We recently update Firefox with version 138.0 and now getting the message "Gah. Your tab just crashed" when opening the browser.

We attempted to update and install version 138.0.1 only resulting with the same error. We also found and attempted the following all resulting with the same error: - change the about:config page for settings to false for both browser.tabs.remote.autostart and browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2

- clear browser cache.

- enable Temporary Mode in the Help menu. This appears to fix the problem but only for the current browser session. When a new Firefox window is opened, the error reappears.

What is needed to resolve this error or is there a way to permanently enable Temporary Mode or some similar setting? Thanks for all your help with this.

I have been having much trouble with Thunderbird. The latest problem is with the Sent folder. When I try to Compact Folders I get the message "The folder 'Sent on Local' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again."

I have plenty of disk space and have Full Control. I tried creating a temporary folder and moving all the Sent messages to it, so that Sent had zero messages. I still got the same message. The file listing showed Sent to have a size of 182 MB even though it didn't contain any messages. I've tried deleting sent.msf to force Thunderbird to recreate the index - didn't work. I tried using Repair Folder. That worked, but when I tried Compacting Folders again it found another folder with the same problem. I fixed that one and then it said the Sent folder was bad once again. I'm going around in circles!

I've deleted and recreated scores of .msf files for various reasons, trying to get Thunderbird to work without errors, but as soon as I get one problem fixed, another one crops up. I'd conclude that it's my computer, except that I'm not having any problems with other programs.

Any thoughts on this particular problem or Thunderbird problems in general? Thanks.

I've been using Firefox for a while, and while there are many things I like about it, it has always been a resource hog. In the past I could get around this by just killing Firefox in Windows Resource Manager and restarting, but ever since getting a new computer an upgrading to Windows 11, it's gotten worse. Every couple of days my computer freezes for 10 or more minutes, I'm having to do a hard reboot ever few days, and I'm even bluescreening about twice a month. I'm pretty sure Firefox is the culprit because killing it will usually resolve the issue.

I'm wondering if there is some way to put Firefox in a sandbox so it does not consume nearly all available memory and other computer resources. It is by far the biggest consumer of resources on my system and I do not want to dedicate 4GB+ of memory to an app that is just showing a couple of web pages and playing YouTube videos.

When I go to some websites, such as Corair.com it hangs. I cannot click on anything. If I try to access specific pages via a search engine the same happens. I can close the browser but the 8+ processes don't terminate so I have to kill them from task manager.

I clear all of my browser history when I close FF so I can't remember all of the sites this happens on, but it was more than just Corsair.com.

I'm using 140.2.0esr, but also had the problem with 140.1.0esr. I did not have this issue on 128.12.0esr (I upgrade to 140 after that).

I tried turning use hardware acceleration off/on, that didn't fix it.

I am just about to try safe mode.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are experiencing an issue with various users on our terminal servers whereby websites open very slowly when using Firefox. When I access the website using Edge from the same user session, everything works very quickly. We have already tried creating a new profile in Firefox and clearing the cache, but without success. Could you please help us?

The operating system used is Windows Server 2022.

I am unable to print emails - the dialogue hangs at print preview screen where nothing is displayed apart from the circling wheel. Same for all accounts.

Fedora Linux 41 / KDE Plasma 6.2.5 / Graphics platform Wayland / Thunderbird 128.6.0-1.fc41

Thunderbird will not print to either printer (Epson Workforce Pro - WF-5110 or HPLaserJet P2015dn) rendering Thunderbird impossible to use fully.

Printers always:

  • print a test page successfully
  • print in all other apps including LibreOffice
  • print web pages
  • print same emails using Kmail client (installed as 2nd client if only to print emails as workaround)

Print using system dialogue does not work from Thunderbird (most options greyed-out including Print).

  • reinstalling printers makes no difference
  • reinstalling Thunderbird makes no difference

Cause: configuration setting or permissions issue or....

