Is it a bug or a design decision. I mean if I have a lot of opened tabs and I intend to close just one tab, then a slight delay in releasing the key combination would result in closing rest of the tabs. Shouldn't it be like Press and Release key combination to perform the corresponding action which would ensure the action is performed just once. That is what it was like on Chrome and Edge.

I don't see why Mozilla just can't let people put the tabs where they want and be done with it. Stuff like this used to be one of the great appeals and strengths of FF. It just feels like, which each new update, FF loses more and more of its soul.

This has been happening over the last month or so. I'll be browsing with multiple tabs open and then for no apparent reason a few of my tabs will just close themselves. I'm not clicking on anything or using any shortcuts. Without any input on my part a group of maybe 3 or 4 tabs just suddenly close themselves, while the rest of my tabs remain. It doesn't seem to matter what pages the tabs are open to: google, amazon, whatever... Anybody have any ideas what's causing this? I've already tried updating, restarting, and disabling add-ons.

I regularly have 4 to 6 pinned tabs open, but would still like to be able to open my regular tabs with the `cmd+1–9` shortcuts. Is there a way to configure Firefox to use a different shortcut for the pinned tabs? It would be great to be able to have something like `cmd+option+1–9` be the pinned tabs, with `cmd+1–9` be the regular tabs.

First, I just had a major system crash, had to re-install Linux Mint and through my own stupidity, relied on the wrong backups for my firefox configuration. So I lost my Firefox 52 install with all of my extensions (that still worked). Now, I'm running v. 57 Quantum, and a few things aren't working correctly.

First, the MAJOR problem: when I open a link from a bookmark, it's clobbering an existing tab that I was using (that's why it was open, obviously). That is completely unsat and can not be allowed to continue. How do I correct this? I can't find the option under settings-->tabs to fix this problem.

Second issue (major annoyance): I can no longer create a bookmark directly in a bookmark folder on the bookmark toolbar. I used to be able to open that bookmark folder, and the first option was to bookmark the currently open tab. That option has vanished, and i use that all the time. How do I restore that?

Actually, one more issue: I have two tabs that are pinned and are supposed to be protected (i.e., nothing can clobber them, and I can't close them without deliberately turning the protection off (context menu right-clicking on tab). I need that back, because for some reason, firefox thinks it's ok to open a bookmark in those tabs, too, when it most definitely is NOT ok.

Thanks, Jim Graham

Hi, I work in GNU/Linux + Gnome with several tabs (around 100). They have different context (research, personal, related to a course, and work; are some examples). I use several windows with several tabs each. I would like to have one group per window, to be able to close a window and not losing the tabs it had, (to close all the windows and be able to reopen them).

I cannot find a way to organize my tabs in such a way that windows don't isolate their tabs. There are plenty of add-ons to group tabs. But all of them end up hiding/unhiding the tabs of only the current window.

It looks that the underlying architecture is this: OS has Firefox. Firefox has Windows. Windows have tabs. Tabs are manageable only in the window they belong to.

Therefore, every window is only aware of its own group of tabs.

What I am looking for is a different approach, or at least the illusion of it: OS has Firefox Firefox has Tabs. Tabs are manageable, from any instance of a window.

Therefore, the window is only a viewer that is aware of all the tabs.

The plug-ins: Panorama Tab Group, Simple Tab Groups, and similar work a bit, but if I open a new window, and do some browsing, the old window does not know anything in the new window.

Is there a setting/plugin that can solve this problem? maybe I am missing some setting or I just don't know how to use the plugins... Thanks for your time. Best

HI everyone, On my desktop, I have a Firefox shortcut that has a bunch of tinyurl in the target field that opens a load of tabs for me.

Other desktop firefox shortcuts open the browser normally on my homepage.

The problem is, the target field isn't big enough, there's only room for 5 tinyurls. Or to be exact, any after the first 5 are ignored. Really, I need more, as many as 10. Is there another way of achieving this?

Note that I want this to be applied to a single Firefox desktop shortcut, so I can have one shortcut open the brower 'preloaded' with these tabs and another shortcut that opens the browser normally.

Thanks

Paul

I cannot fathom why Firefox doesn't have the drop-down list of open windows/tabs, is in some kind of rational order. This is crazy, as it could easily be in either chronological or alphabetical order! Hunting all over the list, every time I want to find a particular tab is hugely frustrating and time consuming...

I'm new to Android and I noticed having tabs in addition to windows is pretty bad UX, because the address bar is hidden during scrolling down so you need to always scroll up a bit in order to reach the Tabs button. I noticed the same shitty UX in Chrome. In contrast, the Android control buttons below are always reachable so it's one scroll and one click faster to switch among windows. I suggest we remove tabs from Firefox for Android and use windows instead - or at least make it configurable. The initial idea behind tabs 2000s was to reduce mouse movement, because you have the address bar close to the list of tabs. On touch screens though, that's history. Is there maybe a plugin to enable windows back?

I absolutely love the new containers feature of Firefox. Well done, FF crew!

One feature request: when I'm on, say, a tab in my Work container and I do a Cmd-T to create a new tab, I'd like to have that tab open in whatever container I was on -- so in this example, the new tab would open in the Work container. I know there's an menu item to open a tab in a specific container, but this would make it 2 steps faster. Is this already possible?

I had a whole bunch of tabs that had been open for quite some time on my browser that I was planning to go through. I have my browser set to restore tabs / previous session each time I open so all the previous tabs remain there, and have had no problems for a long time. However the last time I tried to close Firefox it gave a warning saying I was trying to close x amount of tabs. I thought it a bit strange considering it hadn't asked me this before when closing but didn't think anything of it and closed the browser, only to open it next time to find all my open tabs had gone rather than being restored as normal.

I hadn't knowingly changed any of my settings and its still set to 'Restore previous session', and I can't work out a) why it hasn't restored it and b) what changed to prompt it to ask me if I wanted to close my tabs and then remove them rather than what it has always done!

A number of websites constantly crash on Firefox on my home office computer. I can open them on the home office computer with Chrome. I can open them using my Firefox synced account on another computer in the house.

I can only open the websites in safe mode. I completely reinstalled Firefox using Revo-uninstaller, reinstalled, and tried to open the websites without syncing my account and they crashed so I guess this eliminates my sync ID as the problem and any add-ons since there were not any after the Revo-uninstall.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit with 16 GB RAM and the latest version of Firefox with Bitdefender antivirus. I deactivated all add-ons and plug-ins and still it crashes.

I did a full scan with bitdefender and malware bytes and found no threats with either. I optimized the hard drive. I turned off hardware acceleration.
