With the latest upgrade the tabs look nasty and just icon with name of the tab - no border. How can I get them looking like they used to look prior to the upgrade, please?

Another question is why after an upgrade do my settings for a new tab to open automatically to Google with the cursor in the search box get removed. Is there a way to get it right and save it so it remains with each upgrade. I don't like searching in the address bar.

Hello,

I keep getting Microsoft Windows Message telling me Firefox is running unnecessarily in the background. this is causing the battery to drain faster than normal. I kill it in the task manager but, it restarts a few seconds later.

Windows shows Firefox starts running in the background when windows starts. its running 89% in the background, my use is only 10% there is another 1% of unknown use. This background use of Firefox is also using 58% of the CPU causing other apps and programs, games I'm running to lag hang or stop.

I have uninstalled Firefox and used a cleaner to remove all leftover files, folders and registry keys then, rebooted, ran the cleaner again then, rebooted again then, reinstalled Firefox using a fresh install file. It's still running in the background.

I need to know how to stop Firefox from starting up and running in the background.

I even tried disabling Firefox updater and Firefox maintenance in the boot menu, that didn't stop Firefox from running in the background; doing that did lower the CPU use by Firefox 10%

Thank You

I am trying to read and respond to comments on articles on the Foxnews.com site. I have been doing this for a long time, Suddenly I can not.

Using iMac with latest SW. Firefox latest version. Also tried Chrome and Safari.

When I go to their home page my computer is logged in as usual automatically. However when I click on an article it displays the article but the comments section is never displayed and my computer is not logged on on that page, Nor is there a button to login again.

I have turned off tracking protection. And listedf the website as to allow ads etc I think, Not sure about the latter,

Baffling me. Any help would be nice.

Hello guys. I'm using RPi 4 8gb w/ Raspberry Pi OS latest version and while I'm taking my course the videos are not playing(I tried in Firefox ESR and Chromium). I already ask for support to Udemy Support and they told me that the problem was not on their part. I tried researching the problem but i can't seem to find the right solution so I came here hoping someone would help me fix the issue.

I hope I make my statement clear to you because English is not my native language. Thank you.

Here is the image of the error.

I don't now what happened but my tab bar has a different look to it now. Possible a Firefox update changed the look of my tab bar, but nonetheless, it is now harder to see the tab bar. It seems to have a more transparency look to it making it harder to see the tabs. How do I change the tab bar look to what it used to look like, which was easier to see? Can someone help? Thank you.

I'm getting Secure Connection Failed error on every single website I try to visit. Including sites such as microsoft.com, duckduckgo.com, google.com, etc. (Strangely, mozilla.org works fine.) Try Again never works, and Advanced - Accept risk works sometimes, but not always and if I close Firefox app and re-open it's back to the error page. I can't believe this is a common problem, so there must be something about my phone that's causing this. Android 11. Happens whether or not WiFi is enabled. What could it be?

Edit: Rewritten from scratch on Wednesday, June 16, 2021:

I am running the new Firefox 89.0 on Linux. Under the Edit menu, the Preferences option is now called Settings.

Please open Settings and search for site data. This displays the pertinent settings for Cookies and Site Data, and for History.

A Web SDR site is a website that gives each of its visitors the ability to tune a Software Defined Radio chip to a different frequency, independent of other users' listening preferences. The audio is streamed back to the user.

It requests that the user supply a user name, often a ham radio operator's callsign. This is used to display on the radio dial where each user is listening. If a name is missing, the user's IP address is used.

A cookie is stored with the user name, and if that cookie survives to the next visit to the site, the name does not have to be re-entered.

The web SDR can allow users to save custom memory presets, and cookies are said to be used to save memory presets "on your computer," and not on the server.

I had set cookie preferences for each site to always allow cookies, and my username was indeed carried over from one browser session to another. But my presets were never saved.

I finally discovered that it was not a cookie, but offline site data storage on my computer that retains these presets.

Under the History section in Preferences of earlier versions of Firefox, I told Firefox to use custom settings, and then I had set first- and third-party cookies to be allowed for the session. I told Firefox to Clear history when it closes, and in the "Settings ..." dialog, I unchecked everything but cache and offline site data. Only cache and offline site data were deleted.

The History section in Settings in FF 89.0 is still set for Firefox to use custom settings, but cookie options are not listed. I still tell Firefox to Clear history when it closes, and the "Settings ..." dialog is the same.

In the Cookies and Site Data section in Settings, I tell Firefox to Delete cookies and site data when it is closed. In the "Exceptions ..." dialog, I enter the address of the website and hit "Always" for everything entered, to save the site's cookies and data from the bulldozer.

It occurred to me that there are two duplicate means to clear cookies and site data.

I went to History and opened the "Settings ... " dialog again and cleared the checkbox for offline site data.

NOW my stored memories on the Web SDR sites are still here! In Firefox 89, do not use History's Clear history when Firefox closes to delete cookies or site data, for that will blow away the cookies that were saved in the Cookies and Site Data's Exceptions!

The browser was overhauled, and History's handling of cookies and site data became obsolete.

I do have a question here: If I am on a site, I can click on the lock in the address bar to retrieve a series of screens that lead me to the Security tab, and to its left, the Permissions tab. By selecting the Permissions tab, I can set the site's permissions for cookies and for persistent storage of site data.

If I set to allow cookies and allow site data in Permissions, does that enter the site address into the Settings' Cookies and Site Data's Exceptions dialog? Or must I still copy the address of the site and go to Settings and enter that in Exceptions also?

Fonts won't be correctly recognized by Firefox and text is then displayed garbled (see attached example). I use Firefox 89.0.1 (64-bit) on a MacBook Pro.

I've tried the following to fix this: I've cleaned out my cache and cookies. In Preferences/Languages/Fonts I've changed the san-serif type to Arial (helped some but not all); I've unchecked and then checked again "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selection above." I've started looking at the html code to figure out the font settings but I really just need to have a functioning brower.

Any thoughts? I'd be very grateful. It's impacting my work, and I'm having to use other browers, which function without issues - but I like Firefox! This is a bummer. Thanks!

For a couple of days I cannot get Firefox to run normally again. It is stuck in a weird looking state as showed in the screencap attached. It opens and I can click on some buttons from the interface but I cannot close it or enter settings, cannot browse or anything, it opens but its functionality is completely broken... I suspect this is following a recent windows update but I'm not sure...

Tried starting it in safe mode and refreshing the browser but it did not work. about:config does not work. I can type in the address bar but when I hit enter nothing happens.

Any suggestions of how could this be fixed without reinstalling it?

Thanks.
