Doing Genealogy where all the URL's dragged to the desktop have the same File naming but all have different URL addresses. . If I copy a file to the desktop by dragging and dropping, "1940 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com" is the shortcut name for the URL in the address bar, but coping another Bookmark fails....

First Bookmark for Steve V. Patterson, "https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1940usfedcen&indiv=try&h=59642982&indivrecord=1", Bookmark File on desktop is named "1940 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com"

Then I want to save another URL to the desktop from this page of another linked URL...

Second Bookmark for Paul Ranney, "https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1940usfedcen&indiv=try&h=59642985&indivrecord=1", Bookmark File on desktop is named "1940 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com"

But You can't have a bookmark with the same files name even with different URL's that generate the bookmarks.

A copy file warning appears..... Copy and Replace or Don't Copy If I select the copy and replace, it will not replace it with the Second URL but keeps the old First URL.

Other browsers, IE which I used without problems, will automatically copy that process and make two files as below...... "1940 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com" and "1940 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com(1)" each has the specific URL the made the Desktop. I see no way to solve same Shortcut/Bookmark names to the desktop. Your method fails to solve it with the"Copy and Replace"

Its like the URL gets stuck and will not change for new Bookmarks dragged to the Desktop.

Hi, I used to use Firefox and stopped when the web extensions code went live. It broke my bookmark pane extension and at that point there was nothing differentiating Firefox from Chrome.

So I switched to Chrome. I wanted to start using Firefox again and use the Mozilla sync to sync bookmarks. I did the following:

Delete all bookmarks then sync. Import from Chrome. This worked fine. Moved a couple of folders to the right place. Synched. This worked fine initially.

After a few hours I synced and half a dozen bookmarks appeared in "Other Bookmarks" folder in Firefox. Iniitially this was empty, so an easy spot.

These all appeared to be duplicates, so I was a bit annoyed, I do have duplicates for good reason, but hey ho.

This morning I synced and there are a few hundred more now. It has just picked random bookmarks, literally no logic behind it and dumped them all in Other bookmarks.

I don't know what's going on, but it's rendered Firefox impossible to use properly for me.

Any ideas?

Thank you :)

The current bookmarks include text, which is totally unnecessary IMHO, especially after using IE (although MS loused up this in edge too.) Having many book marks to go to and seeing the loss of convenience when having to go through another menu to find the desired bookmark, why not have the ability to use small icons? Why not make it simpler? Why not make it easy? Why not live up to the propaganda of being a better browser?

Google's rainbow G icon displays as my favicon for all YouTube pages and videos that I bookmark. But in the tab, YouTube's red rectangle with a white play arrow still appears.

This issue first appeared in my bookmarks several weeks ago. I do not have this issue in my Chrome browser. I've already tried the Forget About This Site option in History, but to no avail. I've also tried clearing cached web content and site data in Firefox's Options, again to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.

Using the search feature in "bookmarks" searches then entire bookmarks folder. In order to manage my bookmarks, I would like to be able to search within the folder that is active and move items to different folder. At present, when you move bookmarks to another folder they continue to appear in the search window. It would be great if it functioned more like the search feature in MS Windows

Post v59 update/Post macOS 10.13.4 update: Older Bookmarks no longer internally referenced. How to reclaim prior config/settings?

Ever since I both updated Firefox to version 59.0.2 and the MacOS to version 10.13.4 all of my many bookmarks set prior to the updates are no longer internally referenced--meaning that opening a saved bookmark doesn't open as I'd saved it, instead Firefox searches the internet and finds that version, scraping my title edits. Firefox also no longer recognizes my saved bookmark and wants to save the newly opened bookmark as a brand new entity, destroying carefully designed folder filing.

I thought the problem might've been a change in how the address bar and the search bar are configured--prior I'd not opted for a search bar and used the address bar only for writing specific URLs; I changed to the the split option, but this hasn't made a difference.

I have tens of thousands of bookmarks in carefully designed and constantly updated folders that no longer function as sole/master bookmarks. How to I recover this functionality.

NB: In a possibly related issue when I search the finder on my Mac it also no longer remembers date when last used for most older files.

Fortunately I have always backed up everything on my computer. My laptop crashed the other day and now I have no access it appears to my years of research kept on Mozilla bookmarks. Are they gone forever or is there someway that I can get access to them. In other words, are Mozilla bookmarks only specific to that one computer and once it crashes they are gone for ever unless I had done something preemptively?
