Right side scroll bar not displaying when opening new window in FF 38.0

Hi,

Ever since I upgraded to FF 38.0, whenever I try to open a link in a new window, (which I do all the time - not a tabs person ;) ) the right hand side scroll bar doesn't show, nor does the new window respond to the scroll wheel on my mouse. If I open up another instance of FF, and copy/paste the URI from the window without the scroll bar, all is fine, but that's quickly becoming a real pain. I've tried starting FF in Safe Mode - no difference. Tried uninstalling all of my extensions - still, no difference, and apparently my google-fu is failing me on this one. Any thoughts, by chance?

Thanks,

Dylan

P.S. On Win 8.1 Pro 64.

The latest update opens links into a window without toolbars or being able to view ( scroll) the entire page. What setting, if any, will change this?

Since the 38.0.1 update any link inside a page will open a new but non functioning window, it has no toolbars and will not scroll down the page. Bookmarks function normal… (read more)

Since the 38.0.1 update any link inside a page will open a new but non functioning window, it has no toolbars and will not scroll down the page. Bookmarks function normally, it only seems to be an issue following links. They open normally in tabs, it seems to only be an issue if open links in a new window is selected

The last few days, when I browse some pages, my menu bar is missing; and my scroll bar is also missing. That's how this page is being displayed to me right now. Very frustrating. I had trouble finding the customize button too. I found it by right clicking the padlock icon in front of the mozilla foundation on the address bar. I want all my toolbars back on all my pages!

The vertical scroll bar was missing everywhere yesterday. I refreshed Firefox several times. Now I have vertical scroll bars in Yahoo e-mail, and this forum, but mostly nowhere else. So we can't navigate any site who's information is longer than one screen height, including Facebook.

My wife does a lot of surveys, and she must have dragged across something with the mouse, but I have no idea what.

I installed Linux Mint 17.1 recently. It came with Firefox 33. When using it for the first time, I got a message saying Firefox was out of date. I updated to Firefox 38. Now the arrows on the ends of the scroll bar are missing. I use a small laptop when I travel. I don't use a mouse, as the mouse is very inconvenient in the passenger seat of the car. I need the scroll arrows back. It is the easiest way to scroll around the tiny laptop screen with the touchpad.

Please explain in English, not computerese (or even worse linux-ese), how to restore the scroll bar line-at-a-time arrow buttons that used to be on the top and bottom of the scroll bar. The help forums either jabber about opening files I don't know how to find and editing code that I don't have permissions to edit, or they talk about changing settings in older versions of Firefox that no longer have the menu options available. I step by step instructions that work.

In newest version of Firefox, many windows will not scroll except by using arrows; in both Windows 7 and 8.1 and on multiple machines

I have laptops, desktops, and tablets. Tablets Use Android and are not a problem. The other machines run either Windows 7 (especially the ones at work) and 8.1 (personal laptops.) Different makes and models, some with wireless mice, some with USB connected mice, the former mostly Logitech and the latter Dell. For the purposes of the rest of this description, note that the touchpads on the laptops behave the same as the mice. In all these machines, after recent upgrades (Firefox for certain, but probably other things), about 50%-75% of windows open without scroll bars and do not scroll with the mouse wheel. I can navigate with the keyboard arrows and the links in the windows respond to mouse clicks. I assume the windows are opening in some script or platform (Java?) that is different from what is used in other pages I navigate to and through. In most cases they are opened from links on other pages, although I have come up with some that appeared after entering the URL, and the presence of a tool bar is inconsistent. Sometimes there, sometimes not. Most of the times I am paying attention, the standard one is not there (i.e. no scroll bar/slider or standard toolbar. Looks like a popup with URL and search window and the bookmark toolbar.)

I am guessing this is a Firefox thing because Chrome works, but whether it is the browser itself or its interaction with Java, some setting, or what-have-you I don't know. Suggestions?

You changed the settings: links open in pop-ups. I don't want that. What now?

Links now open in popups, which do not scroll. I have to copy the url and paste it into a regular window. It's 10 steps back. Will this error be fixed or will this stay? … (read more)
