Today, I have been having massive problems loading the site at www.theguardian.com/uk.

The symptoms vary from server disconnected error, to pages loading slowly or incompletely.

As far as I can see, the problem only happens on the one site, Guardian. I have cleared both cache and cookies, to no effect. I have tried restarting Firefox in safe mode, without addons, to no effect.

I don't have the problem on other sites. I don't have the problem if I use Chrome browser instead. I don't have any Nvidia software installed (there is another thread about FF v.43 and Nvidia which seems to have the same symptoms).

Unfortunately, that is about the limit of my techie ability.

If anyone has any suggestions what else I can try, I would be very grateful.

Firefox freezes entire system on first "complicated" web site visited

First, I use the word "complicated" because I think it is the first web site I visit that requires Flash, but I have not been able to prove that. I know it is not all web sites or simple web sites. I didn't want to offer bias in the question by claiming it is Flash, but that is my instinct.

Anyway, I have been working on this for about a month or so, The behavior is as follows. After a Windows reboot, I start Firefox, and after visiting a few websites, it freezes my entire system; no mouse, not ctrl+alt+del, nothing. Completely locked up. After about a minute or two, it unlocks, and I can use Firefox fine until after the next system reboot. Once I know a website is "complicated", ie, causes this problem, it will _always_ cause it if it is the first visited of the complicated class. However, after the initial freeze, I can visit any website, "complicated" or not, including the original one, fine.

So, say site A and site B cause this problem, but site C does not. I can visit site C and ones like it all I want, as soon as I hit A or B the first time, it freezes as above, then I can hit A B or C in any order all day fine after it unfreezes. Once I reboot, I am back to the same situation. It is 100% reproducible in this way.

What I have done/ what I have --

1) I have no extensions and I use the default theme 2) I have tried turning off graphics acceleration as suggested in another article 3) I have upgraded FF and Flash; FF version does not seem to matter 4) I have disabled every single plugin I have. I do note that the length of the freeze is much shorter when all plugins are disabled

None of the above have fixed the problem.

This started happening after I did a Windows update on Apr 7, 2016. I do Windows updates manually, but it is beyond my pay grade to uninstall each Window's update to attempt to find a causal relationship. It may be coincidence,

As I said, I suspect the problem sites require Flash, but I can't prove that. However, it is still a problem when Flash is disabled, as I said.

I run Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium fully updated, Malwarebytes premium AV, and FF 43.0.1. Since I have verified it is independent of FF version since at least 35, I have not checked for updates.

TIA for any help.

Using Firefox 43.0.4 but this problem was present in earlier versions. When I read an article on the jpost.com website, once I start reading the comments section, Firefox inevitably locks up (usually after a minute or few minutes). Then Firefox eventually crashes unless the process is killed first by the user.

Microsoft Edge does not have this problem.

Hi Friends, 3 of my add-ons were disabled during the recent upgrade to version 43, apparently because they aren't signed. I found out how to override that on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct

Question -- If I change the about:config option as instructed, does that only affect currently installed add-ons? Or would it override when I install new add-ons in the future?

I just want to know whether I need to remember this, and go back and undo it in a couple of weeks; or whether I can change it and forget it.

Thank you very much  :-) brynn

About an hour ago I noticed that the option to "ask me every time" on cookies, regarding privacy, was gone! All that's there, now is always or never. So, I uninstalled Firefox and then installed it, again, but it didn't help. That selection was still gone. I've always used this feature, and now I am very concerned. What happened? How can I get this feature back?

When FF starts up, I want ZERO sidebars to open up, REGARDLESS of what sidebars I had open when I closed FF.

I typically have many tabs on many windows open, some with sidebars, some without. It is impractical to go through all these one by one before closing FF. I generally close FF via File > Exit for maximum safety.

I have FF set to "continue where I left off."

Thanks.

--p.

[Please do not tell me I need fewer windows or tabs open, or ask why I would be stupid enough to want the behavior I'm asking for. Please do not tell me to update Firefox, unless you know for a fact that the newer version will have the behavior I am asking for.]

I was just notified of a Software update 43.0.2 and as I've never had problems before I went ahead and did it but I had to do a system restore to get rid of it and regress to 43.01 to regain any functionality. 43.0.2 allowed me only to open the browser, and open a new tab... as many of those as the heart desired. It wouldn't however allow my home page to open, load any of my bookmarks or go to any destination I manually typed into the address bar.

Hello,

Just lately my firefox has started to crash on a daily basis. I have not made any changes, no new plugins, addons etc. I useally dont run more than aboyt 6-7 tabs at a time.

I have followed steps and searched forums trying to fix this, but with no luck. Finally I did a fresh install, but the crash is still recurring at least 1-2 times per day.

Most of the time I dont see when it crashes. Its when I have been away from the computer and get back that I see that firefox has crashed.

I added an image of the crash message, its in swedish but I think you will manage to figure it out.

If more information is needed, just tell me and I will assist with what I can.

Thanks!

I've been experiencing problems with the newest update of Firefox since it came out. My toolbars don't right. It crashed on me several times, and now I've discovered that after the crash, it went back to default mode and wiped out all my usernames/passwords.

I tried a system restore on my Windows Ultimate 7, but that didn't do anything. And by toolbars, I mean the Yahoo! Toolbar for firefox.

I have version 43.0.4 as of today.

I started a download from googlebooks for a preview of a book with www.books43.com. It's been running for days now and I can't see anyway to stop it. In the beginning it downloaded loads of pages quickly but then went very slowly. It seems to download to the site and then be available to download. You can download from the beginning to where it's up to by using a downloader it opens in a new page when you click on the relevent download link. I tried to add print screens of the website but they wouldn't upload.

I'm running the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7.

I've tried blocking the website with my firewall - Privatefirewall 7.0 using the web address and the ip address but when I took them off to check the number of pages downloaded, they had still increased.

Can anyone help? Thanks

How about the flash player? How to troubleshoot pls?

When the crash occurs - the screen gets transparent, there is a note about firefox stopping to respond and I have to close it out. My browser is 43.0.1

I noticed it may have something to do with the ads, because I opened my email to read email from support.mozilla.org and it crashed. Then the window was restored and I was able to read it.

The browser was reinstalled and refreshed. I have no add-ons and no extensions. But I have plugins. I disabled some and changed the rest to ask to activate.
