I get the error: Video format or MIME type is not supported Most of the fixes i have seen apply to desktop but this seems to persist even for the mobile browser. I'm hoping that this is something Firefox fixes on their end to avoid having the users install their own fixes all the time, if possible for ALL platforms. It's just not right that we need to do our own individual workarounds when something as basic as playing a video should already be functional in the first place. Thank you.

I downloaded some Mozilla apps last week, apps that control mainly privacy plus Dark Screen. The next day I attempted to log in to my bank account and I couldn't. I got a message saying that Java Script was needed. This is very confusing because I did not knowingly disable Java script. I tried my other bank and got same message. I tried to log in using my Duck Duck Go browser and everything worked as it should. So how did this happen? I'm trying to figure out your instructions on how to enable Java script again, but can't find the menu for my Firefox browser. Sorry but I'm not tech savvy!

I am not sure this is the right forum to be asking all of the questions below but .. I am starting here and will be guided by your feedback if only some questions can be answered here.

All my questions pertain to Firefox Nightly on Android. 101.0a1 (Build #2015874793) It is my hope that the Q&A might help other users of Firefox Nightly on Android.

  1. (generic) Where will I find discussion of or documentation (specifications, user manual, usage notes, self-documenting source code, etc.) for the various Firefox settings accessible via about:config ?
  2. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.volume_scale setting?
  3. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.default_volume setting?
  4. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled setting?
  5. (generic) Is it reasonable to expect that a browser be able to determine either the RMS or Peak loudness of the src for a media element and mute (i.e. set ~.volume=0) if that loudness is above some user specified level? For example:
    • Might there be metadata within the file header that describes loudness just as there is metadata that describes duration?
    • Might parsing just the first 3-5 seconds of the file be sufficiently manageable to estimate loudness without grossly impacting page load-time or grossly taxing the CPU?
    • Might the default action be to set ~.volume=0 until such time as the browser has parsed the entire src to determine actual RMS loudness .. and only then restore ~.volume to user-prescribed maximum permitted volume iff RMS loudness is below a user prescribed threshold? (the bigger the file the longer that media is muted before it can be potentially unmuted!)

Thank you, in advance, for any time you spend responding to my questions. I am especially appreciative of links that I can follow to find answers for myself rather than being spoon-fed answers on a specific case by case basis.

Of course it working great on Windows FF version, unfortunately on mobile - not. Why you blocking such possibility?

Firefox v 98.2.0 Android 10

When viewing an image in landscape position, when I tap and drag up on the screen to enter full screen mode a horizontal bar appears at the bottom of the screen (not the Android navigation bar). This doesn't happen when using DuckGo or Chrome. How do I get rid of the bar at the bottom of the screen?

On my tablet, FF only displays 8 top sites. You have to swipe to get to more. This looks a bit silly on a tablet, with all that available space under the top sites to display many more icons on the home page. Is there a way to increase the number of top sites on the home page?

I decided to finally give the update a go on my phone since my account didn't want to relog back in. The size of the app got a bit bigger didn't it? I have yet to get a new phone, still on this Motorola, getting close to being 8 years old. Things work pretty well still, but I am running on fumes when it comes to storage space.

Not only is the new UI on Firefox... Kinda bad. I don't understand why the change had to happen to begin with, but the size increase isn't too... older devices friendly.

The reason why I'm still on this phone, is because it has been working well as is. If it's still working, why change it? We don't need constantly ever changing new things, themes and so on, some people get tired of it, especially when every single app out there starts blending together thematically, instead of keeping their own styles. Anyway, might have to find a different, lite-er browser for my phone for now. Been using Firefox for ages.

Everything i play a video it flips the screen horizontally when i want it vertically. I've read about "about:config" but that does nothing. I've read about taping 5 times on the Firefox logo to unlock debug menu, that did unlock it but didn't give me the option i needed.

Is there a way to have the video play without automatically flipping the screen horizontally? Surely there is that seems like a massive oversight if you cannot.

Hopefully someone can help, thanks !

How do i disable FF for android to open new tabs when i pick a recently visited page when i stand in the address field of an existing tab? If i starts typing an URL it opens in the existing tab, but if i pick a recently opened page, it opens a new tab. Even if i pick the very same site that's already open in a tab, it opens it in a new tab! This behavior is absolutely idiotic! If i want to open a new tab, i open a new tab. If i want to change the content of an existing tab, i go to the address field of that tab and pick whatever page i want to open in that tab! That's how FF on windows works, that's how it should work on android!
