This one thing makes we simply switch to a different browser. Firefox, downloads and installs updates in the background. OK. It needs a browser restart to be able to setup the update. Not great but OK. But suddenly it would completely disable the user from not using the browser until an update is performed (See Image). But why? Not OK!

I am totally fine with the browser needing a restart to finish update. But why wouldn't Firefox not let me decide when I want that. Until I am ready let me use the browser. I really wish they don't freeze the browser like that.

Is there someone looking to address this issue in a future version? Is this only happening to me?

I recently downloaded and installed new language dictionaries on my Thunderbird application (TB 68.4.1) on two computers running on Windows 10. Since then one English dictionary seems to have been defined as the default. Every time I close one of these applications the dictionary is automatically reset to English. Can I change the default to Dutch ?? Thanks in advance for your assistance - Lange 99

I manage hundreds computers. Many of which are not tied to a specific user (think, library, or school). I recently noticed that many of them are behind a version for firefox (as of writing this, firefox is as 73, and the computer labs are at 72). we do not enforce a policy through GPO or policy.jason. we do no use ESR release. but even with the ESR release. I am seeing the same issue. I could not find any significant detail on the nature of the automatic update process for firefox (how it runs, when it runs, how to tell if it ran or not, logs, etc.. ). I also cannot find anyway I can kick it off programmatically. It seems that it needs to be done while a user is logged in. For me, I need this to update without the user. Can I initiate a update in the background ? can I configure when the update kicks off? where can I look to see logs of when this happens?

I am so incredibly disappointed with thunderbird, long such an excellent email program. WHY did you make it so difficult to load previous profiles? I have read and tried several methods to get old profiles working again, but so far no success. WHY not make an easier way to import them? Over a decade of saved messages, from all relatives, all passwords/logins (I would email myself) and many saved articles and jokes. I am so disappointed they have not made this easier (if indeed it is possible, as yet no article I have followed has worked). So disappointed.

I have been a long time user of Thunderbird. I run multiple computers which I like to network share/backup Thunderbird under my User/AppData/Roaming profile. I have been running Beta versions on all of my computers, but any change to the beta version on my primary machine causes me to have to make beta updates on all the others so my copied profile works. I have also noticed many issues with printing on the current beta versions. I want to get off the beta treadmill and simply install the current stable Thunderbird version. When I do this on a machine I am unable to get any of my current profile to work. I have multiple email accounts and have everything setup exactly as I want it, so starting from scratch on the stable version and loosing all my saved folders and email files would be very painful. Is there a way to install the current stable Thunderbird version and bring over my profile from a beta version (downgrade)? I would love to see some type of export and import that would work between versions, but that doesn't appear to be an option at this time.

I was cleaning out my hard drive and deleting old installs of Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable packages, and I almost certainly deleted the one that Firefox relies on.

I then attempted to start Firefox, getting the error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

I uninstalled, following the clean install directions, and deleting the "Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/" directory.

Then, I ran the Firefox Installer, newly downloaded, and when running it, it gives the same error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." Selecting "Restore Defaults" has no effect either way. The installer then appears to complete in the background, and the Firefox directory is created, along with the executable.

When I run Firefox.exe, it seems to load the program, but any address I type in fails to begin loading. This includes websites (www.google.com) and help/utility pages (about:config). I'm therefore unable to change any settings within Firefox.

I then tried re-installing the "Visual C++ 2008" and "Visual C++ 2015-2019" packages in an attempt to restore that DLL, but that had no effect after repeating the same steps above (clean uninstall, re-install). Which VC++ Redist Package should I be re-installing? Ideally, I should be able to just get a copy of VCRUNTIME140_1.dll and place it where Firefox is looking for it.

Hi, I've followed the instructions closely to migrate my profile onto another machine. Everything is there, all emails and settings are correct for incoming and outgoing servers. I have 2 windows 10 PC's with identical Thunderbird installations. The original one works fine, but the new one cannot receive emails - status just says '(email address) connected to mail.livemail.uk' and stays there.

The only difference is that the new version is 78.0.1 32 bit and the old one is 68.10.0 32 bit Has any kind soul got some ideas? Thanks Chris

Hello,

I used Thunderbird to migrate my university email data. My access to my university email will no longer exist and the file space will be deleted after a deadline given by the university.

This is my first migration experience, so I have some questions:

1) After the university deactivate my email account, I understand that I will be able to access my university emails through Thunderbird, but will I be able to access and download my emails’ attachments in Thunderbird , or do I need to download every email attachment manually to my PC before the university deactivate the account?

2) I have not open some of my university emails, do I need to open all emails before the university deactivate my account to be fully viewable?

3) Following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywJ6eQwhb78, I saved a backup copy of the migration to be able to have a copy of my university email data if I need to buy a new computer. If I activate the backup copy in another device, do I still have access to my emails’ attachments, and be able to download them?

Thanks

I currently use gmail via my Gsuite account. I'm considering installing Thunderbird as a backup and to use when I'm traveling and need to be offline. If I like it I may use it as my primary email client.

I currently get my gmail via POP but some instructions say to change it to IMAP. Is that necessary and what are any downsides to doing so?

Thanks.

I downloaded and installed Thunderbird for my Mac a few hours ago. I successfully set up all email accounts, and for the two smaller accounts, all folders showed up as expected.

However, the larger account is missing many folders. I see a couple of subfolders that appear in grey, italicized text, but no movement in the past 2+ hours. Some don't appear at all.

What is my next step?

My old computer died last week and I've been struggling to get a new computer up and running. I've always used Thunderbird for email and I downloaded the latest version. I just found out that the backup service I've been using forever wasn't backing up my email folders. Please tell me that somewhere in the cloud universe all my email files still exist. I've worked from home for 20+ years and my whole livelihood is in those emails. I can't seem to set up Thunderbird without having passwords emailed to me -- I'm caught in a techo-hell Catch-22. Hi;

Have Thunderbird v78.0.1 (32bit). Tried importing items, (EML format), from Windows Live Mail v2011 Build 15.4.

Used Thunderbird's built in Import Tool. Kept getting: "Can't find other e-mail programs" even though Live Mail is still installed.

Downloaded importexporttools_ng-4.1.0-tb.xpi AND importexporttools-3.3.2-sm+tb(1).xpi. Both show "Not for v78.0.1".

Would someone kindly point me in the right direction so that I can Import Windows Live Mail Accounts & E-Mails into Thunderbird v78.0.1 (32bit)?

Thank You.

I am moving from a Windows 7 PC with TB 68.10.0 to a Windows 10 PC with TB 78.0.1. Following the migration instructions, I copied the Profiles folder in the Appdata directory and placed it accordingly on the new machine. On startup TB tells me that it can't find any profile. Opening the about:profiles pane, it shows the newly created xxxxx.default-release and the migrated xxxxx.default. I choose to activate the old profile and set it as standard profile. Afterwards it opens and displays all old mails and folder structure etc.

Now, when I restart TB, I don't see any mail, folder etc., the menus aren't displayed and also can't change anything nor click on anything. The only way to get TB back is to delete the Appdata folders and restart TB. The same happens when installing TB 68 on the new machine, too. Thus, is there something to observe when migrating from TB 68 to TB 78 and/or switching from TB on Windows 7 to TB on Windows 10?

Your latest upgrade has lost all my business and personal addresses. It also does not recognise or import any of my address books from either saved or backup files of address books and contacts This latest upgrade reeks of Windows forcing unwanted and unnecessary upgrades and changes. As a long time user I am very disappointed with this and if you can't fix this I will look for an alternative. Regards Peter
