To fix another issue I upgraded to Beta and downgraded back to production TB. I now have nothing in my address book. I believe the address book got migrated to a different form when I upgraded to Beta, but I can get it from a backup of the file from before I did all this.

What is the name of the file I need to copy over, and where is it located?

Here is how my settings are set for the address book.

Thanks!

I am on windows 10. My Thunderbird was upgraded automatically from 91.11.0 to 102.0. I've lost all my emails, folders, accounts, and profiles, including Giganews (usenet). I tried re-installing TB 91.11.0 and restoring my profile folder, but I still cannot access my old folders, accounts, or profiles.

What did I do wrong? Is there any way to get back to a working Thunderbird? I have numerous backups of my old Thunderbird profile folder.

Running latest version of Thunderbird. Have 2 email accounts. Open Thunderbird and the secondary one receives, sends all emails and all folders are listed and can be viewed. However, about 2 days ago, the main email account can display all folders and everything can be read. However, the INBOX folder says there are 26 messages, but none can be viewed. When clicking Get Messages, this error message pops up: The current operation in "inbox" did not succeed. The mail server for account xxxxxxxx.net responded: UID FETCH failed. After reaching out for help, I have done the following, but nothing works: Tried Repair Folder, deleted all .msf files, restarted Tbird many, many times including rebooting computer. My current settings are: Thunderbird Version 102.1.2 (64 bit). Previous versions 91.12.0 & 91.2.1 IP Address: 69.127.143.28. Using System Proxy Settings, SMTP Server Port 465, IMAP Mail Server Port 993, SS/TLS, Normal Password. This is Windows 10 Desktop unit. The last thing I wanted to do was uninstall Thunderbird and then reinstall, as I am getting mixed messages regarding losing all previous emails, calendar settings, etc. Any reasonable help would be greatly appreciated.

I want all downloads and files to save to a specific folder on an external hard drive. It used to go there. But now, even when I change the location in "settings" and "about:config", when I save it goes to "Documents". Right now, but say it's set to my desired location, but when I do a "save as" it goes right to "Documents", as if "settings" isn't even there.

How to I get the save location to stay where I want it to be every time?

I was cleaning out my hard drive and deleting old installs of Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable packages, and I almost certainly deleted the one that Firefox relies on.

I then attempted to start Firefox, getting the error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

I uninstalled, following the clean install directions, and deleting the "Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/" directory.

Then, I ran the Firefox Installer, newly downloaded, and when running it, it gives the same error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." Selecting "Restore Defaults" has no effect either way. The installer then appears to complete in the background, and the Firefox directory is created, along with the executable.

When I run Firefox.exe, it seems to load the program, but any address I type in fails to begin loading. This includes websites (www.google.com) and help/utility pages (about:config). I'm therefore unable to change any settings within Firefox.

I then tried re-installing the "Visual C++ 2008" and "Visual C++ 2015-2019" packages in an attempt to restore that DLL, but that had no effect after repeating the same steps above (clean uninstall, re-install). Which VC++ Redist Package should I be re-installing? Ideally, I should be able to just get a copy of VCRUNTIME140_1.dll and place it where Firefox is looking for it.

I'm using Firefox 78.0.2 and i keep getting notices to upgrade. But the last time I upgraded, Firefox changed the locations of my tabs from below the address bar to above the address bar and also changed the behavior of the address bar. It took me a couple of weeks to find the answers and get things back the way they were. I don't want to upgrade Firefox because I have no idea what it might change this time. Is there a way to keep Firefox from sending me upgrade notices when I don't want them?

I tried using Thunderbird to check my Office 365 email, with the following settings

IMAP: outlook.office365.com Port: 143 SSL: STARTTLS

SMTP: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 SSL: STARTTLS

Normal Password

All the settings are retried by Thunderbird once I enter the IMAP and SMTP details.

However upon clicking done, there will be a message saying "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

I have verified the username and password is correct, and also IMAP enabled for this account, but keep getting password wrong message.

After removing ver.78 an old ver.68 was installed and the new account was added without any problems on the first try using the settings shown above.

Does this indicate that Thunderbird v.78 is no longer compatible as a POP3 client or is this a serious bug?

There have been so many complaints and one star reviews about version 79, would it really be so hard to reintroduce version 68 back onto the play store under a new name like "Firefox legacy" or "Firefox classic", so we could run that side by side with 79 until the dismal failure that is version 79 has at least been fixed to the extent that people can decide it's worth changing over, i.e., when the things that are most important to them have been fixed? For me that is a customisable home page because I've set up my own site to be my home page on all browsers on all platforms because (so I thought) nobody would be stupid enough to release a browser that doesn't allow that to be customised, and more access to important addons like adblock plus and the home page button, and, of course, a back button.

You could add a big disclaimer that there would be no security or other updates in the description.

Dear community, for some days my Firefox 80 on Windows 10 has shown the message "your system administrator has deactivated updates", when I look under "Help" -> "about Firefox". When I upgraded from 60 to 68, I had to get all my add-ons back and some had not been updated to the new format. It took a bit of work and asking help on the forums. Will this happen again if I update to 78, i.e. will my add-ons that worked in 68 no longer be functional?

As a related issue, it appears that 78 is still very much a work in progress. For how long will 68 still be maintained an updated? I like it as is and am in no hurry to upgrade.

Thank you.

A PC of mine crashed a couple months ago. I now have a new Windows 10 box, and I need to connect to an email server that has accumulated a lot of email since the crash.

I installed Thunderbird v78.3.1 - it says 32-bit - is there a 64-bit version?

Anyway, on creating the account, I always get the following error:

"Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

I can readily connect via telnet, login and read a message - so, clearly, I know my username and password.

Please, advise. Thank you.

I followed the procedure for "Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer". https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

The "old" computer is windows 10 running Thunderbird 68.12 32 bit. The "new" computer is Ubuntu 20.04 running Thunderbird 68.10 64 bit

The procedure above fails with the following message: "This installation of Thunderbird has a new profile. It does not share email data, passwords, user preferences and address books with other installations of Thunderbird (including Thunderbird, Thunderbird Beta, and Thunderbird Daily) on this computer."

I upgraded the "new" computer to thunderbird 68.12 64 bit with the identical result.

The next step was to start Thunderbird from the command line with the -profilemanager --allow-downgrade switches as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1292795.

Thunderbird starts and the profile from the "old" computer is recognized with all information transferred except for the account passwords. The saved logins list under preferences->passwords->saved passwords is completely empty. The menus here do not provide a means to add new rows. Only edit existing rows.

This result appears to be the same for both 68.10 and 68.12 on the "new" installation. I elected to stay with the default Ubuntu version (68.10)

The menus under account settings do not provide a means to update or change passwords. Attempting to create a new account with the same name produces an error about an existing server with the same name and simply hangs (the "Done" button is gray and is inoperative). Following this procedure: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-pop-imap-account

Not sure how to proceed. The best may be a different command line switch that will preserve the passwords from the "old" installation during the initial startup. An alternative is to fix up the password list in the "new" installation.

If I start with a new profile in "new" computer, the add account procedures work flawlessly.

Suggestions please on a method to resolve this password transfer problem from Windows to Linux.

I have Thunderbird 68 installed on one PC and just installed Thunderbird 78 on another. I was able to configure all the mail accounts etc. OK but having problems with the Address Book. I exported them from Thunderbird 68 (2 files) and that seemed to go OK. I then tried to import them into Thunderbird 78 and it gave some errors but it also created duplicate Address books. 2 Personal and 2 Collected.

How do I have them imported and saved into the Address books that are already there?

Any tips to get this to work?

Thanks
