I have Thunderbird 125.0 (64-bit) on Win 11.

Everything works perfectly, BUT..

If I select File->Exit then it just goes into not responding mode and I have to end task to restart TB.

If I just click X then the window closes but If I click my thunderbird icon to bring it back up, nothing happens.

I often have multiple TB processes which I have to kill.

On system restart, everything is fine unless I try to exit TB.

In case it matters, I have private ISP email acc, and 1 hotmail and 1 gmail acc.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks Steve

On 12/12/23 I posted a query 'How do I stop mails being duplicated in a folder?'. I recently discovered by chance that in most cases repairing the folder fixes this. Good news! But it's still happening many times a day, sometimes on 'busy' folders that I regularly move to/delete from, sometimes on infrequently used folders.

What might be causing this please? As I said previously, what was an occasional problem became much worse after Supernova.

Thank you.

I'm getting a "nonoverridable TLS error" message when Thunderbird first opens. Also, new emails won't download into my IMAP account. I've tried adjusting the incoming and outgoing server port settings and even turning off the antivirus and phishing email scanners. Nothing works. It's now 1:59 PM on a Thursday afternoon and I've received no new emails since 11:20 AM. Please give me security settings that will work.

Has anyone seen a message similar to this when trying to attach a document, usually a pdf to an email?

O:\XXXXXXXXXX.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

Also, when someone send me an image file, I can't open it directly from the email. I have to download it and then open it. This isn't as big of an issue as the above, but I thought I'd ask it too.

Thank you

My computer indicated that there were updates to install. I clicked the update button. A whole host of items were updated, including operating system updates. When it was all over, Firefox opened up with an appeal for a donation. I made a donation. When I returned from the donation, I opened up Thunderbird. The screen was so magnified, there was no section where you could see the whole section. Particularly annoying was the return of the "new Thunderbird" which I had suppressed using a Thunderbird app that gave me back the old Thunderbird screen which I knew how to operate. How do I get rid ov the magnification and get my old Thunderbird screen back?

I apologize if I seem grumpy. I wish Mozilla wouldn't change things that don't need changing. Also, I'm 84.

I believe the recent 124.0.1 is the issue ? Can this be confirmed, where can I check if this issue is widespread & the ETA to an eventual fix ?

Recently I have been unable to send mail from one of two accounts which are both aol. One of them is netscape. Now I get a 5.7.1 sender address rejected. I'm sure it is a settings problem and probably one dealing with passwords, but I cannot resolve it. Help!!

I asked this question about 115.4.1 and was told to try in safe mode. However I cannot connect to my mail servers of which I have 2 and Gmail when in safe mode. Please look into the resource handling problem with the new Thunderbird under Win10.

1) Whenever I open Thunderbird the Gmail messages apparently get refreshed taking several minutes. I have cleaned up that inbox and limited to 366 days of mail.

2) I spent hours moving mail from past year from my other accounts into local storage. You no longer can scroll and block select more than about 20-30 messages at a time regardless of the background activity 1) above. The program requires you to repeatedly release shift key to grab more than a few messages. If you are able to grab say 1000 messages, and try to move them, the system chokes and does not respond.

3) Any background activity impedes the ability to scroll the inbox.

The new versions are crippled in some way as far as resources. The older version was more tolerant.

Please listen to complaints. Putting in safe mode I cannot troubleshoot. It is also very difficult in Win10 to follow instructions to safe mode unlike previous OS.

Suddenly, I could not send emails. This has happened before, but quite some time ago, so I can't recall how I solved it back then. I went through the “Cannot Send Messages” https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages steps and discovered that there was no entry line at all for smtp outbound when I checked "Saved Logins" to see the passwords. Mailbox inbound was there, but not smtp outbound. It had been there before without doubt.

The original error message said that I needed to enter a password, which, when I checked as I described, was missing. So trying again, I entered the password and checked the box that lets the system manager remember it. Now an smtp outbound line appeared in "Saved Logins," but I still could not attempt to send a message without an error notice that declared failure

This error message I kept getting was this one:

  Login Failed
? Login to server outbound.att.net failed
  [Retry] [Enter New Password] [Cancel]

(As you can see, the underlying email service is from the unfortunate ATT/Yahoo, the second half of which is known by the lovely name "Oath" (visions of writhing fanatics swearing allegiance at a blazing altar), which I am seeking to replace. Meanwhile, I must have working email service from it through the heretofore wonderful client Thunderbird.)

Imagine my surprise when I happened to check the "Sent" box and discovered that these messages all were listed as having gone out despite the failure message I was receiving, but given that tests I sent to myself were not received, these must have been on the order of "false positives." I tried the steps in that "Cannot Send Messages" article and cannot imagine what is wrong.

What am I missing?

Thank you.

I had 115.2.2 installed and all was good. I upgraded last night to 115.7 and things seemed ok but I am now on the road at Atlanta airport and I can neither send nor receive email. In the lower left corner of the display it alternately is stuck on compuserve: connected to imap.AOL.com or my other server eberger35:connected to imap.comcast.net

If I try to send a message from either my compserve/AOL, or comcast, or gmail accounts I get this error message:

The message could not be sent because the connection to outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net timed out. Try again.

If I try to send from the compuserve or gmail accounts the message will reflect that server SMTP has failed instead.

I think everything was working at home before I left, but I'm not sure if I checked mail after I upgraded. Perhaps the problem is the Atlanta airport Wifi, but I won't be at my destination till much later today and thought I would post this now in case someone has an answer. I will be able to get the reply on my iPhone. Thank you.

Hi Everyone, I have been reading the posts for some time since the problems with the new TB.

TB is still crashing (white screen of death) once or twice a day. Not complaining, just reporting.

Actually the biggest headache for me are some of the features that worked well prior to the new releases but are broken now.

I will only ask for help with one of them that is the biggest slow-down and bother for me.

I have TB set up to check accounts for new mail every 10 minutes. It gives an audio alert. Nice.

But I had TB also set up to highlight in a red color, the account that actually has the waiting message. I set this up many years ago.

That feature stopped working.

I have many email accounts, so when I hear the mail-waiting audio alert, I have to go to each one individually, Right Click and select Get Messages to see if it is that particular account that has message waiting to be retrieved from the email server.

Is this feature broken forever? Anyway to fix it in the recent releases?

Yes I know about the Get all messages possibility but that is not workable for me right now and it would be too much typing to explain it. haha.

Thanks everyone, jenny_abc