I'm out of options and can't think of anything else to try. As a long-term user of Thunderbird (>12 years) I'd really like to get this working. Thanks, Ric

What fresh hell is this (in the image)? The display is like this most of the time. Usually, highlighting text causes that part to be fixed but it doesn't last long. This in on Windows 11 and nothing seems to fix it. I've updated drivers and Thunderbird. I've scanned for system file damage. While there wer some corrupt files, fixing them has not affected the display problem. No effect. It looks like some characters are randomly changed to the background color. I am now getting a spinning wheel with annoying frequency while using/trying to use Thunderbird on my MacBook Air 2017 running Monterey. Everything was fine for the first 6-9 months, but over recent months the spinning wheel has appeared more and more frequently while I'm trying to read mail, answer mail, scroll through messages, etc., etc. Now it comes up every few minutes and delays me doing anything for about 15-30 seconds at a time. It's really frustrating. I recently ran Onyx, which was designed to clear cache, etc and make everything run smoothly. But the only program it required me to quit before it started was Thunderbird. Is there some cache or something I need to clear on a (semi-) regular basis to keep it working at a reasonable speed without this godforsaken spinning wheel interrupting everything? Thanks for any/all your help.

After updating to v132 I have noticed a significant increase in the load times for some websites that our users connect to. Using v131.0.3 I usually see < 1 second load times for the two websites I am monitoring but after upgrading to v132 it is consistently taking 18-19 seconds for the same page. I have tried uninstalling v132 and reverting to v131 and it immediately goes back to the much faster load times. I have also tried installing various v133 releases and I see the same performance issue as for v132.

The environment I am working in is behind a network firewall with relatively restrictive internet access and I am wondering whether there are sites that Firefox is trying to connect to for the new anti-tracking or suspicious activity features (or anything else) that are being blocked and are therefore causing timeouts and retries that are bumping the total load time up.

Can anyone think of anything else I could check or change?

My Thunderbird (version 115.12.2) is running on a Windows 11 system. My profile has multiple accounts configured as IMAP to multiple email services. I also have the Status Bar and Activity indicator enabled. Randomly, both indicators will show busy for an extended period of time. When I view this in the Activity Manager I see one or more folders hung for 10 or 20 minutes downloading one message out of several. This occurs in multiple accounts and servers.

I have researched this and attempted the fixes presented. I have cleared the cache files and compacted and rebuild email folders as suggested, but the slow update still occurs.

Then I decided to try and capture a ProMon.exe trace to see what is happening. What I found was Thunderbird.exe was spending all of the time while hung access the following file: C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\LocalLow\Intel\ ShaderCache\4a5eb0e65e559fc08e65ecb2fa9d650817ae895582a7a7ede162866d3e47a05a, like it was stuck in a loop.

When Thunderbird is operating normally, it is accessing this file but only for short period of times. Research says that it is ok to delete the files in this folder. I did that and it seemed to help for awhile. But it started happening again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a Windows thing to look further into? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So this might be a very basic question, but I wanted to check with you all before I do something that maybe can't be undone.

On the side pane of T-Bird there is a "Local Folders" folder. Is this folder a folder that is stored on my PC rather than somewhere in Thunderbird?

I have many archive folders for my mail going back a long time. They are quite large. Thunderbird has slowed down a lot, even when I compact folders. Can I move my archived folders (sorted by year) into "Local Folders" and will that improve Thunderbirds performance?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

For a few days now, synchronization and opening new messages from a Gmail account configured in Thunderbird have been very slow. I use Thunderbird 140.x, which is regularly updated, and the mailbox has been configured for at least 5 years. Only in the last week has the problem emerged, rendering it unusable. Timeout errors and opening a new message after 2-3 minutes. I've cleared the cache, the database, and re-indexed, but nothing has changed. I've deleted and reconfigured my Gmail account, but nothing has changed. My Gmail mailbox is about 45 GB (I've seen much larger ones without losing performance). I tried installing Thunderbird on a new, clean PC, but the same thing. Extremely slow. Google support hasn't found any issues. Do you have any other suggestions for getting Thunderbird back up and running? Thanks.
