At one time before several updates ago, all messages in my inbox were separate. After a previous update, reply or messages with the same header started be be nested, each one showing only the sender and the subject, which is now the same. I am forced to read through them all to find the one I want. Deleting any in the change can be hazardous.

How to go back the old way of message display?

I started using Claude in the side panel instead of a dedicated tab, but there is something noise about it: every time I click to open the side panel the chat starts from scratch. Getting a clean slate is nice, but it takes too much time loading. So I would like to not unload the content of the panel when I close it, just hide it, so when I click to open is already loaded. There is a way to do that?

Hello! It seems Thunderbird emails are suddenly being 'threaded'. It is causing great confusion in my office.

I need to see each email from a person separately in order to find them easily and also to reply to each one at the time it is received.

Can someone please explain in very simple non-techy jargon:- a) How I 'unthread' messages already threaded AND b) How I stop any new ones being threaded in the first place.

Thank you Tylex

Hello,

Why the hell did you guys decide to change the sort order of the "Move to" and "Copy to" Right-Click menu folders? How annoying! This makes Thunderbird *less* user friendly, not more user friendly. Do you guys even use Thunderbird? I suspect not, or you would have realized what a bad decision this was. I use these right-click menus every day, and now, because you guys decided to sort the order based on last used, I have to HUNT for the folder each time, because it is constantly changing! Before, I would know where that folder was in the list before I even right-clicked. Unless this gets fixed, I will go back to an older version of Thunderbird.

Instead of spending time changing features for the worse, how about doing something useful, like making Thunderbird work correctly with Protonmail?

Thanks!

Hello people,

When I compose a message in my word programme (Softmaker or Libre), save it in Docx format and copy/paste it into Thunderbird to send it everything is double spaced and nothing I do in the "compose" menu can change that.

I have tried it with "Use Paragraph Format" checked and unchecked and it stays doule spaced and nothing I can find in previous threads seems to address this problem.

What am I missing?

Kindest regards, Colin B 1 October 2025

Since updating Thunderbird 64 bit to v147.0.2, then to v148.0 (1st March 2026, just now), requesting the display of 'Unified Folders' (in Folder Modes) does not populate the unified Inbox with messages from any of my eight registered email inbox sources. The individual inboxes with their contents can be displayed below, but not in the unified Inbox.

Since being introduced several versions ago, I have found this feature very useful when checking my various received emails, and it is frustrating to be without it.

Can anyone suggest what I may or may not be doing to get this feature to work any more? I have been all through Settings, but cannot find anything relevant to this problem.

Cheers, Sam

Okay FIREFOX, update 2/29/2026

1) making complaints to this browser is a nightmare, you guys need to actually do something about making it easier to contact actual support.

2) Firstly, this latest UI update is literally a scam. If you're going to make such a change after years of the same UI being around, users should be well aware of that before the update rolls in.

Secondly, this menu UI should have been an opt-in/out service, NOT DEFAULT. Users should have the option to not use a feature that is actively hostile to a MOBILE experience. That means less button pushing required to speedily access saved content. The current way this menu pops up puts nonsense on top before the actually important parts, namely bookmarks access.

3) bookmarks (specifically CREATING BOOKMARKS). While normal bookmarks access looks the same, creating them is a monster in this app.

This newest iteration sucks, to put it frankly. Where before, the process was simply running down the list to choose the right folder (all those folders & subfolders were already extended), now it requires us to extend and extend and extend and extend. In what world did you guys think this was useful for a mobile phone? Mobile does not lend itself to multiple presses, that's by design.

You guys are making this app look more and more like desktop, and that's a bad design and worse feature for mobile experiences.

Please either update this UI to allow for the legacy design (opt-in/out), or change it back entirely. Right now this app is trudging downwards to an experience people do not want to use.

Attached are screenshots of the current 3dot menu drop-down and the creation/editing of bookmarks. Too much noise for what was actually useful design on the legacy UI.

Issue

Thunderbird fails to wrap long lines of HTML-formatted text that is wrapped in a <pre> tag. This behavior is consistent in both the email viewer when viewing received emails, as well as in the email composer when writing an email containing preformatted text.

What I tried

1. Make all settings of config editor that contain the word wrap as true 2. make a userContent.css stylesheet within the chrome directory within the profile directory.

Question

How do I post the offending HTML code (and the CSS file I tried) on this forum?

How do I force Thunderbird to wrap preformatted text?

I've been using color settings in userChrome.css to set the colors for the threads and folder panes... I obtained these settings from a discussion in the Thunderbird Beta mailing list, back in 2023. Here are my current settings:

root {
 /* Force BG in unthemed folder */
 --foldertree-background: #A99B92 !important;
 /* Force BG in threads */
 --tree-view-bg: #A99B92 !important;
 /* Force black text in threads */
 --tree-view-color: #000 !important;

} /* Position Menu Bar above Unified Toolbar */

  1. toolbar-menubar { order: -1 !important;}

However, after the most recent beta update, the tree-view settings are no longer working, and I'm stuck once again with the ghastly Bright White background... see the attached image; note that the foldertree setting is still working though...

What do I need to do, to get this code working again? or is this a bug in the current beta?

hi, spellchecking works fine when using Firefox in Linux, but not in Windows 11. For instance, I can enter comments and replies to magazine articles while using Linux and they're spellchecked as I go by highlighting misspelled words etc, but if I'm in Windows 11 and on the same comments section, although my Firefox settings are the same the spellcheck doesn't happen. Can anyone please tell me what's up with that?
