I am so angry. I have been around since the beginning of Firefox and well know that I should be doing searches to find answers...... but frankly, I just need to vent.

/begin venting I was sucked into upgrading again and once again I am completely ef'd over. You'd think I'd learn, right? Nooooo, not me. I'm focused on a project and I don't pay much attention to anything else until I come up for air. So now I am up for air and screaming.

I do not have time for this crud-- I am trying to use a completely different app that I do NOT have time to learn right now. Where are my saved pages? Why does it keep opening new tabs then leaving them there? I must have 100 pages open!!! Dammit, people!

No options to customize except for a choice between a light or dark theme and another choice to put the searchbar on the top or the bottom? Where is my homepage URL located? How can I set one to open each time I load Firefox? Why don't my saved pages have thumbnails anymore? How can I prevent opened pages from being deleted by an accidental finger swipe? These are just tip of the iceberg things.

Dammit, people.... what the hell are you thinking ? You really think people enjoy hoop jumping so much that new features are worth it? NOOOOOOOO, we really don't.

This is not so much a question but a cry for mercy... please, please, please... no more 'upgrades', no more 'improvements' that aren't. I've been using computers since 1979 (my first was a Tandy TRS80) but I'm now 74 and can't keep up. After the last couple of 'upgrades' Tbird and FF have become almost unusable. :-(

I have two Mac OS machines. On one it was easy, I clicked to update TB and it switched from 68 to 78 as a completely normal update, nothing special, and without any problem. Perfect.

However, on the other, I did exactly the same but all I get is the spinning baseball. I tried re-installing TB but still get the spinning baseball. I force quit TB and restarted but still get the spinning baseball. I left it spinning for half and hour and then was told that the app memory was full and that TB was not responding. So I currently have no access at all to any emails, stored or otherwise. And cannot access any menus or anything.

Complete disaster: any ideas how to save the day?

Long time Thunderbird user. Have migrated files to Tbird from 1994 (Eudora).

On current version (78.2.2).

A buggy Windows 10 update got me in a jam and I had to do a refresh which wiped Thunderbird (possibly a slightly less current version).

I (eventually) found the correct 'xyz.default' folder in my Profiles mess [see (1) below] and am moving forward. But now my address folder is a mere shadow of their former selves.

I seem to recall a feature (perhaps an add-on?) that would go out and 'harvest' email addresses from the local folders. Maybe I'm just hopeful, but I thought I could select just mails I have sent.

I searched the help here and have found a couple of .mab files from the past (history and impab), but the current abook.mab does not look right to me when I peer in with notepad - too few addresses.

Any help?

Dave

(1) - I have 2 decades plus worth of Tbird Profile files from misc crashes and migrations. Not *fully* understanding the structure, I've kept them all... 26 years of emails are precious. Any pointer to a file structure tutorial?

In the left sidebar of my iMac, Archives 2011-2013 are missing. Can they be restored? I really need 2013 messages and diagrams. I can't remember when I first noticed the problem, maybe three years ago. At the time I just accepted it, but now I have a need for retrieving 2013. Can you help please?

Thunderbird Setup 78.3.3.exe does not work or install. 2nd thoughts on "TB tells me every day it must be 'Updated' but then states the computer must re-started."

Someone made a suggestion (thank you Matt) but can't find the that response here. Matt said this might help:

Restart Thunderbird (TB) with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". I assume you would then try the update it keep asking for.

This was done as I was able to start TB and just tried that. On the help Menu and then on the About tab: It said: Thunderbird 78.3.3 (32-bit) Release notes.

So 78.3.3. was installed but TB tells me every day it must be 'Updated' but then states the computer must re-started. If I don't, TB simple closes. If I do restart and try again to update: TB closes and the endless computer restarts begins again. I would guess TB see's a need to update but it doesn't really and goes into a software loop (with no correct answer). I tried to contact a person at Mozilla/Thunderbird and can find no human help.
