This is a newer, better version of a question that I previously bungled badly. As of this morning, I was running TB 68.1.0 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Pro (10.0.18362). Every day or two, I was getting a pop-up window warning me that TB couldn't update to the latest version and I needed to download a "fresh copy". This warning had a whiff of strangeness about it, so rather than using the link provided, I downloaded the latest version from the Mozilla site and installed it. Even though I'm now at the latest version on the release channel, I'm still getting the same warning, (see attached screenshot). Is this a legitimate warning coming from TB? If so, what do I need to do to dismiss it?

This has happened a few times now. At first I thought, I thought I did that, must have been confused. Then, must have been on the other machine.
Now, I'm very sure that I was on v 47.0.2 yesterday. Today It says I'm on v 45.0.1 again. This time it was immediately after FF crashed. I can't verify that was true the other times.

I want to return to version 28. Version 29's interface is hideous. I installed the add-on which supposedly makes it look like version 28, but it doesn't.
I have downloaded version 28. All I need to know is: Do I uninstall version 29 before installing version 28, or can I install version 28 over version 29 without uninstalling it first? I want to keep all my bookmarks.
I have already turned off automatic updates.

Thunderbird performed an automatic update to 68.1 from 60.9 today. Upon restart of the program, TB came up in 68.1 with empty fields. No mailboxes. Won't start Options. Can't start Troubleshooter. Everything from 60.9 is gone, and I can't figure out how to bring it all back in 68. I can uninstall 68 and reinstall 60, and everything goes back to normal, but then the automatic update cycle starts again. Please help!

For the last few days my Firefox does not display the downloads window. I have tried to follow the suggestion set out in Firefox Help ie Tools --> Options --> General
But my General Tab doesn't show under Downloads the option to check the box "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file". Under Downloads, the only option shows "save files to Downloads" and "Always ask me where to save files".
Any suggestions on how I can get to --> Downloads the option to check the box "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file".

I've installed flash player multiple times, to no avail. I keep getting the message, I need to install flash player, even though I installed it, and adobe said it was installed successively. I had to do a reset of windows 10 and as a result lost Thunderbird. I have retrieved my Thunderbird profile from "windows.old" and it is now saved on my laptop as well as on a USB stick. I have downloaded Thunderbird again and run it opening the show folder which opens a "current" profile. I have then copied and pasted my "old" profile into the current one. It runs through the process of replacing files etc. all of which seems fine but when I open Thunderbird again none of my information is there. Everything I read on this subject is years old. Is there an up to date process for doing this. Any help appreciated as a lot of information is lost.

Some 2-3 years ago I switched ISP from Sky to Plusnet, but my wife did nothing and continued to use Sky email, and somehow it still worked.
Last week her PC was infected with the new Locky ransomware, attempts to remove the encryption proving fruitless, it was necessary to wipe the disc and restore a 2 month old image.
Everything else is now OK, she still receives email from Sky, BUT IS UNABLE TO SEND MAIL as she has no idea of her password – the couple she uses on sites that are not security risks do not work. I am no longer a customer of Sky for TV or email, and Sky mail now goes through Yahoo, who do not offer support.
So I set her up on my Plusnet account, in accordance with the instructions on their site, but at the end it asks for her Sky password. Stalemate.
I phoned Plusnet support again and was told it would be necessary to cancel the Sky account on Thunderbird, but as they do not support TB, could not tell me how to do so.
Unless somebody here knows how to cancel the Sky mail without knowing user name or password, it looks as though she’ll have to make do with the inconvenience of web mail.

I cannot read the INBOX index because the font in the application windows is miniscule. A capital letter is 2mm high on my 17" screen. No human being can read lettering this small !!!
The addon list under Extensions does not indicate that any have been disabled. I think that I need "No Small Text" and "Theme Font & Size Changer" to become operational.
OR it might be that long ago I changed something in about:config but I'm not a programmer; I don't remember this stuff.

After updating to 61.0 (64 bit) my Home Content options disappeared, leaving a blank page when opening new tabs. From research, I see there should be a Firefox Home Content section in about:preferences#home . Mine has no Firefox Home Content options listed, just options for New Windows and Tabs (see screenshot). I have tried disabling all addons and closing/reopening Firefox but it made no difference.
How do I get my Home Content options back?

How do I get my Address Book back?
I have an Aug copy of <Profiles> that might have the Address Book in it but it will not have all E-mails. What files, exactly, would I need to copy from the Aug Profile to the new copy of Thunderbird to get my Address Book back (if that is possible)?
Any and all help is appreciated. I REALLY do not want to reconstruct my Address Book, it have 700+ addresses...

After many years of using FF, I just found something that shocked me: Baidu Search Update Extension What's this installed with FF installation? Note: I never run Firefox.setup.exe but just extract it using winrar, from "core\browser" remove "features" folder completely then install it. Where can I remove it from install source? Anything related to those Chinese search engines?

I have had this issue since version 43. I am now running version 46.01 on a Mac OS Yosemite and when I reinstall version 46.01 after a few days I get a message that a a newer version already exists. Firefox reports 46.01 and at the time of this comment June-3-2016 there is no newer version. If I reinstall say the next day I don't get the newer version message.
What is changing in Firefox that makes reinstalling the same version believe it is installing over a newer version?
