Lots of problems migrating from Windows Live Mail. I've imported my contacts, but they are scrambled. The columns contain the wrong information. Is there any way to unscramble them?? Your "Help" often tells me to click on something that does not appear on my computer. Very frustrating to go through help procedures that lead to a blank wall.

Hi, In a new Windows 11 PC Thunderbird 115.81.1 (64-bit) was installed. Then I did /Server Settings/Message storage/Local Directory/F:Mail

The F:\Mail is an external USB-drive. The left pane then showed two main folders:

x@y.no Local Folders

In both of these there is an Inbox sub-folder. The one under "Local Folders" shall be set as the "Global Inbox". In many pages on the web, e.g. a MozillaZine page, it is explained how to do this. The key point here is to navigate to the "Server Settings" and clock on the "Advanced button".

My problem is that there is none; see the uploaded image.

Could anyone, please, tell me where I did my error?

Best regards; ChG

Since installing Ubuntu 23.10 on my new desktop pc, Thunderbird is failing to see the account details in .thunderbird I copied all the files from my backup into a new account directory (/home/cfi/.thunderbird/y4xyxmli.default), a technique that has worked many times in the past, but not this time. Previously, thunderbird has simply taken the settings from the backed up files and used those to connect to my organisation's mail server. Any ideas? How can I force Thunderbird to read the old account settings?

Many thanks.

hi i'm at my whits end trying to get my data across from windows mail. I paid someone to sort this, and he said it will continue to say the connection is lost while getting data across from windows mail. its been a week now. i cant get it to work properly. none of my addresses are there, mail continues to not arrive at my PC (when I've got it on my phone), it just keeps saying loading message 1 of 3457. but never gets to the total. the number has remained the same for many days now so obviously its loaded all the emails, but it still appears stuck. also the preview window seems to not work (has worked once or twice). frustrated...

dont want to buy stupid microsoft products but i just cant work this way?

When trying to configure thunderbird to work with our website, no matter what we do, it keeps producing error messages, even though everything is correct, and will not finish the configuration. And others that worked previously have ceased working all together. from today I cannot download my gmail to Thunderbird, I'm getting always here below error code:

“400 invalid_request” or “Access blocked: App sent an invalid request,” it means the app uses an authorization method that Google doesn't allow. Google has safe ways for you to sign in and share your Google Account data with third-party apps and sites.

Please let me know how to proceed.

I'd hoped this question was answered at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer, but that article assumes a Mac-to-Mac migration, and it doesn't work for a Windows-to-Mac migration. The discussion at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1324908 addresses the issue, but what the poster did to get things working is rather vague ("I took more from one [response] and a little from the other two...]. Can someone please summarize or point me to a summary of what needs to be done to move the files in a TB installation on Windows 10 to MacOS 14 Sonoma so that the installation on the Mac will work like the one on Windows did?

I have a lot of old mail, so my TB directory is over 40 GB. Copying it from my Windows machine to my Mac (either over a network or via a USB drive) takes quite a while, so I'm trying to avoid any more trial and error than I've already gone through.

Thanks.

PS - I apologize for the use of raw URLs above, but I was unable to figure out Mozilla's markup language, and there's no preview button for posts, so I decided to go with something I figured was unlikely to get mangled in the publication process.

I'm using TB 45.7.1. I had a ransomware malware, so I chose to wipe the disk and reinstall X7 Pro. Before wiping I backed up C: & D;--both on the same SSD, so I have access to my prior User data. I copied both Local & Roaming old Profiles to my new User TB folders. I followed the directions to open the Profile Manager, but it can only see 1 default profile--iow I can only see the new one installed when i reinstalled TB.

Using TB troubleshooter, I can see both when I click the Show Folder button, but that's all I can do.

I do NOT want to put these OLD emails in the new install, but some of them I may need to look at again to get info that is ONLY in them.

How can I easily switch between them?

I, and with many others, have the following problem: If I want to create a gmail account in Thunderbird via IMAP, I will arrive at the following screen:

Whatever I click or do not react in test. We have tried several gmail acoount. All account work via login on the site. Everything that is mentioned on the internet does not work. The security through the site has also been reduced. All virus scanners are disabled, Java updated or reinstalled. And again: many more people have this problem, but no one has received a solution. What else can we (I) do?

there is no cue to enter a value such as email address or whatever. "< Back" and "Next>" are grayed out. "Cancel" is the only option. Why must i cancel before anything happens?

This same pattern holds true when trying to migrate the calendar from Outlook. The Wizard's Wand is broken?

Obviously, it is operator error...but what is the error?

I want to try the latest version of TB without updating and therefore clobbering my previous version.

I've done this in the past , but with each new release, this becomes harder and harder and harder, because all sorts of stuff is run behind my back, and invariably my existing installation gets clobbered one way or another. I think there used to be a web page that explained how to do this, maybe for the purpose of trying nightly builds, but if it still exists I cannot find it.

I don't mind copying my profile, I just want to be able to keep using the old version if I don't like the new version, or until I can do all the necessary customizations to undo all the unnecessary (for me) changes that have been made.

Please do not answer "use portable TB" unless you tell me the exact steps to do that when there is an existing installation that should not be touched. This is for win 7 64bit.

Thanks for the help.
