For work I use a site at egov.ice.gov

Today, I received this notification:

BEGIN====

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will make changes to the way a user connects to The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) via browsers and batch software/middleware. The most notable of these impacts will be the complete lack of support for the Firefox browser. On Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, all versions of Firefox going back to at least v31.3.0 will cease to connect to the SEVIS websites. SEVP recommends the use of either Chrome or Internet Explorer (IE) browsers.

END==========

I send notices to the SEVP helpdesk asking for more information, but I really do not understand the rationale behind this decision. Is there a group at Mozilla that is interested in this kind of issue?

Well, I guess when I wrote the above I was expecting whatever help you might be able to give. Obviously, I'd like the problem fixed; how its done is up to someone who understands the problem and knows a whole lot more about these things than I do, and can communicate the procedure to me. This morning there was an Ubuntu software update and afterwards Firefox wouldn't work, it just opened and hung without ever connecting to a website. So I uninstalled, purged and reinstalled from Ubuntu Software and everything seemed ok. However, whenever I now try to save something, for instance images, the save to directory will default to /run/user/1000/docs even though I have my downloads folder selected in settings. I can change to the directory I want to save to and it will save there, but when I next save something it will again want to go to the /run/user/1000/docs folder. Further, I find that a copy of anything I save has also been saved into that folder, creating a new sub-directory to do so. I tried clear data in settings but that didn't delete those files and they are protected in file manager so I can't delete them myself. This will fill my hard drive pretty quickly as well as being really annoying having to change the save directory every time. What can I do to rectify this? I've now got version 96.0 (64 bit) installed.

Hi, when I use Firefox on this machine, the bookmark sync doesn't work as expected. Instead of maintaining the order of the other devices' bookmark toolbar, it is ordering the non-folder bookmarks before the foldered bookmarks. How can I make it so the bookmark toolbar is the same across all devices? I have tried deleted places.sqlite and backupbookmarks folder.

OS: Debian 11

Thank you!

Linux 7.8.2003. Just did yum update. Firefox was updated. My customization (menu bar on) was OK. Running it, my bookmarks appear as before, but clicking on one, nothing happens. Ditto Help menu, where I tried to see Firefox version number. Just now, I tried again, by accident holding mouse button down instead of clicking on Bookmarks or Help, move pointer to desired option, release button. This amazingly works. So I can tell you version of Firefox is 68.7.Oesr (64-bit). (I usually use NoScript, but disabled it for this test, same result.) I am sending this help request from a different machine, so did not click Share Data.

Hello,

Since about 3 weeks, Firefox hang on certain websites while trying to load them, when un-ticking all "Firefox Home Content" items. When those things are ticked, everything is fine. Wasn't happening before. Often a gray geared wheel appear and at other times only the "tab text" appear, please see the attached screen shot. I'm able to click on "File Edit View...", the items present on the bookmark toolbar, "Refresh", "Home" but the action is executed only when Firefox un-hang. I'd already get a look at Firefox help tutorials but there was nothing about "The "Firefox Home Content" can cause Firefox to hang".

It take me about 10 minutes to load this current page. "Firefox Home Content" are not ticked right now.

Thanks,

Guillaume
