Hello

I do not understand how firefox sync is supposed to work. I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is FF 85 on Linux Mint (I cannot get a later version due to some querk) The laptop is 99 on Windows 10 Both are signed in to sync but my bookmarks were scrambled so I signed out the laptop and cleared the profile, cleaned up the bookmarks in the desktop and to be safe I tried just syncing the tabs, not the bookmarks, by opening the fresh firefox on the laptop and signing in again. In the sidebar under my account icon I clicked "Synchronise now" and the open tabs from my desktop appeared in a list underneath, jumbled up. (I have 2 separate windows open on the desktop with different tabs in each, but this separation was not followed either, there didn’t seem to be any provision for syncing tabs in two separate windows)

But the row of tabs didn’t open, all I can do is open them one by one from the list on the right, this is a slow process as every time I click on a tab in the list the new page opens in the same single tab, not a new one, but the sidebar closes again.

Is this what’s supposed to happen? I was expecting the synced row of tabs to open automatically.

This feature would have been useful as my OS on the desktop, (Linux Mint) tends to crash and to have the on the laptop would be a good backup.

Incidentally the other way I try to back up the lost tabs is to select them all and bookmark them to a new folder which I call “backup” but it seems this doesn’t necessarily duplicate them, which I would prefer, so any of the open tabs that were previously bookmarked risk being removed from the original bookmarked folder, without my noticing, and I am therefore reluctant to delete the backup folder without checking that it doesn’t contain the only bookmark of a page.

When I came back to syncing the bookmarks, how do I avoid them getting scrambled again?

About a week ago, Firefox suddenly stopped opening any download links I click on. When I click a link, the little dots in the Tab description slide back and forth and then just stop and nothing further happens.

I ran Firefox in Safe Mode and everything worked fine so I assumed it was an Add-On (I don't run any extensions). I restarted Firefox and disabled all extensions and then tried again...same problem, no downloads will start. I checked Hardware Acceleration and it's turned off and my Theme is set for basic.

As a further step, I uninstalled Firefox 32-bit and installed 64-bit. Unfortunately, the problem continues.

At this point I'm uncertain as to what else I can troubleshoot.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! :)

BlogThis! (provided by Blogger/Blogspot/Google) is a javascript that I keep in my bookmark tool bar. Clicking on it opens a popup that includes the title/url of the focus tab for blogging. Cuts down substantially on cut/paste/edit that can impact accuracy.

It stopped working after the latest upgrade - 85.0 (64-bit) - and started throwing a "popup blocked" message in my way.

I have not tested the WordPress version - Press this - which is s similar javascript provided by WordPress for the same function.

Whitelisting the blogger.com url did nothing, and I cannot whitelist every site I might ever want to quote from without turning off popup blocking.

This is beyond annoying.

I get popup blocking. I use in all of my browsers, but for years I have been using FF as my primary browser. You seem determined to push me away. (Making me log into the browser, giving you access to everything I am doing just to ask a support question is also not cool.)

Hello,

is it possible to have individual sync settings for different instances of Firefox? In my case I would like to sync passwords only between my desktop instances and not to my android instance. But every time when I deselect the password sync option on Android it is also deactivated on all other instances. Having the passwords synced to Android is, in my opinion, a security issuse since the Android version of Firefox does not require any unlock procedure (password, pin, pattern, fingerprint, ...) before the stored paswords and log-in data can be used.

Best regards, Heiko

I want to sync the new firefox version with all my data and choices that are on the older version of firefox. I think I am being told to sync my older firefox settings with firefox on my phone. I do not have a phone. I only have 1 laptop. I need help, I don't know how to accomplish syncing with 2 different firefoxes on the same laptop.

A link for "Other Bookmarks" has appeared in the Toolbar after the dropdown icon for the 'extra' items that won't fit across the screen. Also, a space has appeared between the rightmost bookmark and the dropdown. I had adjusted display resolution for easier viewing, but putting it back to Default makes no diff - except for size, obviously. Haven't found anything in Prefs to add/remove this. Screenshot attached. Many thanks for any help. PeterT

My town web site allenstown-alt.org has links at page bottom to my personal web site www.mafware.com. Suddenly after I installed Firefox 85, if I clicked on the Mafware Solutions link at page bottom, it went to a scrambled version of the current allenstown-alt page looking like it lost the css file that controls page elements but the address bar shows https://www.mafware.com/ If I added index.html to the URL, it correctly went to mafware.com

I tried using Edge and got the same weird results. Even after a Windows 10 Restart, I get the same weird behavior. Has anyone else had this problem? Did something weird happen to Windows 10?

Hi,

I'm a bit old and really need someone nearby to come show me how to navigate into your securities and other benefits, someone who really knows all this. Is that possible? I get confused by the complexities of everything you offer.

For example, I read something about Ad blocker which said it wants access to all my inforamation- does that mean they want all my bank numbers for trading stocks? That would seem ridiculous, no?

It would also be time to make a small donation to assist your existence. How?

Thank you, Doug Calder [phone number] and you have the rest.

In the most recent update notes, it's said that Firefox "now remembers your preferred location" for bookmarks. However, the location chosen now as my preferred is just some random folder. Is there a way to set the preferred location? Or at least set the browser to do what it did before, which is save to the last-used folder? Thanks!

<start rant>I see that all the menus have disappeared from firefox in the top of the window on my PC since a couple of years now. This is such an annoying "improvement".

The worst thing is - it keeps getting more and more difficult to open them with each successive "improvement" you make.

I actually use firefox for my job, not to watch tiktok videos or browse facebook or watch inane people do inane things on instagram.

Heads up , you developers. To be able to "do" things with your freaking software you need to be able to "click" on easily accessible drop-down menus.

So, why don't you give us stupid users the option to always have menus displayed the whole freaking time? Then, if some of us are backward enough to want to click on menus to do stuff, then we can still do that ! </end rant>

My sneaking suspicion is that you guys don't want us to control where we go on the internet at all. You want double click to tell us what we need to see and do and then you all earn $$$$.
