In recent weeks, Thunderbird often hangs when I'm replying to another email and have written a sentence or two. It never recovers, and I have to close the program from Windows.
It doesn't always do this. On a few occasions, if I wait a while, close Thunderbird from Windows, and restart it, the partial is in the Drafts folder.
I'm running Windows 11 24H2, but I've been on 24H2 since December, and this problem is more recent.

Starting yesterday 4-3-2025 my Thunderbird email keeps locking up and saying it is not responding. I can close it and open it and then work with it for 2 or 3 minutes and it will start not responding again. This is a consistent problem the last few days. I did check and it said there was an automatic update on 4-2-25. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it but i did go in and request an update about 2 hours ago today. This has not helped as I still consistentaly get the not responding problem. Please advise what I can do to fix this.]

Hello, I hope this message reaches you. I have a Mac operating on OS 10.15 .7. Ever since I upgraded my Thunderbird to the 141.0 version, two things happen: 1) the fans of my Mac start ventilating very soon (and the battery starts going down) 2) when I quit Thunderbird , everything goes back to normal , but 10 seconds after, a window opens reporting an unexpected shut down. I usually click OK , but when I click "report" , nothing happens. Thanks for your help J.C.

I think it started to happen with Version 128.9.0esr | Released April 1, 2025. It is very simple to reproduce: 1. Start TB. 2. TB downloads new messages and continues to do it every 1 minute according to the setting. 3. In 10 to 20 minutes, it hangs. I have to force it to close and then restart it to check my email.
I believe it started to happen yesterday.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hello, Here is what I consider a new bug in TB. It goes this way: While I am reading a message in the message pane of the standard window (not in its own window), if messages arrive (with a small ding for me), the message pane I am reading goes BLANK and the message I was reading is deselected. I have to reselect the message I am reading and scroll down to where I was. This behavior is very annoying and did not exists in previous versions.
I hope this helps. Thank you , Alain Damlamian

Hi - I'm trying to install Thunderbird on my mac to get away from a google workspace account. I've downloaded it a couple times and it crashes immediately after the login screen. Same thing in Troubleshoot mode. It's a work computer so it might have something installed preventing the desktop app from working. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello,
I have today encountered a reproducible issue with Firefox 145.0.2 (64-bit) on my system (CachyOS Linux). Whenever I press the "Print" button in the printing dialog for a PDF file, the browser freezes and no longer reacts to anything. I had to kill the process manually and try again. I have then downloaded the PDF and opened a different application to print it - that worked fine. Is this a known issue with Firefox? Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I already tried resetting the printer settings in the browser, but that did not change anything.
Thanks, Stefan

Next day after about 3-5 minutes Thunderbird shows the Hourglass and is not responding. Eventually will go to a greyed out window. I have to kill it with task manager. I noticed that in Activity Manager three calendars were syncing for a long time. Disabled all calendars.
Task manager shows CPU usage but 0 Network and 0 Disk activity. 3 sub processes but only one has CPU. Resource Manager shows CPU and 72 threads. Resource Manager - Analyze Wait Chain - reports "waiting to finish network I/O."
I've tried Troubleshooting Mode. Still froze during Troubleshooting Mode. I've tried moving a large local folder out of the mail folder entirely. I've tried clearing the startup cache. I've tried clearing the system temp folder.
I have a lot of accounts, saved emails and message filters. So I really don't want to start over again with an empty Thunderbird and reset up accounts.
CPU 100%. It never finishes. The only way out is to kill tb. I tried safe mode. Same thing. Addons have been disabled. How do I determine the problem?

This seems to be occurring after beta 6 , it was working under beta 5

I've been having issues with Thunderbird randomly hanging over the last few weeks. It's always been slow to upload all my gmail messages, so I let it get done with that before I start reading. However, now it randomly decides to hang forever. It generally happens when I delete or move an email to another folder. It doesn't complete the function. I can click on other emails, but it doesn't open them. The UI just sits there with the blue progress bar shimmering away, forever. None of the window control work (File, X, etc.). I have to use the Task Manager to end the Thunderbird task. When I start it up again, the message will be moved or deleted, and I can view more messages until it decides to hang again. This happens about four times per day.
I have an MSI GS75 Stealth 9SF laptop, running intel Core i7, Windows 11 (up to date), and the most current version of Thunderbird.
I didn't see anyone else commenting on Thunderbird hanging frequently, so I'm wondering if it's just me.

I've used Slack every day for the past decade, and Firefox has been my primary browser for some time now. I've never had an issue with the two, but now, Firefox is reliably crashing every time I attempt to open Slack.
I've tried clearing my cache both broadly and specific to Slack, with neither producing results. Even tried deleting all cookies on Firefox, which was a bit of a pain, and it was no help.
I did read up on some people encountering a similar issue that could be fixed by deleting the Slack entry in "about:serviceworkers," but this did not help here.
The only extension I'm running is uBlock Origin, which I've been running for probably as long as I've been using Firefox, and that has never presented an issue before either.
Would appreciate any help or advice on the matter.

Started using Netscape and been with Firefox ever since it started. For the last few months, I find that my Draytek 2866Lac router randomly crashes and resets itself when I am using Firefox. I cannot pin it down to opening any particular website but it seems to be related to opening a new tab / link. I have FF set to open new tab automatically and no extensions (other than British English) are in use. Using FF, I can seldom go more than 5 -6 hours between resets. Not using FF, I have now managed 2 days constant uptime on the router - which is a fantastic change! Is there something peculiar with my system and any ideas how I can get stability again please?

Thunderbird had never crashed before, but lately, after the last 2 Windows 10 updates within the last 2 weeks, it crashes. It's at 128.5.2esr, the next-to-last update.
It always crashes when I choose "About" and it starts downloading the update. It appears that it doesn't get the 1st byte before crashing. It will still say 0 bytes when it crashes.
It also crashes if I leave it running and the screen goes through the screen saver mode and turns black. Twice it crashed while I was using it.
I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I had 4,000 emails in my Inbox (is there a limit?), so I deleted many and moved many to folders. I now have just under 1,000 in my Inbox.
I also tried restarting in Troubleshoot Mode and updating, but it still crashed at 0 bytes downloaded.
Is there a way to manually download the update and apply it? I can't find it on the website.
The next thing I know to do is reinstall. Is there anything I can try before doing that? Would you suggest uninstall first or reinstall over what's here?

I have a new Macbook M4, and installed Thunderbird 128.6.1esr as default email application.
If a new message comes in, suddenly a white square appears in the upper left of the desktop, and Thunderbird becomes nonresponsive. If I close it, it won't reopen. If I click the white square, a truncated Thunderbird menu appears at the top. See screenshot.
Also, the white square overlays all other running applications, so that anything full screen has the red and yellow close/minimize buttons hidden.
This happens whether Thunderbird is the only application running or if others are running.
It is driving me mad. Any insights how to fix it?

I believe this started with this upgrade to the client. I routinely was able to select a piece of text in an email and click the Insert Link... button, fill in the data, and click OK to embed a link.
Now I select a piece of text, press the Insert Link button, and Thunderbird hangs, requiring Task Manager to kill the program.
Embedded links already in i.e. templates work fine, but cannot be edited or upgraded.
Anybody else seeing this, or am I (typically) just being stupid about something?
Thanks John
