Hi, Firefox desktop for win 10: Firefox works with this one exception... I downloaded two "self extracting" files from Nikon. When I double click on either or any file of this type using firefox, I get "some installation files are corrupt, please re-download" If I use Microsoft edge, the same files work, provided I select "unblock" in the files properties tab. (yes I do this for ff files too)

This did not happen months ago and I'm sure this is because Microsfot has changed something, which needs all browsers to adapt to. Thx

Someone made a suggestion (thank you Matt) but can't find the that response here. Matt said this might help:

Restart Thunderbird (TB) with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". I assume you would then try the update it keep asking for.

This was done as I was able to start TB and just tried that. On the help Menu and then on the About tab: It said: Thunderbird 78.3.3 (32-bit) Release notes.

So 78.3.3. was installed but TB tells me every day it must be 'Updated' but then states the computer must re-started. If I don't, TB simple closes. If I do restart and try again to update: TB closes and the endless computer restarts begins again. I would guess TB see's a need to update but it doesn't really and goes into a software loop (with no correct answer). I tried to contact a person at Mozilla/Thunderbird and can find no human help.

I had upgraded to version 78 and suddenly wasn't able to receive any email. Upon investigation, it turned out that my email provider's server is still on TLS 1.0 and 78 no longer supports that. My email provider indicates they probably won't be upgrading until sometime next year and I can't easily switch email accounts -- I've been using this email account for 30 years and every account I've set up on the web (and there are dozens of those) is based on it. So, I went through the painful process of downgrading back to version 68.

The downgrade has been working fine until today. I rebooted my machine to install some Windows updates and after the reboot, I'm back on version 78 and my contacts address book is gone.

I don't know what to do. I don't know why this happened. I could try to go through the whole painful downgrade process again but if it is just going to reverse itself again that's not very attractive.

Do I need to find another email client? Because I really liked Thunderbird up until now.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I've been using Thunderbird for many years in my work life. I use it every day. I'm as happy as the famous clam. I've even been a tiny contributor to Thunderbird development (statements only, no code).

But since I switched from Windows to macOS ten years ago, I have been using Apple Mail for personal mail. (I don't know why.)

I have finally given up on Apple Mail, after knowing for years that it simply does not work for me. (Not even Search.) I am ready to say goodbye and to migrate all my back messages to Thunderbird.

It is straightforward to navigate to this page:

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_switching-from-apple-mail-to-thunderbird

Right up front we are told:

"Currently, message and address book import is only functional with Apple Mail 5.0 or earlier."

So, I am hoping, all I have to do is export each of my forty or so folders, with mail from my sixteen e-mail accounts, into (some arrangement) of .mbox files, and import each of those files into Thunderbird, right?

How?

Oops. I mean, how, reliably. And with reasonable effort.

I've spent some hours looking for the product that offers to do this. Or even part of this. I have found only one, from New Zealand. If you folks don't straighten me out quick, I' will try it.

Finally, my question:

How do I migrate from Apple Mail to Thunderbird?

Hello All,

Windows 10 died after a Windows update and I had to use HP Recovery to backup all my files and reinstall Windows 10. Now I'm downloading and reinstalling all the applications I lost. Got Thuderbird working for my gmail and cox emails just fine. If I try to "import" address books, etc. Thunderbird says it cannot find anything to import.

I'm hoping that somewhere in the backup to find the Thunderbird "Address Books" and just move that file from the "restore" location to the new installation of Thunderbird - or at least somewhere Thunderbird could find it to "import" it.

Any suggestions?
