Hello,

An update or two (maybe more?) ago, the plus sign with which we add shortcuts to the Firefox browser home page/new tab page disappeared, so now we can no longer add shortcuts on the home page/new tab page. Please help. I am running Firefox Version 129.0.2 (64-bit) on a Windows 11 Pro 64-bit if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Yesterday, I get a screen popup that says" Outlook(formerly Hotmail)" Saying Hotmail will now be Outlook.

I've had Hotmail for maybe 30+ years now? I've always had Firefox open to my inbox, which is Outlook and has been for a year or better.

Since yesterday it will not open up to my inbox. It opens to the MS website showing what I wrote up above and a picture of Outlook.

I've deleted cookies and cache. Also history. Even though I point it to my inbox it just goes to that advertisement. I have the stay signed in box checked and don't show this again. But it does show again and again. I hope there's a way to fix this, pretty sure it not a Firefox issue. Just hoping someone else has had and and found a way around it.

Thanks Daniel B

How to fix the row height of messages and add space to the bottom?

I just updated to the latest version of Thunderbird after not updating for well over a year now, so I'm late to the "hate on Thunderbird devs" party. The font changes, as I'm sure have been mentioned a million times, is a disaster. I've already wasted several hours on this.

I managed to fix the core font size issue with, which fixed MOST of the problems:

layout.css.devPixelsPerPx = 1.12

However, I can't figure out how to increase the row height of the message area. If I switch from Compact mode to Default, everything in the folder pane gets far too big (and, yes, I reset devPixelsPerPx as a test) and the message area rows are too tall.

In addition, I want a few pixels at the bottom of the message area so that when a new message comes in, I see a few pixels of the top of the new message without having to scroll.

If you are having trouble visualizing what I want:

Per row of each message: 1px padding at the top + 18px main area + 1px padding at the bottom (i.e. 20 px total). After the last row: 3px (or so) to display just enough pixels to show the next message whenever it arrives.

Using the browser toolbox, I see that the height of each row is defined using an inline style. So I can't apply CSS to fix it globally in a custom stylesheet. Using the Inspector, I can temporarily change the inline style of a single row to "height: 20px" and it displays the row as I want it to be displayed. However, this doesn't solve the other problem of putting a few pixels at the end of the messages to display a few pixels of a new message when it arrives. I also tried modifying the selector "table[is="tree-view-table"] & td" to hardcode a 20px height and added a 3px padding to the bottom, which works to solve BOTH problems BUT introduces a bug where switching folders no longer scrolls to the bottom of the list of messages. My guess is that Thunderbird is calculating where to scroll to based on the assumption that the row height is exactly 18px. So using CSS alone is not really possible.

What a mess.

Emails were blocked from being sent out of Thunderbird. The solution was to change the smtp Outgoing settings, which works but only once: Telstra (email provider) recently upgraded it's security and the Outgoing Server details needed changing to "smtp.telstra.com" with Port 465, SSL/TLS, Normal Password, user name. The old default Outgoing Server was smtp.bigpond.com etc.

I deleted all the old Outgoing Server details and changed the old "smtp.bigpond.com" to "smtp.telstra.com" etc as the default. All was fine, emails could now be sent. The problem is that when Thunderbird is closed and reopened all the old smtp settings are being restored and the new SMTP settings removed/deleted. Emails now can't be sent again until the smtp settings are changed back to smtp.telstra.com etc. I've tried the advanced option and removed old smtp settings but that didn't work. Each time Thunderbird is closed the new Outgoing SMTP settings are overwritten by the old values. Is there somewhere on the C drive that I can access to delete the old settings manually or some other solution?

I have disabled sponsored shortcuts in Firefox settings, and did this when I first set up my browser.

Today when launching my browser the first link in my shortcuts was to @Google which I specifically do not use. I do not use google search. I do not want google search. I do not want cookies or content from google.

Why was this sponsored shortcut pushed to my browser after I disabled sponsored shortcuts?

I have two Inboxes in which to receive emails from my online account using POP email forwarding. The emails are going into the online account's Inbox in Thunderbird, but I want them to go into the Inbox in my Local Folders. It's not a big issue, but a matter of preference. Otherwise I have no problems in Thunderbird.

i have two computers. on computer 1, all is fine. on computer 2, when it restarted after an update, i got the error message -- "the bookmarks and history system will not be functional b/c one of firefox's files is in use by another application, some security software can cause this problem." this has NEVER happened before.

i found the "how to fix this problem" page, but i am completely baffled by it. what i want to know is what security software (i have avast apps) is likely to have caused this problem, and how do i fix it (i.e., what setting should i change?).

thanks for any help you can provide. i am NOT tech-savvy, this is the only time this has happened, and i've had both computers for years. they have both always had the same apps.

Hello,

Since some days ago, my Kaspersky antivirus has detected trojans from emails of January 2021. It seems like Thunderbird saves a backup from old emails on our system, and these emails contain spam and trojans.

See attached image. All of our computers show same issue. And it happens with more than 50 old emails. Also I have attached the path of these emails, where the issue has been detected by Kaspersky.

How can I remove these old emails and configure Thunderbird not to save old emails backups?

Best regards, Alba

Hi

I use Thunderbird on Windows (now 11) for 16 years now. Currently I have Thunderbird version 128.1.1. I would like to share profile between Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04) installations on same machine. Profile folder is in a ntfs partition accessible both from Ubuntu (automatically mounted) and Windows. I managed to edit profile.ini file to point to right profile folder. On Windows evenrything workes fine. When I try to open Thunderbird in Ubuntu I get empty folder list and no account information in configuration. In the profile folder there ale many files created with names ending with corrupted are created (like folderTree.json.XXX.corrupt). Another try to open Thunderbird ends with message that profile is already in use. Any advice? Maybe I should debug starting Thunderbird (if yes let me know how to do that).

Thanks in advance. Marcin

I would like Firefox to save my usernames for sites, but not the passwords. However, Firefox insists that I supply a password before it will save the account details, and if I supply a dummy password, then it will not let me later edit the account and delete the password. I like to remember my own passwords rather than store them anywhere.

I have tried password managers and they are overbearingly controlling, particularly given that they don't store my passwords let alone my 2FA details, so I'd rather just use Firefox's less onerous, built-in system, if only it would allow me to save an account without a password. Surely saving a username without a password is a safe option, so why block it?
