I uninstalled thunderbird and when I try to reinstall it I get a "cannot find temp archive" message.

I've installed thunderbird for another user on the same computer and had no trouble.

Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

Can't get old profile to work

Had to re-install Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Saved Tbird Profiles folder to USB thumb drive. Re-installed Windows then installed latest Tbird version (same one I was using). … (read more)

Had to re-install Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Saved Tbird Profiles folder to USB thumb drive. Re-installed Windows then installed latest Tbird version (same one I was using). Opened Choose User Profile > Selected Create Profile > Selected Use the selected profile... > Exited Choose User Profile.

Then went to the thumb drive > Opened a profile folder > Copied everything > Then pasted it into the new profile folder I had just created. Opened TBird but it didn't have any of my settings or emails.

The thumb drive had 3 profile folders in it so I repeated these steps for each folder. But still didn't get my settings, etc.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't even know what the subject is. Thunderbird just disappeared of the PC..

I downloaded Thunderbird, set it up with 3 email accounts played around with it all afternoon, closed it then when I try and open it back up it's like it's not there at all. It takes me back the the 'thanks for downloading page and opens the bit for me to set up a new email. There are no folders there at all. All I can do is start afresh and enter the email addresses again. This can't be right???....

This is minor, however, some addons that I need currently only work up to version 138. The version found at Index of /pub/thunderbird/releases/138.0.2/win64/ is actually version 139.x. I was able to download 138.0.1 at Index of /pub/thunderbird/releases/138.0.1/win64/

Hi, after an update, i have the newest version of Thunderbird installed. Upon starting, it says: "Unable to use profile when you launch an older version of Thunderbird." I cannot start the program. But it is the newest version... What can I do? Thanks Lukas

I was following instructions for the problem of some task bar icons showing as grey boxes. Still have that problem plus added the problem that thunderbird launches with the setup accounts dialogue page. The 'help>troubleshooting information>profile file location' reveals the correct profiles that have been updated to the hour before I caused the problem. I have saved the '...roaming/thunderbird folder to an external SSD, and made a new new thunderbird installation following the instructions for moving files to a new computer. Problem persists. Thunderbird will not 'see' the profiles therefore I cannot see my emails.

This are big directories taking a lot of disk space.

I converted as advised and then updated to the newest version. I lost everything except the messages: the Address Book, Tags, Message Filters, and Folders are all gone. This is a disaster after 15+ years with Thunderbird. It started when I copied the folder "profiles" from my laptop to my PC for the 1,000th time. Is there a simple step-by-step solution? Without the history or apologies etc. etc? Just "do this?" My solution now is to do all my email on my laptop. Ugh!

i`m trying to restore my TB after my current version failed to d/load e-mails from server this all seemed to happen after latest up-dates its been faultless before this please someone restore my sanity some one on one help would be appreciated

About a decade ago, I zipped my local Thunderbird email folders to archive for future use. Recently I installed Thunderbird again so I could access those emails and attachments. Doubtless I missed a step or instruction.

I copied the folders to the location recommended by one of the pages on this site (as I understood it at any rate). Namely: appdata/roaming/Thunderbird/profiles/8i4zk81v.default-release/Mail/Local Folders.

The folders and emails all show up in the folder and message list panes, but no text or attachments show up in the message pane when a message is selected. Not even the email header appears if I double-click to open an email. I can still read the message text using notepad one of two ways, either: 1) the entire sub-folder (e.g., "Personal") by selecting the file with no extension (i.e., "Personal" rather than "Personal.msf") from the list in Local Folders, or; 2) an individual message in a corresponding folder called "Personal.mozmsgs". Of course, I have no idea which message I read until I open it.

Just in case it helps to know, the IMAP connection with one of my gmail addresses works just fine.

I'm trying to reduce size of TB Profile folder (2.45GB) I observe that my TB Profile, Imap.Mail folder contains two folders for Yahoo.com, one of which I suspect is unnecessary.

- imap.mail.yahoo.com 27 MB

- imap.mail.yahoo-1.com 2.29 GB. This folder has the more recent "Date Modified" date.

Please see screenshot. No problems with TB operations.

Can one of these be deleted? Which one? How? (i.e., any re-naming involved?)

Last week my TB stopped working all of a sudden, wasn't doing anything, no errors messages at all. I reinstalled it and it picked right up where it left off. Now today, I come in and again it won't work, but now it says it is because of my profile being for an older version.

How did my profile get updated to a newer version and since I just updated my TB to the latest version, why isn't it working now?? I tried to go back to the version from last week and it still doesn't work, but it also doesn't work with the newest version. I really need my profile to work and I'm really upset about this. Can anyone help?
