' without having to think about it. Now, I have separate buttons and the first one is the basic 'reply', so by habit, I am dropping people off the conversation. I miss the smart reply button! So, I thought I would just go and rearrange the button order, but I can't find any way to move, eliminate or change the buttons in this sub-window. I can change the buttons in the main email bars, but not the ones in the read-mail window. Am I missing something? (FWIW, I have been using Tbird and FireFox since 1999. These last few releases are making me seriously consider if it is time to start looking for a new email and browser. Even Outlook is starting to look good to me again. Please stop deleting things. I don't mind new things 'fancy' things being added, but when you kill old features that we have been using for years, it drives us nuts.) Tony
