Hi. I'm having an issue with Firefox 8. I updated a little while ago. At first, everything seemed fine, but just today, when I opened Firefox to browse the Internet, it never appeared, though I heard it running. The window itself would disappear every time I tried to access Firefox, despite still showing in the preview window. In addition, every time I clicked to open firefox, multiple windows appear to have opened to the Mozilla start page. Despite this, none of them appear on the desktop when maximized. I have tried to access Firefox through the task manager, restarting my comuputer multiple times, attempted to access Firefox in safe mode, and even re-installed and uninstalled Firefox itself three separate times. I have also attempted to use Ctrl-Alt -Delete as well as Ctrl-Alt-Space-M, and such fixes I have come across in attempt to fix this issue, none of which has resolved this problem Firefox is the main browser that I use. It is frustrating to me that I cannot access the browser. It seems to be functioning well, other than the fact that I cannot see the content I am I am trying to access in anything other than a thumbnail preview displayed when I hover over the desktop icon. Is anyone else having a similar issue, or is this something I am doing wrong?

I have run virus scans on my computer, which is only a few months old, and this does not seem to be a hardware issue. If anyone has any advice, solutions or just has the same problm, input would be much appreciateed. I'm getting close to the end of my tether if this keeps happening. Thank you so much for any help you could offer. I would be hugely grateful I cannot access my troubleshooting information for this question due to the aforementioned issue. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Edit: As of 11/27/11, I have also tried rolling back to previous versions of this browser to see if that fixed this issue, all to no avail. I have uninstalled and re-installed this browser several times, still with no end to this issue in sight. I've decided to leave Firefox uninstalled for the time being, out of sheer frustration with this issue. I really do love Firefox, but it's of no use to me if I cannot access the content I'm attempting to view. I hope this issue gets resolved in the future, as being forced to switch browsers has thrown me for a bit of a loop. Thanks again for your time and consideration in this matter.

I have tried so many sites, that I really don't remember what you had me do. But it had to do with deleting add-ons (I think) that I don't use. So I clicked on one that had something to do with shopping at home, and maybe two more. Then I said okay. However, you had automatically shown to delete Norton Secure log in and another that had to do with Symantec -- I think it said IPS? Well now the secure log in is gone, and so are my passwords! I want it back, but I don't know how to get it. Help!!

My old computer is dead. However the drive is still functional and I have it attached to the new computer as an external drive. Unfortunately I can't find where Firefox stores the bookmark list (alas it's not in the 'favorites' folder). I want to bring those bookmarks into the new Firefox.

I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my laptop (Windows 7 professional 64-bit). The thing is that firefox doesn't prompt to save passwords for sites. I will explain you a little further by using an example: Assume that I load www.gmail.com. When I logged on, the key of the password manager appears on the left side of the address bar but the relevant window that would ask if I want to save the password or not, doesn't appear. I have tried every possible solution. It's true that when I restart firefox with add-ons disabled (safe mode), password manager works fine. But I don't really use any add-ons that would prevent firefox from saving passwords. I disabled all add-ons and ran firefox at normal mode but password manager didn't work again. Please bear in mind that I have tried everything and that no post published so far describes a case problem similar to mine. Consider that I even I configured the whole system from the beginning. The problem appeared again from the first time I launched firefox. At that time, I hadn't installed any antivirus software and there was no add-on along with firefox. Hope that somebody can provide me with some meaningful solution...

Meebo is a web based IM site that allows you to use AIM, GChat, etc. When I use it with Firefox in Windows, it works perfectly fine. When I use it in OSX, I get odd graphics issues. Individual chat boxes lose their frames, the text gets highlighted or sometimes disappears.

It works perfectly fine in Firefox 8 for Windows in XP, Vista and Win7 while it is glitchy in OSX Lion and Snow Leopard.

Vista 32 bit - Firefox 8.0.1 - Flash will not install. Under plugins I do not have Flash available and when I searched for new plugins I did not find it on there either.

Once I get to the final step of setup either the flashplayer downloader does not come on at all or it goes to "manual install". I have tried to install directly from my download folder as well. I recently reformatted my computer and after downloading Firefox this problem has occured. I have done extensive research online and tried many different things to fix this; completely reinstalled Firefox, uninstalled my old version of Flash that I had with Internet Explorer browser, updated all Java Platforms, tried to update from sites requiring flash directly (ie; youtube), tried reinstalling Flash from adobe directly and through Firefox support links. I do not know what else to try at this point. Any tips would be very appreciated.

Javascript bookmark dialogs stopped working

I have some bookmarks on my Bookmarks Toolbar whose address is a Javascript snippet:

javascript:Qr=document.getSelection();if(!Qr){void(Qr=prompt('Enter subject to lookup in Wikipedia:',''))}if(Qr)location.href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/'+escape(Qr)+'%20'

This will open a dialog box asking "Enter subject to lookup in Wikipedia", and takes that word or phrase and passes it on to Wikipedia's search page. With some editing, this code can also work for other sites, like dictionary.com.

So, when I upgraded to Firefox 8, these JS bookmarks turned into dotted squares for icons, and they no longer open a dialog box. Instead, only the site itself displays.

I've searched for a solution, but all I found were references to "keyword bookmarks". But AFAIK this is a different concept, because they're meant to be typed in the address bar, e.g. "w searchterm", and I don't know how it could be made into an item on the bookmark toolbar.

Any ideas for a workaround?
