Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible
I cannot open Thunderbird on my laptop. I tried to move my profiles on my external hard drive to my C drive profile but I still am getting the message above.

Firefox repeatedly crashes on my, multiple times a day. I'dc really like to NOT have to change my default browser to Chrome.
What happens is that Firefox freezes, and I get a white bar at the top telling me so. I get a popup box asking if I want to close Firefox or wait for it to respond. Waiting doesn't work, so I always have to close Firefox. When I reopen it, fortunately all m,y open tabs are retained, but it crashes again within minutes or seconds as soon as I click on anything.
There only thing that seems to work is a reboot of my PC. But the respite is short before Firefox crashes again.
I've disabled most plugins, but that hasn't helped. Is there a way to create an event log within Firefox that I can share with someone at Mozilla to help e debug the issue? It's got to be something local rather than Firefox itself; I can't imagine this is happening to most users.

I must have changed something because T'Bird no longer starts. I was trying to copy TB file from Win 10 to a Win 11 PC. That failed because some files could not be copied. But now TB is not starting up. I checked the Start folder and it is in there.
Suggestions please.

I was trying to change the time emails are kept on the server so I went into "Account Settings" and now Thunderbird is locked onto this page. I get a "Mozilla Thunderbird not responding" message when I try and click on anything and I can't get out of this page nor access my Inbox. I've tried starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode which didn't work. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Thunderbird but when it starts it goes straight back to the frozen "Account Settings" page. I've checked my profile and there is a new profile that was created with today's date. There is also a profile from June 2025. If the old profile contains all my emails and folders up to yesterday, that would be OK.

My computer is awsome it seems to me this version of firefox is either being pushed out or its not coping with large loads. I removed all of my 32gb ram tonight just to test the ram my ram is fine. I've always experience occasional TB crashes. According to my log history there was 1 in July, 3 in Aug, 2 in Sep, 2 in Oct, and 6 in Nov. I never really paid attention since the reboot was quick. But now in December I am losing work and it is a major problem. I've had 30 crashes in Dec and 21 in the past week. I have only 3 add ons and they have not changed, and a Copernic connector. I disable the Copernic connector and it didn't help. I have the same 140.6 on my Surface Go with the same add ons, except for Copernic and it runs fine. On both PCs I use Malewarebytes and WinDef. I have put exclusions for them in their setups. Even with MBAM completely disabled I've still had crashes.
I cleared the Cache and no help. I've even had occasional crashes in Troubleshooting mode. Here are my last 5 crash IDs

Interestingly I’m also experiencing crashes with Firefox, especially ChatGPT. I cleared the ChatGPT history and that helped but did not solve the problem. I cleared the Firefox cache and in troubleshoot mode still have issues.
Otherwise my win11 PC seems to be working fine. I’ve run chkdsk and all is ok. Also scannow is ok.
Is my next step a profile rebuild?

If there's one thing I can count on, it's that the next version of Thunderbird will be more buggy & unstable that the previous version, and v 140 certainly does not disappoint in that category. It crashes & closes multiple times per day. Any time something else may be using a lot of resources, Thunderbird freezes up and if I click on it, the app crashes & closes. At least the previous just stayed greyed out until it was able to complete the task and didn't crash & close. Great job Mozilla.

It doesn't always do this. On a few occasions, if I wait a while, close Thunderbird from Windows, and restart it, the partial is in the Drafts folder.
I'm running Windows 11 24H2, but I've been on 24H2 since December, and this problem is more recent.

Hello, I hope this message reaches you. I have a Mac operating on OS 10.15 .7. Ever since I upgraded my Thunderbird to the 141.0 version, two things happen: 1) the fans of my Mac start ventilating very soon (and the battery starts going down) 2) when I quit Thunderbird , everything goes back to normal , but 10 seconds after, a window opens reporting an unexpected shut down. Starting yesterday 4-3-2025 my Thunderbird email keeps locking up and saying it is not responding. I can close it and open it and then work with it for 2 or 3 minutes and it will start not responding again. This is a consistent problem the last few days. I did check and it said there was an automatic update on 4-2-25. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it but i did go in and request an update about 2 hours ago today. This has not helped as I still consistentaly get the not responding problem. Please advise what I can do to fix this.]

I think it started to happen with Version 128.9.0esr | Released April 1, 2025. It is very simple to reproduce: 1. Start TB. 2. TB downloads new messages and continues to do it every 1 minute according to the setting. 3. In 10 to 20 minutes, it hangs. I have to force it to close and then restart it to check my email.
I believe it started to happen yesterday.

Hello, Here is what I consider a new bug in TB. It goes this way: While I am reading a message in the message pane of the standard window (not in its own window), if messages arrive (with a small ding for me), the message pane I am reading goes BLANK and the message I was reading is deselected. I have to reselect the message I am reading and scroll down to where I was. This behavior is very annoying and did not exists in previous versions.

Hi - I'm trying to install Thunderbird on my mac to get away from a google workspace account. I've downloaded it a couple times and it crashes immediately after the login screen. Same thing in Troubleshoot mode. It's a work computer so it might have something installed preventing the desktop app from working. Thanks for any help you can offer.
